This is looking like a good year for horror flicks, per this handy guide that just came up on my Facebook newsfeed: http://www.blumhouse.com/2016/01/04/blumhouse-coms-10-most-anticipated-horror-movies-of-2016/. The most promising ones for me are: The Boy -- You can rarely go wrong with some Uncanny Valley shizz, and this mannequin certainly fills the bill. If that's not enough to interest you, there's also Lauren Cohen of The Walking Dead fame. Pride and Prejudice and Zombies -- On the one hand, I want to say, "Isn't the zombie fad about played out for this cycle?" Zombies were hugely en vogue after the initial George Romero popularizing of the genre in the 70s and 80s, and with the various rip-offs like the Return of the Living Dead series. Then there was a bit of a lull and then the resurgence in the last 10 or so years. On the other hand, I have to admit that I do love me some zombies (the original Romero Night of the Living Dead was one of my earliest forays into horror and got me hooked on the genre), as well as a good mash-up. Plus, this just looks like it could be a ripping good, campy, fun time. And check out these bomb-ass Regency-era ass-kicking wimmenz in the trailer (at about 1:00), and I love the quotes: "My daughters are trained for battle, sir...*not* for the kitchen." (Ha! Take *that* Doug Phillips (who is a tool) and Botkinettes! It would be cool to have this twist on their next be-costumed spectacle.) and "A woman must have a thorough knowledge of singing, dancing, and the art of war.": [Ooops. I didn't know it would be this big. That'swhatshesaid] The Witch -- If you've seen the trailer for this...'nuff said. Looks absolutely terrifying. Here's the trailer for your viewing pleasure if you haven't seen it or know nothing about this film. Word to the wise: Don't watch it right before you go to bed: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iQXmlf3Sefg (That creepy ass goat, though...) Green Room -- Sir Patrick Stewart? Say. No. More. The Conjuring 2 -- Part 1 had some genuinely creepy moments, so hopefully this one will follow suit. Admittedly, though, Part 1 did have its problems in, e.g., its treatment of witchcraft. Lights Out -- I've watched the short several times, and it is absolutely, skin-crawlingly terrifying. I'm really looking forward to this one. If you haven't caught it, here's a link to the short: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FUQhNGEu2KA This is another one you probably don't want to watch close to bedtime, if you are at all susceptible to this kind of thing. Happy horror!
