Source: http://spectrummagazine.org/article/201 ... s-quo-prev (not breaking the link -- Spectrum is a pretty snarky place and shouldn't mind) http://www.washingtonpost.com/local/soc ... story.html A bit of a personal rant/opinion follows. Women have served as pastors in many Adventist churches, especially in North America, for decades. Although the vote may appear to be one of semantics, as those of you on FJ know, defining and prescribing women's "roles" is central to the wider male headship movement. Something that may make those of us who consider ourselves progressives uncomfortable is the fact that much of the opposition to WO (women's ordination) comes from Africa. We don't want to be western-centric. However, the vote was not about forcing WO on areas where it would be a cultural anomaly; the vote was about allowing areas where women's contributions are culturally validated to choose to ordain qualified women. I know to many FJians -- including former SDAs, whose decision to leave I certainly respect -- it may seem ridiculous to be remaining connected to such a staunchly conservative denomination. (In previous days' meetings, church fundamental beliefs were reworded to more strongly identify with "traditional" marriage and literal, "recent" creation.) However, judging from the LGBT-affirming, feminist, theistic evolutionists on my SDA campus, there's still a chance for change. @mods, maybe I should have posted this in WW of Snark. Move it if you choose.

https://www.cnn.com/2019/06/27/us/alabama-pregnant-woman-shot-in-stomach-manslaughter-indictment-trnd/index.html This is horrifying. And I'm seriously afraid that it's only the beginning. My take is that she may have instigated the fight or prolonged it, but I don't think that she wanted to lose her child. I see this as the beginning of our rights being stripped away. I think that it was only a matter of time until a woman was charged, it would not matter what the circumstances were. I think the powers that be have been waiting and this situation is what they will use.

Shocked to see a Duggar friend come out publicly as pro choice and oppose the anti-choice bills in Alabama and Georgia. Krista shows that you can personally think abortion is wrong and still see it as a personal choice. Hopefully she sways some other people in her circles.

Although I’ve moved out of both the fundy sphere, and the conservative sphere, it seems like the only people making noise about NY’s abortion ruling are those who see it as “worse than Hitler,” and “killing 5-9 pound babies.” I briefly read a link someone uber-conservative shared; and it subtly acknowledged that this meant women whose lives were threatened or whose baby’s life was unviable now had the right to terminate. But beyond that, I just don’t know what it’s about? Who can explain? And also, id love links on it from non-right-to-life sites?

Blogger Turns the Table On Who Is At Fault For An Unwanted Pregnancy
ViolaSebastian posted a topic in Wide World of Snark
Gabrielle Blair, mother of six and a blogger, recently tweeted a remarkable thread that went viral. In it, she makes the case that men, as opposed to women, are at fault for unplanned pregnancies because of their irresponsible ejaculations and failure to use condoms, which are more readily accessible than birth control for women. This has obviously caused a lot of consternation with many men on Twitter. I mostly created this thread because it's amazing and everyone should see it. https://www.designmom.com/twitter-thread-abortion/- 12 replies

Are misogyny and sexism dead? Is feminism a no longer needed, out to date concept?
laPapessaGiovanna posted a topic in Quiver Full of Misogyny
Today is the International Women's Day. Looking for an image to go with my well wishes to all of us on my status I found this image. It states that the rising of women is the raising of us all. Lately I have often heard of how feminism is wrong because it privileges women. When I hear this I wonder how is it possible that people don't understand that granting women's rights is beneficial to the entire society. For example to deny women their right to choose on reproductive issues, defund public programs specifically created to help them with these issues and promote abstinence only sex ed have immediate consequences on single women and long term consequences on the society as a whole. How is it possible that some people just don't understand it? I also have often heard that, in comparison with the horrid life conditions of so many women around the World (FGM, child marriage, trafficking just to name a few), Western World women's concerns about casual sexism, paid maternity leave and the like are just ridiculous and they should stop whining. What do you think about this? Is there room to fight against both? Is sexism still a concern? Is it still a widely spread, hurtful and deeply ingrained habit?- 25 replies

This came across my Facebook feed yesterday courtesy of a writer I know (Sally Goldenbaum - she writes knitting cozies) https://www.facebook.com/events/2169332969958991/ Jan 21 in DC. I can't go but wanted to shared for those FJ-erites who might be interested and want to fight the good fight.

This seems pretty interesting to me, and relevant to what we discuss here. Like the author, it bothers me to see young women distancing themselves from feminism, so I hope this does help to shine light on abusive, misogynist practices that are happening right now. http://nytlive.nytimes.com/womenintheworld/2016/04/19/novelist-creates-a-dystopian-world-for-girls-inspired-by-homegrown-fundamentalism/

These are just fun, in a--sick, uber-misogynistic, double standard--kinda way. I actually saw the first one on the MGTOW Reddit page the other day, someone was ruing the day women were given a voice. http://www.boredpanda.com/suffrage-postcards-anti-women-propoganda-voting-rights/?utm_source=iosapp&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=iosapp

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/mack-major-masturbation-satan_us_570c47cae4b01422324a02ee Do we know this wackadoodle?! Are female reproductive parts and sex acts all this guy can think about? And for all you females out there: if you're masturbating and ending up on Satan's doorstep, then you're doing it wrong! (sarcasm of course, there is no wrong way of doing it). -

Guys like these give atheists a bad name. My rule is that people's religious beliefs should be respected as all they aren't harmful to or others The Amazing Atheist has long crossed that line. I don't know where to begin with this guy is that hypocritical anti-feminist antisocial-justice antisocial service anti-pretty much anything unless it suits his needs. He shares a lot in common with the other extremists here of course here's a pretty good rundown of his issues. http://rationalwiki.org/wiki/TheAmazingAtheist http://www.patheos.com/blogs/camelswithhammers/2012/02/the-amazing-rape-promoting-atheist/

http://nymag.com/thecut/2016/04/woman-told-to-stop-breast-feeding-in-courtroom.html# So apparently this judge doesn't know the law. It also seems to be a case where a male in power (the ability to change the custody agreement for her 8 year old) condescends to her and stops her from doing something that she is legally allowed to do. Is this the newest form of sexual harassment?

Question for fundie followers - yes, the Duggar family campaigns for conservative candidates, but are fundie women who are ATI/Gothard/formerly VF followers allowed to vote? I'm sure they must discuss their votes with their husbands, fathers, whatever.. but ultimately, are they allowed to enter the voting booth and cast ballots alone, or must they bring a headship or male relative with them into the booth for guidance and oversight? Just wanted to know and can't find anything on the 'net about this. I hope they are allowed to vote alone!

Not sure where to post this, but Cokie Roberts has a new children's book out honoring our Founding Mothers. I bet its much more accurate than anything in Palin or Limbaugh's attempts to rewrite our history. I plan on getting it for my great nephew's first birthday since I have a pact with his mother to give him collectible, quality children's books for Christmas and Birthdays. (Exposing our boys to women's accomplishments is as important as exposing our girls IMO). http://www.amazon.com/Founding-Mothers- ... ie+roberts (I didn't break link because it's Amazon. If that's not appropriate, will the mods please fix?)
