Authorities have confirmed a case of polio in Venezuela. The first after 30 years. There are other four reported cases not yet confirmed. They don't yet know if it's a wild strain or a mutated virus derived from vaccinated people that spread due to the country desperately deteriorating situation. The reported case is from April.
clueliss posted a topic in HealthI don't have children. I do, however, live in a 'college town.' And this school year, the Universtiy of Missouri has had an ongoing battle of Mumps. I'm going to guess that the anti-vaccine crowd had kids old enough to be in college now. That they're all crowded up in dorms and apartments around my city. And we have outbreaks in the late teen/twenty something age group of childhood diseases. Diseases that there are shots for. So now, after aid outbreak has occurred, they're going to give vaccines. http://www.komu.com/news/mumps-stricken-columbia-campus-plans-vaccination-clinic
http://deadstate.org/trial-begins-for-anti-vaxxer-parents-who-treated-dead-sons-meningitis-with-maple-syrup-and-olive-leaf-extract/ I couldnt find where this had been posted before. Apparently they treated their son's meningitis by giving their 19 month old various herbs and stuff for weeks until he stopped breathing, later dying in the hospital. They are charged with failing to provide necessities for life. Apparently they run some form of a nutritional supplement company called "truehope nutritional support." http://www.huffingtonpost.ca/2013/02/14/david-stephan-collet-stephan-child-death_n_2689257.html Um...
Does anyone know if the Duggars vaccinate? I know some hardcore fundies like ZuZu don't so I imagine it's not outside the realm of possibility, but they never struck me on the show as completely eschewing modern medicine. However, I think it was in the last season when they were visiting the Bateses, most of the Duggar kids came down with chickenpox and passed it to the Bates kids. The varicella vaccine has been around for awhile, so if the Duggars followed a routine childhood vaccine schedule, all of their kids from roughly Joseph or so on down should not have had chickenpox. Anyone have any insight or am I the only nerd who thinks about this? *Disclaimer: I'm not trying to start a vaccination debate. However you choose to handle that with yourself or your children is your business as far as I'm concerned. After all, no one here has a reality show.
