Season 2 starts in October! 1OZ0mu8Ey6A

A few people have expressed interest in discussing this awesome show. The Season One finale aired this past Sunday so anyone who isn't caught up should probably not read here yet. For the rest of us, let's not type anything in the first three sentences of our posts that would reveal info so that no spoilers will appear on the main page of current threads (there's probably a better name for that). Does that make sense? As this is just an introductory post, I won't discuss content here. But, in subsequent posts there WILL BE SPOILERS! I am so bummed the season is over and I read that, due to the complexity of the scripts and shooting, it may not return until 2018! I also read that Evan Rachel Wood said that the first season is/was basically a prequel to the 'real show' which will begin in season two. So let's talk about it!

New series starting on the History Channel on November 11th. I think it looks very interesting. Anyone planning on watching?

I'm serious, this is actually a show on the DIY network. For some inexplicable reason someone thought it would be a good idea to take Vanilla Ice (time to get over your 1980s personna) and send him to stay in an Amish community in Ohio. Dressed like a thug Vanilla shows up, tats, earings and all, to stay with a nice man who I seriously doubt is actually Amish. Ice claims he's there to share his love of construction... He's even kind enough to help out with the laundry. My favorite part is the beginning when he says that his "fans" know him as Vanilla Ice but he doubts anyone knows him around there. Its a mix of "for richer for poorer" meets "a simple life" and "this old house"... without electricity. If you have a hankering for a washed up self promoting musician (wearing "ice ice baby" t shits) and a vast array of very clean baseball hats be sure you dont miss this show.

So Betsy on Real Amish: LA keeps talking about having Demons in her head who talk to her. All the other cast members are worried about witchcraft, but I am thinking schizophrenia. Thoughts?

I was looking at NieNie's blog awhile ago and she did a list of things that she has recently liked and she talked about BYUtv webseries called Studio C, which she calls "clean SNL". I'm thinking about watching it to snark. Has anyone seen it? byutv.org/seethegood/category/Studio-C.aspx

I'm watching this right now on ID. If you get a chance to watch it, it's quite good, IMO. I haven't had a chance to watch too many episodes, but this one is a bit different than the other ones I've seen because it's basically the story of one woman and her trip through Scientology. She narrates the whole ep basically. Here is an article on the episode: tonyortega.org/2013/01/08/nancy-manys-life-in-scientology-dramatized-on-january-16-investigation-discovery-series/

I am watching a show about a murderer on Investigation Discovery tonight. (yeah, junk tv, and something I should not watch while living alone. I do have a line I draw, I can not watch anything about the Zodiac Killer, I think that the fact that I know several of the places where he found victims makes him too close to home.) Anyway, they are advertising a new show that premiers next Wednesday, and the first episode is about Scientology. I figured that some here would be interested in it. Here is a link to a video http://investigation.discovery.com/tv-s ... tology.htm And this is about the show in general. http://investigation.discovery.com/tv-s ... asions.htm

What good movies/tv shows/documentaries are out there that I should see? I feel like I am in a netflix rut. Feel free to throw in indie stuff, lesser known. I'll watch pretty much anything if it is good.

ATI Family featured on TV Show "World's Strictest Parents"
holierthanyou posted a topic in ATI/IBLP - Gothardism & Bill Gothard
The UK show "World's Strictest Parents" just featured an episode where two teens are sent to Fort Rock Family Camp (The same camp where the Duggar boys stayed and Jim Bob got Josiah shot in paintball) to stay with the ATI family that owns the camp. They literally used the word "defrauding" to talk about how some teen girls dress "these days". It was an episode worth watching, in my opinion. Be warned though- the show typically presents the "strict parents" as saviours for these "unruly" teens. -
On NBC at 10 pm est Thursday night Rock Center with Brian Williams is doing an episode on Mormons in America.

Daddy Arndt is now more hell bent on plowing forward with his so called media project (which would you rather watch)? In response to this article: http://global.christianpost.com/news/the-new-normal-gay-adoption-show-damaging-our-culture-says-one-million-moms-78690/ It's hard for me to believe what the Arndts so "proudly tout" as normal.

Did we know this? I stumbled across it by accident. It's on right now on the nrb channel - 378 on DirectTV. It's Fam Team (I thought that was just their blog name).

Did anybody see this show on National Geographic last night? This week's episode dealt with a 16-year-old girl who wants to convert to be Amish. It reminded me of the discussion we had here of people romanticizing the Amish. The girl reminded me of when I was young. When I was having trouble fitting in, I was convinced that moving to another country would be the answer to my problems. Surely, people would appreciate me there! It would be like an adventure. She said that in a community where everyone dresses the same, she wouldn't have as much pressure to try to fit in. At that point, I wanted to give her a hard shake. In communities where everyone is supposed to be the same, there is even MORE pressure to fit in. There are Ultra-Orthodox Jewish communities where you are declared a deviant for not using the same brand of baby sling as everyone else!

On Dr. Phil tomorrow: [quote name=from http://drphil.com/shows/]Pearl, a mother and wife-turned-model, says for six years she was trapped in an abusive, arranged marriage within an ultra-Orthodox Jewish community, and now — five years removed from the community and battling for custody of her four children — she's speaking out. Pearl says past attempts to leave her husband were looked down upon, and fear of retaliation and losing her children kept her quiet for years. Are her worst fears about to come true? Now under fire from her former community for her new lifestyle, which includes wearing pants and acting in a manner the community considers inappropriate, will she lose her children? While she says she hasn't abandoned her Orthodox beliefs, Pearl says she won't conform to what she describes as its "cult-like" behaviors. Her boyfriend, Shauly, who also left that community, says he was forced to leave a child behind. Hear Dr. Phil's message to Pearl and to the father of her children. Plus, Orthodox rabbi, best-selling author and spirituality expert Shmuley Boteach and parents within the Orthodox community weigh in.

ABC's 'What Would You Do' tackles Mormons and virginity
QAF_Rocks posted a topic in Mormons - Mormonism
Did anyone else watch the most recent episode of ABC's What Would You Do? One of the segments was about a young Mormon couple. The woman confesses that she is not a virgin, and the fiance calls off the wedding: RtfPw2dRRvo Drove me crazy! Especially the ending with all that talk about "forgiveness." The show almost seems to be endorsing the idea that pre-marital sex is something that needs to be forgiven. -
OWN - a channel I had deleted from my playlist due to stupidity. "Oprah's" Next Chapter. Its an hour long show with 2 families per the preview. 9pm ET.

http://news.yahoo.com/mythbusters-accid ... 59380.html I think they need to crap can the series already. Jamie and Adam feel like whatever chemistry they had is totally gone now and the show feels really boring. I wonder if a lawsuit will be the end of it?

I look at FG about once every 2 years, but happened to catch it tonite -- the Griffins visit Amish country! Did anybody else view? It was excellent. It may have been a rerun. I TiVo'ed it but haven't looked at the date. They poked lowkey fun at patriarchy, even called it that -"a patriarchal society" where women don't count, or words to that effect. Hail, FG!

And if anybody else here does I'd be happy to speculate. The thing's scripted out the wazoo, but it's still fun to watch, mostly because of Sophie, Nick and Shannon in that order. This recent thing with the separation is, well, hitting close to home for a lot of folks, myself included. It seems pretty reality based. Either that or Shannon's a much better actress than her resume gives credit for, and Gene does a danged good job of acting shaken to close to his core. I'm betting it all winds up with them becoming engaged with a huge diamond, if not getting married. And I'm hoping it does. Gene and I share a birthday! I'm so tickled by that. Because I've done a bit of late-in-life growing up, myself. I can't imagine that marrying the woman who's made his life liveable will do anything to the rockstar image he's perpetuated ... and that was some of the speculation, that his fans would consider him a sellout for making it legal. I'm hoping we get to see his father, in Israel. OK, that's all the thoughts I had, disjointed as they are. Wanna tawk? No big whoop. I'm here.
