  1. Cheryl is officially closing The Long Way to Go. Her mom is sick (which is really sad...honestly, losing a parent is very difficult, there's no two ways about it). Anyway, the blog will won't be online after early March. http://www.thelongwaytogo.com/so-long-to-the-long-way-to-go/
  2. As predicted, Cheryl's daughters are being married off in short order (money's an issue, you know). The latest daughter didn't even court the man she's marrying. They're so proud. I've heard that the best relationships are the ones where the couples just cut out all of that boring "getting to know you" shit and skip straight to marriage and children. Anyway, Haley may not know her soon to be husband well, but Cheryl and Terry sent him a helpful application so THEY could get to know him. Of course they didn't want to borrow Haley's silly little woman brain, when Terry (the cheating, dog killing husband) could lend his instead. An electronic application to marry their daughter. How convenient. Here are some of the questions: What are your views on child training, including corporal punishment? When does corporal discipline begin? What are your views on public swimming? What bothers you in the area of modesty? What is your definition of biblical modesty? Are pants ever acceptable? What do you think about name brand clothing and emblems? Do you plan to regulate your children’s clothing? How will you approach your wife or daughters if they are immodest? When was the last time you viewed pornography? Do you have a habit of masturbation? I swear, I can't even. Lord.have.mercy. What the fuck is wrong with these people??? http://www.thelongwaytogo.com/i-want-to-marry-your-daughter-what-happened-next/
  3. My mother grew up Baptist. Her family didn't attend church often, but the few times she did, she remembers that there was feet washing. It's a weird concept for me. I see where they get it, but still, the thought of someone (anyone) washing my feet makes me want to run for it. Anyway...while I "get" foot washing as it pertains to the church, I found myself particularly troubled by Cheryl Long's recent birthday post about her 17 year old daughter. Like most fundie moms, Cheryl makes the birthday post sound like she's advertising for a husband. Marriageable daughters aren't "witty and intelligent" or "introverts who love a good book", they're "servant hearts who love to cook and clean". Cheryl's family is on the "flat broke" side of finances, sometimes barely scraping together enough for groceries, so keeping daughters home well into their thirties (looking at you Steve Maxwell) is not an option. But back to the birthday post. Cheryl writes (daughter's name redacted by me): Now tell me this, why would a seventeen year old girl be washing her Daddy's feet? Am I just nuts, or does that seem grossly inappropriate and weird? If his feet need washing, let Terry take a shower and wash them himself. If he must have someone wash his feet, let Cheryl do it. Feel free to tell me if I'm crazy, but this was a real wtf to me... http://www.thelongwaytogo.com/feminine-friday-named-after-a-hero-of-the-faith/
