  1. Over 200 people were killed in Sri Lanka on Easter Sunday, in a series of bombings in churches and hotels. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.washingtonpost.com/amphtml/world/coordinated-explosions-rock-three-churches-and-two-hotels-in-sri-lanka-on-easter-sunday/2019/04/21/a09002a0-63f6-11e9-9ff2-abc984dc9eec_story.html The Washington Post article doesn't definitely say that the motive behind these bombs was to target Christians, but given that more than one of the targets was a Christian church and that they took place on the most important holy day in the Christian calendar, it seems probable. (It's such a dumb side note, but I want to shake some of "our" fundies here in the US who cry "persecution" when their barrista says, "Happy Holidays!" Bombs in your church are persecution. Shootings at your mosque are persecution. Shootings at your synagogue are persecution. Grow the fuck up, your dim dipshits.) I guess I'm going to check this story periodically today, in between the egg hunt and the cozy family meal we have planned. And keep the people of Sri Lanka in my heart all day.
  2. I hope these two racist fuck sticks go away for a long time.
  3. The fuck stick who mowed down protestors with his car in Charlottesville pled guilty I hope that fuck stick lives a very long time in a maximum security prison and never has another day of freedom as long as he lives.
  4. A couple pieces of shit are not walking the streets tonight
  5. White supremacist prison gangs are just as bad, or worse than MS-13. Rocket Launcher, pipe bombs, firearms seized in raids on white supremacist gangs WTF do you need a rocket launcher for?
  6. Mods, it's not like you've got plenty to worry about, but help me? Merge as needed. Come Sunday, intend to be one set of feet on the ground against domestic terrorism, at Freedom Plaza in DC. (The tiki-torch-terrorists are planning to be at Lafayette Square, near the WH.) INTEND to be near there--if you want "in" in spirit, send me a PM (likes don't cut it--not clear enough)--and I will very *happily* add your name/nick onto my protest signs. (One is gonna be "PROUD Social Justice Warrior!" red and blue letters on white, and I'm looking for suggestions for the reverse.)
  7. http://www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-42110223 At this point there are 235 reported dead. The attackers used a bomb and then shot at the people fleeing, including shooting at the ambulances trying to come help. The mosque is a Sufi mosque, and many other groups see Sufis as heretics.
  8. There was a terrorist attack in Minnesota today
  9. Just saw this on CNN. cnn.com/2017/03/26/opinions/white-supremacy-is-terrorism-ifill-opinion/index.html As goddamn well they should.

    Declared Terror incident in London

Ongoing terror incident in London! Knife attack and a car ran into a group of people! Its currently unfolding but has been officially declared a terror incident At least 1 dead and others seriously injured http://www.itv.com/news/story/2017-03-22/live-updates-woman-dead-and-police-officer-stabbed-in-terrorist-incident-outside-parliament/ comes after the terror threat was labelled high A lot of confusion going on mods if this is already being discussed please murge
  11. I searched and searched and didn't find threads on either of these stories. If my search skills stink, please merge me on over to the right spot. In Paris, French authorities have opened a terror investigation after a soldier shot a man wielding a machete near the Louvre museum in Paris. http://www.cnn.com/2017/02/03/europe/france-paris-louvre-incident/ Meanwhile, a man tossed an explosive device into a Pasadena Cheesecake Factory on Thursday evening, scattering terrified diners and sparking an police search for the perpetrator. I have eaten in that CF. I cannot imagine just having a meal and encountering a situation like this. http://www.cnn.com/2017/02/03/us/cheesecake-factory-pasadena-explosion-trnd/ I am a little surprised on the little coverage either situation is receiving. Perhaps because there wasn't massive carnage? Not being snarky - I think people need to know about both. I didn't see either story on my 6 o'clock news, I had to look online for it.
  12. About an hour ago, a truck plowed through a crowd at a Berlin Christmas market. While nothing is sure at this point, police are already calling this a terrorist attack. At least 9 people have been confirmed dead, 50+ injured. The attacker is still on the run. Here is some English-language info: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2016/12/19/lorry-ploughs-crowd-christmas-market-berlin/ As many of you know, I live in Berlin. I'm safe, but not yet really sure about all of my friends, in-laws and co-workers. I'm completely in shock.
  13. There has just been an attack in nice for the 14 juillet celebrations. A big white truck ran into the crowd and the driver(s) started shooting into the crowd. Also there is a hostage situation going on . I pray for france ...

    Terrorist attack in Dakha, Bangladesh

This is all over our news because some Italians were involved. The bakery where the attack took place is near our embassy in Dakha. Some gunmen attacked a bakery killed some people then there was an hostage situation resolved by commandos. During the commandos intervention some more people died. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2016/jul/01/dhaka-bangladesh-restaurant-attack-hostages
  15. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2016/jun/28/turkey-airport-explosions-ataturak-istanbul I don't even know what to say anymore. I really wouldn't want to think that there are more victims, more distraught families, that I need to check my cousin's bf is alive and well because he goes there twice a week. We can't go on like this.
  16. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/anne-graham-lotz-god-sends-terror_us_573a9844e4b08f96c183fc12 Oh. My. Seriously? God sends us terrorists to get us to worship him? and because we are peeing in the wrong bathrooms? By the way - she's also pandering a new book. thanks Anne, I needed a refresher on why I left organized religion.
  17. Chilling! new attacks in my country. Two large explosions(probably suicide attacks) at airport and three metro stations. Multiple injured and dead For more up to date info https://www.reddit.com/live/wmk50bsm9vt3
  18. http://www.theguardian.com/world/2016/mar/27/dozens-killed-in-blast-outside-lahore-park-pakistan Terrorism is world-wide. This is horrific too.

    Screw terrorists!

Sorry to bring this down to a level of seriousness, @Destiny, but I just have to say how the way things work in the world today are so messed up. That there are actually people who think that they get the upper hand by bringing down innocent people with such crazy and ridiculous actions! Never mind the recent drama here. The terror attacks in today in Belgium put that into perspective. Lives were lost. Families are ripped apart. Innocent lives. People who were doing nothing to provoke those who attacked them. People just conducting their every day lives. This happened in Paris in November. This happened in America in 2001. It happens in other places around the world that we don't hear so much about. Why? For revenge? Because you think you are going to get 72 virgins? Have you not seen Jeff Dunham's act to know that this ain't gonna happen!?!?! I just don't understand humanity anymore. Down vote me if you support these actions, but please give a positive rep vote to show your support for the victims of terror around the world, especially those suffering today in Belgium. Just sayin...
  20. Sorry mods, please merge if this has already been posted! Terror in Turkey: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/europe/turkey/12094350/Explosion-in-Istanbuls-central-square-causes-casualties.html And Indonesia: http://www.theguardian.com/world/live/2016/jan/14/multiple-explosions-gunshots-reported-in-jakarta-rolling-report Both, apparently due to IS. My thoughts are with the victims' families and friends.
  21. A Donald Trump supporter was arrested for making bombs that he was going to use to attack Muslims; This wasn't his first brush with the law either, he attracted attention earlier this month when he made threats against local Islamic leaders. It's not going to be Daesh or some other foreign enemy that will destroy us all, it'll be internal morons like this guy. I hope he's going to be a guest of Uncle Sam in one of said Uncle's fine penal institution for a while.
  22. A shooting at a Wisconsin mall resulted from a dispute among several young men. THank goodness it wasn't worse, but I could imagine the fear when shots got fired..One shopper reported they ran into the nearest store. When will people learn to handle things without violence? http://news.yahoo.com/gunfire-erupts-inside-wisconsin-mall-busy-shopping-day-230747638.html
  23. Shooting in San Bernardino, CA - possibly 3 shooters still at large - suspicious package left behind
  24. Here we are. Thanks @Curious for creating the possibility to have this much needed discussion. I hope we will manage to be civil. I want to say a thing that I didn't say in tha Paris thread nor in the specularium to avoid to worsen things, but I really have to say it. I am mourning for what happened in Paris and to all the people who died and were wounded in any way, but I would like to see the same mourning of our European Institutions also for the hundreds who died at sea and on our shores trying to escape from the hell that ISIS is. With this I don't want to diminish the tragedy that happened in Paris but to remember and mourn all the lives whose loss was cause by this craziness, this monstrosity. Because all lives matter. I don't think Islam has ANYTHING to do with ISIS and its actions. I believe that as happened many times in history a religion is an excuse to perpetrate the worst.
  25. Cannot believe this.... I saw commercials for it.... https://www.yahoo.com/movies/hollywood- ... 19917.html
