Thought I'd start a thread for all things Star Trek. I like Discovery and look forward to each new episode. That said I was thinking that if I was in charge of Discovery when it was first made I would have made time travel and section 31 verboten. As in no shows being done about either in any form. They're both crutches that the writers use to the show's detriment.

I just finished watching the first part of season 1 of Star Trek Discovery and I am in LOVE. It feels like no other Star Trek series before, it's dark and gritty and realistic. There will be no reset button or self contained episodes here. I've noticed three firsts so far - the word fuck, same sex kiss, and nudity. Whoever was holding them back is clearly out of the way now. A lot of people are hating on it because it's a different feel than other series without evaluating it on its own merits. I personally think it's absolutely amazing.

It has been nearly 50 years since the original Star Trek series began with William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy. There's been all sorts of incredible progress made since then, including this internet thing that they said would never catch on! But have we really come that far in 50 years? I mean, come on, no transporter beams? As long you you know the proper coordinates, this should not be a problem!!! Okay, transporting yourself into a cement wall because your coordinates were just a fraction off could be a problem, sure. Seventeen degrees south puts you where you want to be,

This seriously bums me out. I won't be able to see a ST movie again w/out being severly depressed. And does it seem silly to be sad when a celebrity passes? Perhaps to some, but when one means a lot to you (for whatever the reason), it's ok to feel your feelings. No judgement. RIP Leonard. You sure lived the LLAP philosophy.

Anyone seen it yet. Thoughts? Personally I thought it was better than the first JJA one. Tighter storyline, more honed characters. Benedict Cumberbatch was amazaballs. Very very minor spoiler:
