    Update on Snake Salvation preacher

If you will recall, Andrew Hamblin was last mentioned here (freejinger.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=203&t=22395), where it was reported he had left his pregnant wife, mother of his 6 children, and abandoned his church. I updated it the other day but it's in the "other religions" forum that no one will see. There's some drama going down on the snake salvation page on facebook (facebook.com/snakesalvation?fref=nf)that I am quite enjoying. I have been following it for about a week. First, it has come out that Andrew left his wife for another woman, this chick named Taylor who he really...enjoyed laying hands on: That guy next to her is her husband! Here is a better pic. And apparently Taylor will be addressing the page herself any day now. Allegedly she is also married and has 2 other kids with 2 other men OH AND DID I MENTION SHE IS PREGNANT WITH ANDREW'S CHILD? Here is HER facebook: facebook.com/taylorelaine28?fref=ufi She commented on the FB page that Elizabeth was cheating on Andrew first (where do these people find the time?) and that she (Liz) has her own boyfriend (Jeremy) and that her baby (a boy btw) might not be Andrew's. So the topix board of La Follette, TN (topix.com/forum/city/la-follette-tn)(same page where we read about Whitney Bates btw) has several threads about them. I analyzed them and the facebooks for you which was not easy because these people are not really literate. Andrew is drinking and allegedly doing drugs. He took their only car and does not give his wife any money. In other news, he has been arrested a couple times for driving without a license, registration, or insurance. He does not work. His mistress says he sees his kids all the time. Wife Elizabeth cut her hair and stated on FB she was no longer a christian. But stated she still believes in snake handling. I think she feels like she is not a christian because she is in sin, not because she does not believe. She even cussed (big deal for these holiness types) (and she cussed since this Snake Salvation page is pretty obsessed with her, which would upset me, too). She has a lot of local friends defending her on various pages. She posted herself that she is going back to school and has a job at "Families First" which is a government social program. She writes that she does not believe in birth control and might have more kids one day if she meets someone. So I am taking it that she is just no longer Pentecostal at all because they cannot get remarried. She states she does not go to church or pray. Apparently Andrew wrote a note to Liz the other day where he writes he loves her still, and she should go be happy. Then he went back to his mistress. Or to pretend to kill himself. It's kind of confusing. I think she called the police and I do not know the status of Andrew at this moment. He left her this letter the other day in her bed after sleeping with her. So much drama. Those were posted in the thread on the SS FB page by a relative of hers. And they ARE facebook FRIENDS so I am assuming it is real. Sorry this is kind of jumbled. I had to have lots of windows open. The topix site freezes a lot. The "posts to the page" on the snake salvation page has a thread where Taylor comments. So now we know why Andrew and his wife split up. The church was taken over by another Pastor The other Pastor from the show, Jamie Coots, is still dead after being bitten by a snake a while back. In case you could not guess, there will be no season 2.
  2. starcasm.net/archives/276612 His facebook has been deleted and her facebook is still up, with lots of pictures of him and her, and well wishes from her friends. I cannot imagine a holiness pentecostal preacher divorcing his wife (they are super against divorce and remarriage) unless he had a major breakdown/crisis of faith/life change.
  3. Cody, son of the late Jamie Coots, took over as pastor following the death of his father. Normal for this religious sect. The transference of Pastoral authority from one male in the family to the other. www.tennessean.com/story/news/2014/05/2 ... e/9647005/ Warning: If religious chanting or praying in tongues isn't your cup of tea, mute the video above the article before reading.
  4. http://www.wate.com/story/24737348/kent ... snake-bite Kentucky snake handling preacher, reality TV star dead from snake bite Posted: Feb 16, 2014 5:12 AM CST MIDDLESBORO, KY (WATE) - Jamie Coots, a preacher known for snake handling, as well as being the focus of a reality TV show, died Saturday after being bitten by a snake. According to the Middlesboro Police Department, emergency crews responded to reports of a possible snakebite victim at a church on Evans Drive around 8:30 p.m., but say the victim had already left the scene by the time they arrived. Police say they found Coots at his home with an apparent snakebite to his hand. Officials say EMS responders explained the dangers of not treating the wound, but that Coots still refused to be transferred. Police and EMS returned to the scene an hour later to find Coots dead. Coots was the pastor of Full Gospel Tabernacle in Jesus Name church in Middlesboro. He is also the subject of the National Geographic Channel series "Snake Salvation".
  5. Andrew Hamblin (the young one, like 22, with a bunch of kids) had declined to plead out and was facing trial. wate.com/story/24397536/grand-jury-declines-to-indict-campbell-county-preacher-in-snake-handling-case
  6. http://www.tennessean.com/article/20131 ... 19207097=1 TWRA cites snake-handling East TN pastor Andrew Hamblin, seizes snakes An East Tennessee pastor who handles snakes as part of his faith has been cited by TWRA, and his venomous snakes have been confiscated. According to TWRA's Matt Cameron, wildlife officers went to Andrew Hamblin's home in LaFollette Thursday morning and asked him if he had any venomous snakes. Hamblin said he did, and they were at an undisclosed location. When the officers asked him if the snakes were at his church, the Tabernacle Church of God, he said yes. Hamblin took the officers to the church where they seized 50 of the reptiles. Hamblin was cited with possession of class I wildlife (wildlife inherently dangerous to humans). He has a court date scheduled for November 14 at 9 am in Campbell County. The snakes will be held at the Knoxville Zoo as evidence. Hamblin appeared on the National Geographic reality show "Snake Salvation."

    Snake salvation on NG

Holy snakes! This series is fascinating. On the episode i started on, Cody, the young preacher with a wife and toddler, lies to his wife that they come before his snake handling. Lovely. Then he goes off on a snake hunt and gets bitten twice by a cottonmouth and refuses to seek medical help. ( of course he made it through, or it might not have made it on TV...) I am interested to see more of this show. Personally, I think these folks are whackadoodles, but I feel that way about most fundamentalists.

    Snake Handlers also Fundie?

So I was flipping through a photo show of snake handlers in Tennessee and it was following a Pastor by the name of Andrew Hamblin. On one shot it mentions how this 21-year-old is married and has FOUR children and that they were praying for him because he'd lost his grocery store job. That rang a few bells, so I looked him up. Not a lot on his Facebook page, but his wife's had this to say: It just made me wonder... Anyone know more about these folks, or do you think it's just the demonstrated lack of education? Also wonder if the snake handling/poison drinking/etc. is primarily due to the lack of good education...
  9. New reality show on Nat Geo. Not breaking the link because it's to a newspaper: http://www.tennessean.com/article/20130 ... 15823769=1 There's a video when you click on the link. Text only here:
  10. holiness-snake-handlers.webs.com/ I have never been to a snake handling church but I want to attend. For people who are curious, this is a website for snake handlers. I haven't looked through the entire site but some of you expressed interest. Here are some of their videos holiness-snake-handlers.webs.com/
  11. I always thought this is crazy but I guess he proved is faith was weaker then the snakes faith. http://www.washingtonpost.com/lifestyle ... story.html Mack Wolford, a flamboyant Pentecostal pastor from West Virginia whose serpent-handling talents were profiled last November in The Washington Post Magazine , hoped the outdoor service he had planned for Sunday at an isolated state park would be a “homecoming like the old days,†full of folks speaking in tongues, handling snakes and having a “great time.†But it was not the sort of homecoming he foresaw. Instead, Wolford, who turned 44 the previous day, was bitten by a rattlesnake he owned for years. He died late Sunday.
