  1. A Michigan biology teacher got in a bit of trouble. I know humans are primates but I would have played it safe and not included any pictures of humans of any race or culture on such an assignment, period. There's just too much racial and cultural baggage to risk it, and I think no matter what specific racial type of human (Caucasian, African, Asian, Native American, Aboriginal, etc) it would have been racially insensitive at best to include it on the worksheet. I think the teacher would have been OK if they had not included an image of President Obama's or any other human for that matter on the worksheet. If it was me I would have built my own worksheet with the pictures of the other primates. I would have either had a true/false question asking students if humans are primates or put a statement on saying that students should note that humans are also primates.

    This is not defending "Karen" behavior in the least, but I feel more and more that this "Karen" stuff has at least some misogyny thrown in. Case in point; I just read a magazine article online by a male author regarding the couple who came out of their mansion to point guns at peaceful protesters in their neighborhood. That couple is awful and deserved to be called out, but the author spent about 85% of the article talking about the female partner, and other "Karens". What he wrote about the male partner almost felt like an afterthought. Something along the lines of, oh and her husband is awful too. In case you've forgotten, both partners held a weapon and both pointed their weapons toward the protesters. The woman's weapon was a pistol (bad enough), but the guy's was a freakin' automatic weapon! He mentioned the guy's polo shirt, but spent more time talking about the woman's stripped shirt and her capri pants (which he said are required apparel of Karens everywhere). I get the feeling from the gist of these articles and memes is that most racist people are white, hysterical, screaming, usually middle aged, females. We all know that's hardly the full reality. It's not even the full reality in this particular instance.
  4. Abby Johnson, anti-abortion grifter and inspiration for the Duggars' favorite movie, is at it again: Short version: one of her adopted sons is biracial, and she knows she's going to have to have a conversation with him about police, but "that doesn't make me angry!" Because she believes that black men actually are more likely to be criminals and any cop who engages in profiling is just being "smart." She predicts that her biracial son is going to look "intimidating" while her white sons are going to look "nerdy" and nonthreatening, as if that's just an objective distinction. She goes on to explain that the REAL problem is that Black men are deadbeat dads ?and that apparently the Marxists on the left are trying to keep them from being good fathers, in the name of relativism, or something. Bog-standard white Republican racism, really, if it weren't for the fact that she's supposed to be raising one of the Black men she seems to despise so much. Can you fucking imagine what that kid is going to grow up hearing? Oh my god. Simcha Fisher posted a response: https://www.simchafisher.com/2020/06/25/abby-johnson-police-will-racially-profile-my-biracial-son-thats-smart/ Just another example of "pro-life" concern that ends at birth. Oh, and also, she looks like a damned clown in that makeup.

  6. More white supremacist bullshit fuck stickery in the news
  7. Then this happened last weekend If this happened to my church they would not have been able to air any interviews with me because I'd be using a lot stronger language than cowards to describe these people.
  8. A man thought it'd be a great idea to mess with an Arby's sign then post it on Facebook. Obviously he never read this piece of free legal advise;
  9. "Strip all the other rationales away from this draconian immigration policy. This is at the core: White extinction anxiety, white displacement anxiety, white minority anxiety." https://www.nytimes.com/2018/06/24/opinion/america-white-extinction.html?smid=fb-nytimes&smtyp=cur
  10. http://www.foxnews.com/food-drink/2018/07/11/papa-johns-founder-john-schnatter-resigns-as-chairman-over-n-word-controversy.html He has already faced other issues over the National Anthem... when do (very public) company executives realize that what they think doesn't mean it needs to leave their mouths?!
  11. The American Vision is Gary DeMar's far-right "ministry," which works mostly as a publishing house for folks like Doug Wilson and Gary North. The group has called for the execution of abortion providers and they're categorized as an anti-gay hate group by the SPLC. So they're pretty "out there" by most standards, but they're very much part of the homeschooling/QF universe. DeMar is facebook friends with most of the VF notables, and in searching to see if we'd discussed him on FJ I learned that the cheery Olivia of Fresh Modesty even goes to his church. Anyway, they've been promoting a new book by Joel McDurmon which criticizes conservative christianity for being complicit with slavery and racism in America. Honestly, it sounds like it could be a decent book, considering who's publishing it. But judging by the response on their facebook page and in the comments on their blog, you'd think they declared that the Virgin Mary was a whore or something. "Cultural Marxism," "racism is over," "don't you know that abortion is the REAL slavery," etc. A quick google of McDurmon's name brings up a lot of blog posts by various angry theonomists declaring him a liberal traitor. He quotes some of the reactions here: https://americanvision.org/15331/didnt-end-150-years-ago-thats/ Wild that there are still circles where an argument like his is controversial. If someone who takes the brave stance of "slavery was actually bad" is a traitor to your movement, well, I guess we now know what you're really all about. It's sort of a hobby-horse of mine, how easy it is to find weapons-grade racism just below the surface of all these pretty home-and-hearth ideologies.
  12. A high school senior has been cut off by her parents, because she is dating a black guy. They are refusing to pay for her college and have taken away her car. There's no mention of colleges she's already applied to, or any scholarships she could be receiving. So she started a GoFundMe page, which has raised over 30K (!) in just three days, to be used for her tuition. https://www.gofundme.com/put-allie-in-college-fight-racism http://heavy.com/news/2017/01/allie-dowdle-go-fund-me-page-racism-dad-bill/ (stay away from the comments) FWIW, I went to a private college. I had two scholarships, three loans, and had between one and three jobs during my college years.
  13. Jon Girodes wants your vote! A woman claims she gave Girodes a refundable deposit when she wanted to rent an apartment he owns. She backed out of the deal and claims he kept her $750: Girodes doesn't have the support of the Republican party for his run. http://www.nbcnewyork.com/news/local/Senate-Candidate-State-Jon-Girodes-New-York-Republican-Harlem-Fried-Chicken-Watermelon-Racist-396668921.html If you follow the link, you can watch a video of this story. The reporter interviews Harlem residents and asks them what they think about Girode's plans to donate KFC, watermelon, and Kool-Aid to the community. One man says in response, "And the community will donate various foots in his ass!".
  14. This is horrible. Warning for disturbing violence and hateful language at the link. It seems beyond ridiculous that this happened in 2011. We are not over or past racism. I wonder if these teenagers' parents modeled racism, or tolerated it, or if someone else in their lives inclined them towards it. It seems like it had to come from somewhere, I don't know. I feel so terrible for the victim's family. The murder was filmed by a security camera. http://edition.cnn.com/2011/CRIME/08/06 ... index.html
