  1. This group is a deep, dark rabbit hole. Now that we have a forum specifically for it I'd like to get it all in one place. This article focuses on the theft of the gold, but it touches on some of the extremely disturbing practices like incest as policy, and racketeering. http://www.rollingstone.com/culture/news/inside-the-order-one-mormon-cults-secret-empire-20110615?page=5 Nearly every member should have the last name of Kingston. They make up fake last names to hide the incest from the government. The Principle Tumblr page has loads of info. This one talks about the most recent news that one woman is being charged for her daughter's death in a car crash. The child was not restrained in the vehicle on orders from the leader to save money. http://politicsrusprinciple.tumblr.com/post/144321136058/please-read-please-read-please-read-top There's soooo much more. This is the Kingston Clan tag on the Tumblr page. http://politicsrusprinciple.tumblr.com/tagged/Kingston-Clan
  2. Some of Winston Blackmore's family presented at a symposium in Salt Lake City. Since the FLDS and their break-offs are some of my pet fundie topics, I found the article interesting - but the comments are often even more so. http://www.sltrib.com/home/4165574-155/polygamists-describe-how-to-live-in Blackmore's more sophisticated than the FLDS, but I'm not convinced the lifestyle is any healthier.
  3. TLC's newest train wreck! Dating+ Polygamy. What could possibly go wrong? Well those two are clinging to the guy like burrs! The other one will have to be behind him on the couch. The Snowdens...yeahhhh
  4. https://www.blackhillsfox.com/content/news/Company-tied-to-polygamous-sect-leader-buys-Minnesota-land-504556981.html I was disappointed this summer, I never had a chance to go drive out towards the compound, but my trip was short and hectic as I was in the Hills for a memorial. Do we know of any FLDS groups in MN already? Or will there be a eastern migration for the Custer group? Sorry if this double posts, my phone has a gremlin today
  5. Channel 4 have a new docu-series featuring people who live in the Rockland Ranch community in Utah. This episode is about Enoch Foster and his wives Katrina and Lilian, and their 16 children. The family is courting a potential new wife, Lydia. http://www.channel4.com/programmes/three-wives-one-husband
  6. megans-polyblog.blogspot.com/ I've been following this blog for about 2 years (give or take) and find myself mesmerized. I shall do my best to summarize. Megan was raised in a very tumultuous home. Her father was a drug addict, meth to be specific among other drugs, and her mother didn't exactly protect her from exposure. Her father was arrested and incarcerated and eventually he died while incarcerated. In the meantime her mother started bringing boyfriends home and living it up as if she didn't have (at least) 2 children to take care of. Just recently Megan wrote that her father had raped her while high on meth when she was 16. I think this event led her to seek out a man who would protect her and also be like a father figure to her. Megan hungered for stability, love and someplace to call home. She began researching the poly lifestyle, specifically, polygyny. She "met" a poly family online and eventually went to spend a week with them. They "love bombed" her and she fell for it, hook, line and sinker. The family was one man who was legally married to one wife and "spiritually" married to the second. I believe the man is in his late 30's, early 40's but he could be older. He has 2-3 children by his first wife (one of whom just married at age 17 to another person from their "church") and i believe 2 children by the second wife. At the time of meeting, Megan was barely 18 and very naive about how cults work. I don't believe she knew this family for more than a few months before "marrying" the man, whom she refers to as "Steve." One positive note is that she went to Culinary school and got a chef's degree, so she does have a skill set if she ever decides to make a break for it. In the meantime she has given birth to g/g twins and very recently, a son. There also was a change in the family dynamic when the 1st wife decided she could no longer live the poly lifestyle. Incidentally this change occurred when Steve took a 4th wife (which he originally said he would not do because more than 3 is...greedy...or something.) The 4th wife has actually been married to another poly couple but there was a falling out and she left...and then stayed at Steve's house "while she healed from the break up." Um yeah...didn't see that coming a mile away, didja? So even though another wife was added they are still at 3 wives and 1 husband. When the first wife was at home there were strict rules about wearing long skirts and other such fundy-ness. Now that she has left the building they will occasionally wear jeans and shorts. Let's not forget that they live on a sizable farm with no nearby neighbors to gaze longingly upon their fertile flesh. She spooks easily and has shut down her blog twice when the questions became pointed in the comment section. She was also busted putting up stolen u/s pics from the interwebz and passing them off as her twin pregnancy. So some people (myself included)wonder if any of this is true or just some elaborate hoax run by a bored housewife. They are definitely quiverful in their "church" and do not use birth control of any kind. Megan has no secondary education outside of high school and no real support system among her biological family. It's quite sad, really. I think she will regret her choices in about 10 more years and basically be tied to a life which she can find no escape. Meanwhile her "husband" seems to be interested in finding pretty, young brides so he can fill his quiver. It's a trainwreck....truly.
  7. I stumbled on a blog that I couldn’t stop reading and I want to discuss it - http://megans-polyblog.blogspot.com I’m new here and can’t figure out where that discussion would go?

    Three Wives, One Husband

... welp ... as beautiful as that episode was, it's followed by the newest collection of wackadoodles. Seriously, where does TLC find these oddballs?? [Three Wives, One Husband] At first glance they appear to be a raggedy ass bunch living a hardscrabble existence. The wives are attractive and well spoken and seem loving. Enoch the patriarch is ... interesting... looks a little inbred IMHO. Oops-- mods, feel free to move this. (Probably ought to be its own thread. Sorry.) Double whoops: apparently more than one family unit is covered. Smh.
  9. I just discovered the "Survivors Podcast(https://www.survivorspodcast.com/podcast-episodes/)." It is a really well done show that interviews survivors of polygamy. It mostly focuses on the Kingston Clan but they have interviewed some people who have left the FLDS. As well as, a current 16 year old young lady who is a member of the Centennial Park group. According to Young Barlow, Rulon Jeffs was murdered with clay used to harden pipes. I highly recommend listening to the episode.
  10. I've been really enjoying the Year of Polygamy podcast recently and highly recommend it to anyone interested in the subject. The woman who does it has done some great interviews lately, including a recent one with a current FLDS member. I'd be really curious to see what you all think of that one in particular, because there were definitely moments that annoyed me because it seemed to glorify the FLDS.
  11. Fundamentalist Mormons were my first group that got me interested. I have studied A LOT about FLDS/bountiful/Kingston etc. However I have never heard of the Knights of the Crystal Blade?!? These girls were ages 4-8 seriously?!!?!?! Be prepared mentally this is a huge rabbit hole, https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/crime/self-styled-utah-prophet-gets-additional-15-year-prison-term/ar-AAzhXwd
  12. I am THRILLED! *doing a happy dance* http://www.sltrib.com/news/3571913-155/polygamous-church-leaders-indicted-arrested-for
  13. https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2017/nov/08/its-a-revolution-polygamist-sect-loses-power-over-utah-town-for-first-time The backlash against the FLDS is growing.
  14. Orson William Black Jr. was captured yesterday in the state of Chiuahua, Mexico, and is being held pending investigation of the September murder of two of his sons and a third young man from their small community. Four of his wives and about 20 other undocumented Americans are also being detained. Black, who was raised in the FLDS, went off the rails (if the FLDS can be considered 'on the rails') and created his own little culty offshoot in the 80s/90s. He fled the United States 15 years ago after being charged with multiple felony counts of sexual conduct with a minor precipitated by his 'marriage' to two VERY underage girls, Beth and Roberta Stubbs, who were 12 and 13 year old sisters. He was featured on America's Most Wanted in 2003. He is connected in some way to most FLDS families. His legal wife was/is a Barlow, he married Stubbs and Pledger girls, and I believe his mother was a Wyler, so he's related to the Chatwins as well. His younger sister, Shirley Karma Black, was one of Winston Blackmore's wives who has since left him (though she was not underage at the time of that marriage, as has sometimes been reported). There is lots more info out there, but I think this is the best of the articles covering recent developments. http://www.sltrib.com/news/polygamy/2017/11/06/mexico-detains-polygamist-with-utah-connections-his-4-wives-in-murder-investigation/
  15. We made it through Season 7! So did Kody! Rumor has it he thinks another wife would be a good idea?! Surely this will not end well. And then, there's a catfish. Previous thread: And now, all the Brown family drama continues here. Enjoy!

    Brother Husbands

... and the TLC'S Wackadoodle Family Lineup continues... Brother Husbands???? Can't wait to hear what church they're affiliated with. Even my dog is giving me side-eye.
  17. First - I am so excited this forum popped up just as I finished Carolyn jessop' Escape and flora jessop's church of lies (thanks to the posters for the excellent recommendations from the babyland thread, btw!) carolyns daughter Betty returns to the flds when she turns 18 at the end of the book - and i found this incredibly disturbing. does anyone know what ended up happening to her? I know from threads here and Internet searching that she was in the media a lot in 2008, claiming she was happy (but unmarried and basically working as a servant at a construction site). What happened after her father was excommunicated? Does anyone know if she ever got married? The only recent info I could find that mentioned her was from Carolyn jessop's weddingknot site, where she was listed as "unable to attend" the 2015 wedding, which I assume means she is still in the flds. (https://www.theknot.com/us/brian-moroney-and-carolyn-jessop-apr-2015 - awesome to see that the other kids are all out of the flds and doing well, though!) wondering if anyone here is better at Google-fu than I am and has any other update on Betty. :/
  18. I think most Fjers know that polygamous Mormon sects are hotbed of incest, since many of these communities were founded by a handful of families who have intermarried over the past century or so, but this article really shows the human impact of these practices: https://broadly.vice.com/en_us/article/tiny-tombstones-inside-the-flds-graveyard-for-babies-born-from-incest?utm_source=broadlyfbusads It's a very long article, but worth your time, because it shows how the FLDS victimizes people even in utero by passing on genes that are very often incompatible with life, yet many FLDS members think their bloodlines are super special and "pure." You see the same dynamic going on with the Kingston clan, which is even more closed and incestuous, as if such a thing can be imagined.
  19. Season 7 starts soon. Will Meri admit to the error of her ways? Will Robyn continue to rule the roost? Will Kody get a new hairstyle? Part 2 can be found here:
  20. http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/features/6774196/polygamous-ohio-pastor-thom-miller-marries-teen-second-wife-and-gets-her-pregnant.html http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3339219/I-try-not-jealous-Pastor-60-marries-pregnant-girlfriend-19-blessing-wife-44-women-live-different-wings-Ohio-home.html Alrighty then. And she is pregnant. They are not Mormon, just Christian. Here is a profile piece that was done in 2003: http://www.sptimes.com/2003/07/31/Northpinellas/From_death_row__a_mes.shtml 12 children!! Julia? Well that marriage didn't last. Found another article that says he runs a large food pantry, so that's nice. It looks like he runs a prison ministry and that is a prison church in the video. 21. http://www.sltrib.com/home/3862919-155/former-child-bride-onetime-polygamous-trust Former child bride Elissa Wall, who was forced to marry her 19-year-old cousin when she was just 14, has settled for $2.75m in the $40m lawsuit she brought against the FLDS trust. Life changing for her; still not sure it's received the publicity it deserved. Not sure how I feel about this outcome. Regardless, I'm glad Elissa is healthy and happy and doesn't have children from that marriage to further complicate things. ETA: I would love to see us have a Quiver Full of Fundamentalist Mormons sub forum. There is so much to talk about, but it does get rather lost in everything else when anything comes up here.
  22. I figured I would start a polygamy thread with a few random polygamy updates, instead of trying to slot them into old sister wives or polygamy USA threads where they don't belong. I was going to call it "Polygamy Roundup" but I couldn't, as polygamists are actually rounded up at times and that would be confusing. First, the blog politicsrusprinciple.tumblr.com/ is the best polygamy news resource. From there I have learned that Lifetime is making a movie about Warren Jeffs, starring Scandal actor Tony Goldwyn. vulture.com/2014/03/scandal-tony-goldwyn-warren-jeffs.html which comes out June 28. Also, it was reported that Rose Marie Cawley, Polygamy USA fan favorite (facebook.com/rosemarie.cawley), is now married, as is Connie from Breaking the Faith. I think Connie married her boyfriend from the TV show but I don't know who Rose Marie married. Remember, she went to the elders to let them pick a husband for her. I suppose I could go through her FB friends list and maybe someone has a picture, but I doubt it as they are a secretive bunch. There is a youtube channel run by ex FLDS that is a wealth of information youtube.com/user/FLDSProductions which has polygamy hair tutorials (awesome!) and clips of old FLDS musical productions. For example, the town put on The Sound of Music. They also have FLDS propaganda videos. In other polygamy news, Kenya just legalized polygamy (being gay is still illegal) and a lesbian married triad is expecting a baby nydailynews.com/news/national/married-lesbian-trio-massachusetts-expecting-child-article-1.1765862 There was also a landmark FLDS child custody case where a member was excommunicated, his wives and children taken away, and he went to court and won custody thespectrum.com/article/20140426/NEWS01/304260022/Domestic-challenges-continue-FLDS-exile-who-won-landmark-child-custody-case and Texas has officially seized the Yearning for Zion Ranch fox13now.com/2014/04/17/texas-to-seize-flds-ranch/
  23. The ID channel has a three episode series called "The Wives Did It." The first episode was Friday about the murder of Rulon Allred. Episodes air Fridays at 10pm https://corporate.discovery.com/discovery-newsroom/polygamy-meets-murder-ids-new-series-the-wives-did-it-proves-that-more-isnt-always-merrier/
  24. I've studied a lot of cults and thought I'd heard it all, but I think Roch Thériault's cult may be the worst I've heard: TRIGGER WARNING!!! http://politicsrusprinciple.tumblr.com/tagged/Roch-Th%C3%A9riault (scroll down for the long post with the main story) I'm not going to do a summary, because I don't even know where to begin or how to explain it. All I can say is that Thériault sounds like a cross between David Koresh, Warren Jeffs, and Jeffrey Dahmer. Given that, I want to warn you that this story is extremely graphic and contains descriptions of abuse that are almost beyond comprehension. But this story shows why we can't turn a blind eye to sects like these that basically function as personal fiefdoms for psychopaths.
