mango_fandango posted a blog entry in Fun Fun Fundies: Sims EditionSo I've been absent for a while!! Life got in the way, really, and I didn't play The Sims for ages. I'll be posting on this blog more often, but there'll be some changes. Namely, I think I'll be abandoning the Taylor family. It was a mistake making them Fairies - Joey and Melissa were becoming grandparents whilst still Young Adults (due to YA and A lifespans being 105 days instead of 21) and it just wasn't particularly realistic. So I think I'll start another 'fundie' family, but as normal Sims. Plus, they'd often achieve their Lifetime Wishes at a young age, and you can't choose another one like you can in Sims 4. I am also (finally) planning to install some mods in the future, mainly household extension ones, and perhaps a couple of bits of custom content eg modest skirts. I don't know yet if I'll keep up with the Sims 4 Smith family. Anyway, I've started a new, non-fundie family in Sims 4, and I'll post about them. Emily and Vincent Powell live in San Myshuno. Because I didn't play for about six months, I had a load of updates to install (OK, Origin did them automatically). One new feature is that you can take a personality quiz in CAS when you're creating a new Sim, where you get asked questions and your Sim's traits and Lifetime Aspiration get automatically chosen depending on your answers. For Emily, this worked out well. She started off at Level 3 in the Entertainer Career, and started off with points in the Logic, Parenting, Violin and Guitar skills. I didn't get such great results with Vincent, so I decided to manually choose his traits and aspiration. He wants to be a top chef (which is probably my most frequently chosen aspiration, as the bonus trait you get upon completion means that food never spoils, which is useful). Here's Emily! I use this dress quite a lot. I've since changed it. Moving into their apartment. Each apartment gets assigned various lot traits, which can encompass a wide range of effects (eg there are many skill-boosting ones, one that prompts ghosts to appear at a certain time every night, one that results in a higher incidence of twins amongst other examples). This apartment's traits are Gnomes (which results in broken appliances getting fixed), and Penny Pixies, where your Sim can get random small amounts of money occasionally. I SO wish this happened IRL! It was raining, and Vincent decided to go and mop up a puddle outside. Yeah, I wouldn't bother... Although Vincent is the main chef, Emily reckoned it'd be useful to develop the Cooking skill too. Emily reading, with a glass of water. Emily frequently goes to get herself a glass of water autonomously. I've never had that happen so often with my Sims, I swear. Emily decided to get herself some samosas at the neighbourhood market. Sadly, she can't really handle the heat yet. She literally breathed fire. Vincent decided to cook some fish tacos. Apparently it smelt so good that neighbour Salim Benali wanted some. They bought a bee box. One option is to "bond with bees". Yeah, think I'll pass on that one... Festivals occur every so often in San Myshuno. Emily decided to go to Geek Con and dress up as Princess Leia. There are three different types of cooking skill in Sims 4: Cooking, Gourmet Cooking and Baking. Here, Vincent's made some Vegetable Dumplings and some Breadsticks. Emily wants to become a great parent, so it was time for some good old WooHoo. It ended well! (They also get a good WooHoo moodlet, which is awesome). Vincent got some curry one evening. Whenever you eat a recipe from a market stall, you can then recreate it at home, which is useful when you're a wannabe chef. Emily peed herself whilst pregnant, and decided to hide from everyone in her bed. Poor Emily. Their first child was a boy, little Casper, who's recently become a toddler. He's such a cute little dude!!
I haven't been playing my fundie families much lately. I thought I'd do a general overview post on the Eastley family. Saskia Eastley (nee Pinkerton-Jones) started off as a Young Adult at University of Sapphire Springs. I decided to make a really posh dorm, each room having an ensuite, and full of expensive furniture, just for the lolz. Saskia moved in with Jessica Parker-Smythe and Louisa d'Armigny. Saskia's the redhead, Jessica's the blonde and Louisa is in all-black. Jessica and Louisa had specific career-related Lifetime Wants, and Saskia didn't (she wants to reach her Golden Anniversary I believe), and the Political Science degree fit with both Louisa and Jessica, so I got them all to do the same degree. The bonus was that they always had the same classes (leaving the lot at the same time) and the same skill requirement for each semester. When they're at university, Sims don't automatically change into their Everyday outfit when they go to class, so a couple of times I had Sims going whilst in their PJs or underwear. Saskia and Jessica were both into Music and Dance and Louisa was into Arts and Crafts. So I stuck a ballet barre into the dorm. It's also the cheapest object you can buy to build the Body skill. Sims 2 University features two mascots. The Llama mascot is good and the Cow mascot is bad. If they're both on the lot at once, they'll get into a fight. The girls became good friends with the Llama mascot (I forget his name). Louisa even became BFFs with him! You know what's a good idea when it's raining? A water balloon fight! Jessica got bored one day so decided to Streak around the dorm. Neither of her friends took any notice. I didn't take that many photos of them when they were at college. They all graduated Summa Cum Laude and moved back to Pleasantview. To make things easier I decided to create a guy for Saskia myself rather than have her meet a random NPC. Here's Simon Eastley. Things moved pretty quickly on the Romance front and they soon got married. In the photo we have Jessica, Abby Morris-Jones (neighbour, and one of the lesbians Karen Bancroft met on her first day), Samuel Marsden (one of the group of Sims I created so that Michael Bancroft could live in an all-male dorm, and who actually became BFFs with Saskia), and Louisa. Jenna Morris-Jones (Abby's wife) had been on holiday with her kids, and had learnt the Slap dance (each holiday destination has a specific dance). She started doing it... so everyone joined in and learnt the Slap dance off her. Saskia and Abby look fairly similar. Saskia's the one towards the back of the photo, talking to Simon. Simon and Saskia took a holiday to Takemizu Village (Far East themed). I didn't take any photos. I decided to create a pair of cats in Create-a-Sim/Pet and moved them in. They're called Ginger and Vanilla. See if you can guess which is which! Simon's Lifetime Want is for three kids to graduate from college, so they got going fairly quickly. Here are twins (yep, lots of em in Sapphire Springs!) Tara and Ryan. Tara's being taught how to talk by Simon, and Ryan is the one playing with the activity table. Santa paid a visit! (I made sure to keep the lights off so they wouldn't risk catching fire). Saskia's in the pink nightdress. Abby and Simon work in the same career track; like kids sometimes bring home a classmate, so do adult Sims sometimes bring home a co-worker. Presumably this is to help make friends. Tara and Ryan are currently Children and Saskia is gestating baby #3. I used the motherlode money cheat so that the family could buy a vacation home; Simon, Tara and Ryan are currently on holiday in Takemizu Village. Since I've only done one post on them I'll have the next Fundie update to be on my Sims 4 family, the Smiths.
My son's dinner plate. Actually, one of his dinner plates. The homemade mac and cheese and green beans had to go on another dinner plate because there was no room on this plate. Disclaimer: I don't usually make two starches in one meal, but we had a complainer in our midst who missed the rolls last night because he was over his girlfriend's house. I had to make rolls all over again because said complainer does not like leftovers. Complaint: I am on day 9 of "Lower Sodium, Fat, & Sugar in 2012." Although I do cook from scratch, I love my salt and I also have a sweet tooth. Green beans taste better with salt.
