  1. Some bad news out of Paris I see orange idiot had to chime in.
  2. Saw this Vox article in my news feed today. “It used to be that to be an evangelical Christian was to be like Kirk Cameron or Jeff Foxworthy, old and irrelevant and consigned to made-for-TV B-movies. But there is an effort from churches like Zoe and Hillsong underway — probably more unconscious than deliberate — to make Christianity accessible, cool, and interesting to young people. This form of Christianity involves fashion, music, and, of course, celebrity, since modern American evangelicalism has always spread in part by being adjacent to power.”
  3. We just heard on the police scanner that one of the amphibious vehicles ("Ducks") used for tourism on Table Rock Lake in Missouri (close to where we live) sank due to weather conditions. They're saying 20-30 people on board and at least 6 already dead. I am so sad. This will be devastating for our community and the people involved. Not much news as of yet--been following it on the scanner app. A severe storm came up quite suddenly and I guess the boat couldn't take the choppy water.
  4. http://www.cnn.com/2017/10/31/us/new-york-shots-fired/index.html Right now it's being reported that up to 6 people are dead. It was initially reported as a road rage incident, but now it sounds like there is more to it, including possible terrorism.
  5. The charming folks at the Daily Mail have been paying attention to the things that are going on in UK politics. http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2017/03/28/british-daily-mail-slammed-for-sexist-legs-it-headline-on-brexit-eve.html I suppose I shouldn't expect anything else from these guys now but come on!
  6. I searched and searched and didn't find threads on either of these stories. If my search skills stink, please merge me on over to the right spot. In Paris, French authorities have opened a terror investigation after a soldier shot a man wielding a machete near the Louvre museum in Paris. http://www.cnn.com/2017/02/03/europe/france-paris-louvre-incident/ Meanwhile, a man tossed an explosive device into a Pasadena Cheesecake Factory on Thursday evening, scattering terrified diners and sparking an police search for the perpetrator. I have eaten in that CF. I cannot imagine just having a meal and encountering a situation like this. http://www.cnn.com/2017/02/03/us/cheesecake-factory-pasadena-explosion-trnd/ I am a little surprised on the little coverage either situation is receiving. Perhaps because there wasn't massive carnage? Not being snarky - I think people need to know about both. I didn't see either story on my 6 o'clock news, I had to look online for it.
  7. Since we could all use some good news and happiness in our lives in a world filled with terrible news everyday, an adorable stray kitten interrupted a live news broadcast in Detroit. The kitten was very vocal and insistent upon getting attention, and proceeded to climb all over the newscaster. The kitten has been taken in by the Humane Society and will be up for adoption. Adorable video in the link: http://www.boredpanda.com/stray-kitten-interrupts-live-newscast-and-gets-rescued/
  8. This is so horrible, but they still haven't got any suspects. It says the 4 yr old possibly witnessed the mother's murder. The community is shocked http://www.cnn.com/2016/04/22/us/ohio-shooting-pike-county/
  9. So, Jezebel went dramatically downhill over the last couple of days and I cannot rad it any more (it got super juvenile, super bitchy and super gossipy). Any suggestions for a news site you can click on 2-3 times a day and browse current events and other interesting stuff? I stopped reading Salon a coupe of years and I try not to visit Slate because their clickbait annoys me. I tried the main Gawker site, but the commentariat are awful, and I feel like I'm still giving clicks to the company that killed Jezebel.
  10. I just read about this woman on BBC Trending. I searched but couldn't find her talked about here. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/blogs-trending-35813994 I find the doxing and the fact that people may have lost their jobs by confronting her online very worrying. Even the journalist who wrote the article seems to have experienced a backlash.
  11. Temperatures in the North Pole reached freezing on Dec30-31 climbing 50 degrees above normal. http://www.cnn.com/2015/12/30/us/north-pole-high-temperature-feat/index.html
  12. Yes, if you're in the market for a bunker you're now in luck. There's one for sale in Georgia now. Here's the realtor's listing for the place: http://sisterhood.harrynorman.com/property-detail/1515791/Address-Undisclosed News article on the place: http://www.newser.com/story/216192/for-sale-175m-luxury-bunker.html I'm liking the idea of a home theater to play all my MST3K DVDs.

    Duggars mentioned on E!

it's so ironic. The showed the Dillard thanksgiving picture the put up fan tweets about where fans tweeted their favorite. The Duggars have now become exactly what they preach against worldly.
  14. For so long, every single day I would log onto yahoo.com and there would be at least one article featuring a Kardashian. Now, it's the Duggars, and not a single Kardashian article in sight. Here's the titles of my current page: At the top, the scrolling pics - "Duggar shares kiss" - photo of Ben and Jessa Listed under All Stories: "See Photos from 19 Kids and Counting's Jessa Duggar and Ben Seewald's Wedding" Good Morning America - photo of Ben and Jessa "See Photos from Jessa Duggar and Ben Seewald's Wedding" ABC News - no pic "19 Kids and Counting: Duggar family courtship rules losing ground from parents" Examiner.com from RSS - photo of Jill Oh well, we do have one Kardashian mention about three scrolls down the page. Kourt & Kris take a walk or something Second mention - Bruce & Kris divorce Back to Duggars - another link to ABC article re the IG kiss photo Do all yahoo readers see the same content? I am looking at yahoo.com
  15. I am curious did anyone watch the Ken Burn's Central Park Five documentary last night on PBS. I have to say while well done it was disturbing on many levels. The one I found most disturbing was the media not digging into the story and just contributing to the feeding frenzy. There was no looking into the facts or thinking something here doesn't add up. Instead it was a common case of the easy sensational story with little questioning or fact checking.
  16. I've been away for awhile, and I've clearly missed a few things. I took a peek in the Instagram thread, and I read that John David has bought himself a house? I didn't know that. I'm wondering what else I've missed. I don't watch the show, and I don't really want to slog through the Instagram thread. Also, did Josh really post a picture mentioning Free Jinger?

    What does Arkansas think?

What do people in Arkansas think of the Duggars? I would love to know if their town really likes them or if they are like a freak show in the state. Jim Bob did say they are the number 1 show on TLC. I thought that was Jon and Kate plus 8 when it was airing
  19. show on Friday. To see when Anderson airs in your area, you can go to the website and type in your zip code. http://www.andersoncooper.com/

    Duggar Article in Time

healthland.time.com/2012/02/16/19-kids-and-counting-why-the-duggar-family-keeps-having-kids/?iid=hl-category-mostpop1 Found this article while doing homework for my Poli Sci class. I found it interesting because the author basically expresses my feelings about them.
