  1. Thought I'd start a new thread. http://web.archive.org/web/200206031508 ... index.html Thank you waybackmachine.org! They were married Jan 2002.
  2. Melanie and Nathan are celebrating their 14th anniversary. Nathan looks as crazy-eyed as ever in the pic, but Melanie continues to look radiant. Whatever is or isn't happening over there seems to agree with her.
  3. itonramp.com/courses/iphone-i-ssentials/57 Well actually, he'll teach you about blocking access to websites and limiting the capabilities of your iPhone. Are there seriously people who will pay for this? I guess the people who have google blocked on their iPhone have to, but jesus....what a waste of money.
  4. New post up. I really hope the baby and Mel are ok.
  5. Hurry! Hurry! Sign up for your 1TonRamp class!!
  6. I was digging around today and found the modeling profile for one of Melanie Maxwell's younger sisters. Nathan's head must explode when he sees her. http://www.cityevents.tv/talentfinder/M ... tml#photos
  7. Today marks 11 years Nathan and Melanie have been married, according to the blog. The picture Sarah put up of them is a nice one. The little I can see of Melanie's dress, it looks really cute. Even Nathan looks good in the picture, but he still has intense, creepy eyes.
  8. One of the wives went full-tilt rebellious? I think Melanie would be the most likely candidate. Suppose, one day, Nathan came home to find a TV in the living room and a satellite dish on the house, and she simply said, "I'm home with three babies all day, and I'd like to catch a show once in a while." Or, "How do you like my new jeans? I dropped the kids off with your sisters and went to the Gap." Or even, "I went to the doctor for a checkup, and he fitted me with a diaphragm. I've given birth four times, and I figure I'm about done." Picture her blithely and matter-of-factly going about her business, and not taking the bait when he gets shocked/ticked off/self-righteous. What do you figure would happen then?

    Were Nate & Mel "punished?

In the eyes of the Maxwells. When Nate & Mel were courting and engaged, they, touched! He was also alone with her to propose, and in the limo. (All clearly stated in their blog, plus "touching" photo's.) They practiced entwining arms for the wedding toast. Since they didn't concieve for 4 years, have issues maintaining pregnancies, lost their first, and have only girls, do the Maxwells think they are being "punished"? Chris and Anna did not touch and conceived a boy in a fairly reasonable amount of time after the wedding. Could this be why they are now so "no touching" stance? I don't think Stevie, etc. have ever "said" as much to Nate, be could it be in his/their "hearts"?

    Nathan overshadowed

Between Uriah getting a bath and the engagement, Nathan posted on the Maxwell blog. He thanked people, for their prayers but also for their advice/opinions on Abby's bike helmet. He acknowledged the hard work of being a mother as he played Mr. Mom for a week when Melanie had the baby. He was, in short, humble and respectful of other people. So totally not his father. It was still kind of a sanctimonious post and I have to say I don't like Nathan any more than any other Maxwell. But - and it's a big but - somewhere along the line, he learned at least the basics of human interaction. Acknowledge other people, their ideas, thoughts and words. Other people count. In that one post he gave more to the Maxwell readers than Sarah, er, Steve, has given in years.

    Melanie Maxwell gave birth

Melanie Maxwell gives birth - it's a girl!
  12. and has only girls, no boys. Do you think Nathan's "viewpoint" might change over the next 20-25 years..... If Sarah, Anna, and/or Mary don't marry, one of the brothers can be their "headship". If one of Nathan's daughters doesn't marry, there is no brother to care for them. Maybe Joshua would be expected to care for them. (Poor kid, only 24 hours old and already a "headship" of his older female cousins. ) Steve will most likely be gone or very "elderly". Maybe Nathan will allow for his daughters to have enough education to be able to earn a living. Either way, I can see a lot of "conflict" in Nathan's future.

    Maxwell Brothers

I'm a bit defrauded by Joseph in this photo: Nathan has a slightly maniacal look in his eye, doesn't he?

    Maxwells and government aid

I think it's safe to assume the Maxwells don't look kindly on government aid/welfare. Nathan Maxwell uses that "Christian" insurance policy where everyone pays for each others' health care expenses if they feel it's a "moral" medical need. Anyways, business appears to be down for the main Maxwell family. They're not making their Maxwell conferences anymore and they are competing in an increasingly crowded field against larger and more professional companies. Nathan Maxwell is trying to jumpstart his ITOnRamp educational webinar. In this economy, that is not easy. Plus, his wife has had a series of complicated pregnancies resulting in six figure medical bills. Given their precarious situation, what do you think the Maxwells will do if Nathan and Melenie finds themselves heavily in debt? After all, their "health insurance" is essentially a charity whereby money sent is based on the morality of one's medical problems. If Melenie acquires an expensive hospital stay (not hard to do!). Or their next baby needs a few weeks in the NICU, their "insurance" may not cover everything. An $150k bill is not unheard of. What will the Maxwells do then? Will they admit that they need the evil government's aid? Will they allow their kids to be covered under Medicaid? What happens if ITOnRamp goes under? Or doesn't produce enough to support a growing family? Do you think Nathan and Steve will ever admit to utilizing government help?

    Maxwell anniversary

New post on the Maxwell blog congratulating Nathan and Melanie on their 10th anniversary. The author (Steve?) makes mention of their joys and sorrows, including the loss of their first born girl. No mention of the two granddaughters, although there's a picture of the four of them. I don't know if it's just me, but after reading the post it felt very melancholy.

Nathan and Melanie interviewed about Samaritan Health

Reading the post about Nathan and Melanie's wedding (thanks for posting that!) led me to google a bit about Nathan and Melanie, and I happened to find an article from May 2011 where Nathan comments on his family belonging to the Samaritan Health Care Sharing Ministry. You can read it here: http://www.khi.org/news/2011/may/23/fai ... ans-cover/ Interesting that one of the reasons they chose it was price, but also there's the whole religious requirement bit, which includes not only religious requirements but also that the members not pursue various "unhealthy lifestyles."
  17. This topic came up on another thread but I thought it was worthy of its own space. I am deeply fascinated to think about what might happen to some of our more extreme first-generation fundie families, if the patriarch (eg Steve Maxwell) were to die prematurely. Do we know of any families that confronted challenges or changed course following the death of the Head of Household? On a personal note, I had a friend in High School, whose father was a fundie of sorts (though I would not have known what the word meant, back then). I am from the UK and was attending a fairly conservative church myself at the time, but this school friend belonged to a family where Dad had isolated the family from other Christians, over a number of years. My friend had siblings who were 10 years+ older than him, so they had already moved out and established their own lives, when he was in his teens, and when his Dad first set up a home church with other families, and then moved to holding his own 'family of 3' church when God told him that the other families were not strict enough. My friend was not taken out of school (it rarely happens in the UK), but his father was extremely strict and they did not allow much socialising and did not celebrate birthdays of Christmas. Fast forward 10 years and the dad died suddenly - my poor friend was actually present when his dad had a heart attack and tried unsuccessfully to resuscitate him. The day after the man's funeral, his wife, my friend's mum, put on her best dress and went out to lunch with her remaining female friends. She had very devoutly followed her husband's wishes over the 15 or so extreme years, because she had promised to 'love, honour and obey... til death do us part' and she took her wedding vows, and her beliefs about male headship, very seriously. But the day after she buried him, she jumped straight into a new life, and with support of friends, she recovered over time, and lives a very happy conservative-lite Christian life to this day. The elder siblings had never joined in their father's extreme ways and so were glad to have their mum 'back'. For them, life went on much as usual, after grieving for their dad, as anyone might. Unfortunately, my friend, (who at this point is more just a 'facebook friend' so I on't see him often) was absolutely devastated by his father's death and took his mother's change-of-heart very badly has still not resolved those issues. He was young enough to have been indoctrinated and taken on his father's beliefs as his own, so after his father died, he was left badly shaken, in a world with no-one sharing his views and beliefs. Since I have been reading at FJ I have often thought about my friend, and have wondered what might happen in these extreme families, if the patriarch were removed. What with all the '"My life is so great!!!!" posts on Titus2.com recently, many of us have been speculating about how the children might be stuffing down huge disappointments and resentments about their lives, and it makes me wonder what might happen if Steve were to be 'taken home' sooner than he expects. I would imagine that technically, Nathan would become Head of Household, (though Christopher would be the one best suited to the death-mongering-preacher job, IMO) but I wonder who might take their chances and jump ship, if the opportunity to think for themselves presented itself. Do we know of any fundie families where Daddy has died prematurely, and the consequences have been played out online? (Sorry for the morbid nature of this post... )

How old are the Maxwell sons?

I know Sarah is 30, Anna is 18, and Mary is 14, but what about the boys/men?
