Christians/Fake Jews...Why do people find them annoying?
xDreamerx posted a topic in Messianic Judaism
This is a topic that kind of fanscinates me. Why do people find fundies and other Christians who observe the Torah and Levitical laws annoying? I don't understand it. I reject the argument that they are "cherry-picking". When you get down to it, every religion and denomination cherry picks. It's the reason there is so much diversity of doctrine and interpretation. I also reject the idea that the NT covenant voids OT laws...well sort of. I mean, Jesus often disregarded them, yet at the same time he often referred to the Torah and The Law and was obviously brought up in the Tradition. I would ar -
I sometimes check in on Samantha, the blogger who writes Virtuous Daughters. A quick summary: She is older than 30, no marriage and no children. She is probably like this because her parents have a 170-point questionnaire to give to all potential suitors. She is a Fake Jew. She celebrates Jewish holidays using the Gregorian calendar (Passover in January, Sukkot in July, etc.) http://www.virtuousdaughters.com/ She is now in Israel, volunteering at an assisted living facility run by Messianics. http://onegirlsjourney.virtuousdaughters.com/ On the

Today, we got a book by Sid Roth in the mail. It is called They Thought For Themselves: Ten Amazing Jews. I had no idea who this was but guessed that someone sending me a free book is up to no good. Google informed me that he is a Jewish convert to evangelicalism who dedicated his life to converting all Jews. Further googling revealed that this free book is a part of a grand campaign in which he used other people's money to mail his book to 2 million Jewish households in the United States. Strange new find - The Peculiar Princess More Messianic Judaism
raised in rebellion posted a topic in Messianic Judaism
This is my 1st post, and I am headed to the intro page next. In the meantime, I was advised that I could start a thread here. This lady is far out, and has many blogs, vlogs, books, and a fairly wide Internet presence. However, she's been around for years and no one seems to be joining her little cult of one. Themes revolve around being sad and right, rejection, the end times, and how to live as a Real Follower of Messiah and YVHV. Not wrong, like all y'all. Her youtube videos are a thing of beauty.- 152 replies

I stumbled across this blog, while following a link to another post on her blog on a completely unrelated topic (the problem of shaming your kids online). heidistone.net/what-do-i-think-of-calling-yourself-messianic/ We've discussed the Messianics ("faux Jews") before. My main problem with them is what I see as deceptive tactics - using a smattering of Hebrew terms and Jewish rituals to lure Jews into a religion based entirely on Christian theology. Heidi's giving her perspective as someone who sincerely came to the Messianic movement from the Christian side

How many fundies are celebrating Rosh Hashanah?
homeschoolmomma1 posted a topic in Messianic Judaism
First Happy New year to all of the wonder FJ Jews. May you have blessed So how many fundies are making up their own Rosh Hashanah? I don't really follow the blogs, but I think the fundie friends I have don't celebrate it till later and not the next 2 days. -
I guess I always wanted to know if Fundies celebrate Jewish holidays and which ones have you seen in blogs?

Revive is an annual gathering for followers of Hebrew Roots, a movement of—for lack of a better term—Torah-observant gentiles. These are non-Jews who have no intention of converting to Judaism yet follow laws, customs, beliefs, and practices commonly associated with Judaism. And while they do believe that Jesus Christ is the son of God and the messiah—though in these circles he goes exclusively by his Hebrew name, Yeshua—they are emphatically not Christian. They do not celebrate Christmas or Easter. They do celebrate Passover and Sukkot. They do not display, either in their homes or as

Lutheran Church Missouri Synod has Messianic congregations
FakePigtails posted a topic in Messianic Judaism
http://www.stltoday.com/lifestyles/fait ... b13e3.html I was really surprised to see this given that Messianic congregations have seemed to be a product of small evangelical groups, not mainstream denominations. Not that I already had a lot of good feelings towards the LC-MS, but this definitely drops my opinion even more. -

This is a video about the marriage of Naomi from Everyday Set-Apart. She and her husband have been legally married since May (the betrothal ceremony), but they didn't have the religious ceremony until September, and she lived with her family during that entire time. PuNyn9_983c Some observations: -Jewish weddings used to have separate betrothal and marriage ceremonies that were months apart, but the custom became to have them on the same day, what with the all the uncertainty of not knowing when you could get expelled or massacred by your neighbors. -The lighting and tintin

Personally I frickin love random splinter groups just reinventing Christianity. It's great! Messianic Jews seem so strange to me. You can't combine two different religions literally, but people still do it somehow. Judaism and Christianity are two different religions that took a different path and there is nothing wrong with that. Then you have people trying to mush it into one and call it Judaism still. Not to mention it's pretty offensive. I have an idea for a new religion called, "Atheists for Allah". Sacred Namers are also fascinating.

http://goynif.tumblr.com/ No need to break the link, but I came across this tumblr that documents and talks about Jewish appropriation of language and customs. Very interesting for those who see the messianic trend popping up in Christian circles.

For your snarking pleasure, themadjewess.com Warning: Lots of racist spewing, especially from her political commentator husband, David Ben Moshe. Although I would characterize her as "barking mad" mad rather than "angry mad" mad, she describes herself as "a righteously indignant, angry, spiritual, NOT religious (as in sanctimonius) JEW-TIAN " How mad? Let's just say she makes Kidist seem downright mellow. She is also "Native American,(Seneca/Iroquois) Former DAR. I've gotten sucked into the blog of Ashley Lancaster. There was a recent thread about her here being discussed on GOMI. She is friend of Lyndsie. I was looking at one of her Q&A postings and this came up. She got into celebrating Passover and she is kind of annoying about it. ourhappilyeverafters.com/2009/12/ashley-answers-part-2.html Here are the entries she links ourhappilyeverafters.com/2008/04/tradition.html ourhappilyeverafters.com/2008/04/for-new-jewish-scholars.html

I started this thread to serve as a place to report all of the weirdo shit that Fake Jew fundies have come up with for Passover this year. Unfortunately, some of our more prominent bloggers in this area have shut down their blogs or are blogging infrequently, but there is still stuff out there. For example, this little tidbit from Messianic Keepers at Home: Wow. I don't think even ultra-Orthodox Jews have come up with a deep mystical meaning for the tiny holes in store-bought matzah. And it can't/doesn't represent something just because you say so. The only thing the

Apparently, Christian "Bar Mitzvahs" are a thing now....
FaustianSlip posted a topic in Messianic Judaism
Just ran across this article from the New York Times. It discusses the emerging trend of fundamentalist Christians appropriating Jewish traditions and symbology to throw "bar mitzvah" celebrations for their sons. An excerpt: I don't even know what to say, except that this just infuriates me for all of the reasons discussed on other threads about faux Jews. Get your own frigging rituals and rites of passage, people. And besides, why not just use confirmation, which is an actual thing in a variety of Christian denominations? The idea of some Pentecostal kid getting u- 92 replies

An interesting article on faux-Judaism in fundie circles
artschooldropout posted a topic in Messianic Judaism
http://www.religiondispatches.org/dispa ... implified/ -
We've had a number of threads snarking on the Faux Jew phenomenon. A common theme is Ur Doing It Wrong, followed by religious/cultural appropriation. At the same time, we also have threads snarking on Christian fundies and ultra-Orthodox Jews, who have very narrow views and tend to tell everyone else Ur Doing It Wrong. Now, a big objection to the Jews for Jesus/Messianic Judaism movements comes from the fact that they are often a marketing device to sell evangelical Christian theology to Jews, often in some pretty sneaky ways like using Hebrew terms (Yeshua instead of J

New blog I found that I'm not sure has been discussed here. Four sisters aged 15-21 write on the site. Most of it is stuff like napkin folding and doing their hair, but this one caught my attention. everydayset-apart.weebly.com/1/post/2012/12/set-apart-reading.html There's no such thing as witches or vampires period. (Yes, wiccans do call themselves witches, I know, but she means witches like Harry Potter and the Wizard of Oz) How is something a sin if it's not real? Love statements like that...

The Fake Jews are all a flutter over Rosh Hashanah--or "Yom Teruah," as they are insisting that people call it over at Messianic Keepers At Home. After all, us silly Jews have it all wrong! This isn't REALLY the beginning of the year, that's in the spring! Ben at Home Shalom has a big blog entry on the Sacrifice of Isaac, saying that it should totally be a Passover story since it's a precursor to the resurrection of Jesus. homeshalom.blogspot.com/2012/09/shofar-so-good.html Major BOOOO on the name of his groaner of a title. What's with all of these Christians claiming to be Jews?
SpeakNow posted a topic in Messianic Judaism
First Ray Comfort did it on 180. Now some dude on the 19KaC page (someone who is all about Jesus) is claiming to be Jewish--all while professing the truth of the Gospel. Then we have our favorite fundies doing passover and wearing Magen David necklaces. What the fuck?
