  1. A Baptist Pastor in Georgia was approached by a married LGBTQ couple and asked if they could join his church. He allowed them to join even knowing the SBC wouldn't be too happy over it. I think Towne View are the winners in this little contest. Sure they got the boot from their denomination and lost quite a few members but the pastor did what he had to in order to sleep at night. And given how much in bed the SBC has been in with Republicans and OFM they can now do their thing. The SBC isn't the only game in town when it comes to Baptist denomination so I'm sure other denominations would welcome Towne View.

Has anyone else watched comedian Mae Martin's new show on Netflix, Feel Good? It's a semi-autobiographical show about sexuality, addiction, substance abuse, and mental health.

  6. LGL, Lithuania's main (only?) LGBT organization was targeted in an arson attack in early August. The doors were set on fire, but it was put out by taxi driver. Now, somebody has set fire in the apartment building where Romas Zabarauskas lives. Zabarauskas is popular LGBTQ+ activist and film maker, who, following the first attack on LGL, put a rainbow flag on his balcony as a sign of support. When he told the police that he suspects the second attack was linked to that, they told him to take down the flag "before the whole house burns down". Nice. The latest updates say that Zabarauskas managed to raise 1,500 euros to buy and give away 500 flags for Lithuanian LGBTQ+ community and allies to put on their own balconies. They even managed to put a rainbow flag on Vilnius municipality. Still horrifying. Especially if second attack was indeed meant for Zabarauskas and somebody just had their apartment door burned because they happen to have a gay neighbor. Police reaction... Cmoon. Hell no. 10. I don't know if I should put this here or in WWoS, but this seems to be more appropriate. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2018/apr/13/trinidad-and-tobago-sexual-offences-act-ruled-unconstitutional It looks like they still have a long way to go before law looses power, but this is still worth celebrating.

  12. I don't have funds to give financially right now, but I really want to help them. So I thought I'd share Esenia and Anastasia's story in case someone else has funds and will to donate. Esenia and Anastasia met few years ago, came out, and were rejected by their small Siberian town. To protect themselves and Esenia's daughter, they moved to Kaliningrad. Things were still bad, and school basically kicked their daughter out for having two mums. So they moved to Kiev. They quickly discovered that Ukraine is not as progressive as expected. They had a trouble finding a place to live, they can't work and are forced to homeschool their daughter. So they are now trying to get out of there as well (to EU, I suppose), but don't have money to do so. And even with money it will be hard AF. Read full story here: https://www.pinknews.co.uk/2018/01/11/exclusive-please-dont-make-the-mistake-we-have-one-lgbt-familys-account-of-running-away-from-russia/ Donate here: https://fundrazr.com/f1JgM4?ref=sh_174vsc_ab_1VDAbBjVGxw1VDAbBjVGxw I so hope things get better for them and they can finally find a home after all that running. They look like happy, loving family. And they are fighters - they have come this far with a kid and two dogs and they are determined to do everything they can to save themselves. I'm sure that with little help they'll do amazing things.
  13. Josh and Lolly Weed were a Mormon couple, who were in a "traditional" marriage with children and publicly acknowledged his homosexuality. He had come out at 13. They ran a blog called The Weed, though I think the most controversial posts have long been taken down.. They have been featured on Nightline and in other news stories about choosing to live in a mixed orientation marriage. Josh also worked as a marriage and family counselor. Today they announced their divorce and put out a public apology to the LGBT community, for misleading them to have "false hope" and for demonizing same sex attraction. I had mixed feelings as I read over the latest blog. It's honorable they are apologizing on several points, it also great they are working to continue to co-parent as a family (although not in an entirely healthy way.) The blog post went into intimate details explaining how confusing and difficult of a journey it has been for them, how it unraveled. They talk about how getting to know the LGBT community after publicly coming out really opened their minds. They tried to offer a very sincere apology for those harmed by their blog. But the damage is done. People were harmed by his propaganda, judged and condemned, they were encouraged to enter marriages without love. I can't share the details, they are far too tender to put out there, but a dear friend I know suffered due to conservative and religious pressures on homosexuals. I wish I could move heaven and earth to fix this issue. To , I haven't forgotten you, I miss you every day. I love you, I hope you have found peace. Here are some details if anyone wants to read up on them. http://kutv.com/news/local/josh-weed-famous-gay-married-mormon-announces-divorce-apology-to-lgbtq-community

  16. The lawmaker wife of former Health and Human Services Secretary Tom Price asked this week whether the government could quarantine people with HIV to limit transmission of the virus that causes AIDS. http://www.politico.com/story/2017/10/20/tom-betty-price-quarantine-hiv-people-244003?lo=ap_f1 Why are people this stupid?!
  17. http://krcgtv.com/news/local/questions-remain-about-death-of-transgender-teen-in-missouri The above is short. This one is longer (because the KC Star does better work than the local tv station that wants you to watch them). http://www.kansascity.com/news/local/crime/article175459621.html
  18. So the past few days, in Minneapolis and Edina, MN (I now live right next to Edina- I go to my gym and shop there), people have been finding these horrific anti gay fliers just EVERYWHERE. People suspect alt eighth involvement. I have attached a photo of a flyer I found; I then threw it away and encouraged everyone else local to do the same. I'm just really scared right now. Sure, there can't be a very big presence of those alt right types around here- but since I saw the flyers in places I like to go, it makes me think- what if I run into one of them? Especially since coming out as nonbinary, I know I look very not-straight. Has anyone else in other cities seen this type of literature?
  19. USA Today <snip> <snip> I had no idea participating in Boy Scouts was such a significant part of growing up in the Mormon faith for boys. I don't believe for a second that this has nothing to do with Boy Scouts choosing to embrace LGBTQ+ youth.
  20. I know Vicky Beeching has been discussed here before. She has been dealing with awful comments on social media. http://www.pinknews.co.uk/2017/04/21/lesbian-christian-rock-star-vicky-beeching-faces-vile-abuse-from-christians/
  21. http://www.tobyjsumpter.com/pink-hair-boys-wearing-girls-underwear/ I love my natural brown and have little desire to change it, but after reading this gem of an exhortation I'm tempted for the first time towards hot pink and neon orange. About halfway through this I had to start repeating "What an asshole" to myself over and over in order to make it through. HIs attitude towards and assumptions and judgements about trans people are sickening.
  22. Yeah, Dobson again. advocate.com/transgender/2016/6/01/james-dobson-be-man-shoot-transgender-woman-bathroom How long until he's caught wide stancing it in a airport shithouse?
  23. As a foster parent/adoptive parent this makes me so upset. After months of hard work, South Dakota lawmakers handed Governor Dennis Daugaard Senate Bill 149, a bill that allows taxpayer-funded agencies to refuse to provide any service, including adoption or foster care services, on the basis of the agency’s religious or moral convictions, according to the ACLU. Gov. Daugaard quickly signed the bill into law, making South Dakota the first state in 2017 to pass anti-LGBT legislation. The ACLU derided the new anti-LGBT bill in a press release: The American Civil Liberties Union of South Dakota has led the opposition to SB 149 through both lobbying efforts and by organizing affected communities. In a state facing a labor and talent shortage, this bill has sparked national interest and local questions as to whether South Dakota welcomes diversity and values the rights of individual citizens. This bill was opposed by local and national child welfare experts that sent letters in opposition including The Adoption Exchange, Child Welfare League of America, National Association of Social Workers, and Voice for Adoption, as well as family law experts, South Dakota pediatricians, and local and national LGBT rights organizations including the Movement Advancement Project, the Human Rights Campaign, and more. - See more at: http://www.thegailygrind.com/2017/03/11/south-dakota-becomes-first-state-2017-pass-law-legalizing-discrimination-lgbt-people/#sthash.ang50aL2.dpuf
  24. Does anyone remember former Idaho Senator Larry Craig? He resigned his position after his conviction for lewd conduct in a men's restroom in the Minneapolis-St. Paul airport became public. (No! He wasn't signalling anything! He just had "a wide stance" in the restroom!) Wikipedia seems to have a good summary of the scandal. Or if you prefer original sources, CNN has a transcript of his police interview after he was arrested. Anyway, he is apparently ready to talk to an Idaho television station, 10 years later. I found the announcement on their Twitter feed. https://mobile.twitter.com/idahoonyourside?lang=en It was posted 18 hours ago and it looked like this: (Sorry. I'm not on Twitter and I don't know how to link to it directly.) I wonder what he has to say? Or maybe it will just be a puff piece, with no hard questions asked? Hmmm....
