  1. Some good news out of Georgia today; Of course I doubt she'd ever get $1 billion dollars but I hope it sends a message to companies that time's up now.
  2. PharmaBro and all around douchebag Martin Shkreli was arrested for securities fraud today. Here's the indictment of the little douche nozzle and one of his buddies.

  5. Politically he seems to have focused on different things than Ammon Bundy & co but I see a similar instability. Very anti-government, despite trying to run for office. He apparently had trouble paying his bills and got a lot of people to go along with his i'm a victim-no rules concern me- all cops are bad mentality. Also because it was known that he's a violent whackjob. No one seems to know what he did for a living although he claims to be a space engineer. http://www.denverpost.com/news/ci_29558336/suspected-bailey-shooter-fought-system-words-and-politics TLDR: Martin Wirth who killed someone over losing a chess game, threatened someone else, drove drunk, ran for senate in Colorado 2014, sued lots of defendants for his eviction (even the governor) and ranted on FB and Occupy Denver demonstrations against the police, shot three deputies. One died, one is in critical condition. He was killed at the scene. Good riddance, JMO, but some are saying he was a sweet man who will be dearly missed and they never knew him to be unstable and he was the victim here. I just don't understand people sometimes...

Tampon Tax Unfair - 5 Women Sue NY Tax Dept.

    PSA - Canada Revenue Scam

While I try to lower my heart rate and calm my husband down, I thought I'd send out this warning. We all know these fuckers are out there but when it happens to you it is scary as hell. Our son received a call from one 'Mark Ryan', who speaks with a strong south Asian accent, informing him that he owes $5,000 in back taxes. If he did not pay today they would 'cancel' his passport and license and he would be taken to court. My son panicked a bit and told the guy this is the first he's heard of any such problem. Our friend Mark said they had tried, but somehow failed, to deliver a notice to his door. It really didn't take too long to suspect a scam. My awesome husband phoned the number (which has a Spokane, WA area code, although they can create any fake number, apparently). The conversation was fascinating to witness as my husband led him down the garden path and then informed 'Mark', who was apologizing that the attorney was at present unavailable as he was 'dealing with International Clients', that the FBI and RCMP were on their way. 'Mark' hung up. Mr. F called back and called him a scumball. 'Mark' hung up again. Mr. F is my hero. We are all very relieved but a little shaken. (Oh, also, maybe my favourite line of Mr. F: 'I can't even hear you. Get a better phone you little piece of shit.') TL:DR. Please beware of calls from 'Canadar Revenue'. Fuckers.

    Distracted Driving

It's not cool. Put down the phone. If you can't drive without reaching back to deal with binkys or crying, don't drive. The only thing that should be happening when you are being the wheel of a motor vehicle is driving that motor vehicle. Don't put on makeup, talk on the phone, check Facebook, send a text. This includes at stoplights. When the light changes, it's time to go. Not send a text. Other people are on the road. It's not time to read the paper, or shave, or brush your teeth. Throwing cigarette butts out the window is littering. Don't do it. Sometimes I wish they would stop mandatory safety standards, so people would be more aware of the risk that they put themselves and other people in while driving. If you know that you are getting into a death trap, perhaps more people would choose alternate methods of transportation.

Should (adult) sex work be legal?

This has been on my mind recently, and I feel that (adult) sex workers (I don't believe anyone under 21 should be doing this) would have more protection against coercion and violence if it were legal. I think there should accountability and regulation within it -- keep the government happy with revenue without arresting a ton of people. But it could become even more dangerous if they legalized it without legislation concerning rules for both parties. I was just curious what people think?
  13. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article ... d-HER.html I'm starting to think it's a requirement for UK judges to be misogynistic and out of touch! This affair lasted 18 months. I'm unsure from the wording if she's 16 now or 16 at the start but if she''s 16 now, she must have been underage when it all started. Even if she was of the age of consent at the time, it's still unprofessional for a schoolteacher to even consider an affair with a pupil! And if the teen had been flirtatious with him as the judge seems to suggest, it was his responsibility to nip any inappropriate behaviour in the bud, and find out why she was behaving inappropriately (troubles at home, etc). And if I was the guy's wife, I'd be disgusted at having the miscarriage bandied about all over the press as the thing that "made" him cheat. I wouldn't be still married to him, let alone standing by him in court. I'd be urging the judge to give him the maximum! But no, the judge's logic seems to be "Oh, poor weak little Kerner, victim of women, one of whom can't give him the kids he's entitled to, which drove him into the arms of a teenage temptress!"
  14. http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/mu ... al-5164409 Despite the fact he slashed her throat and she's lucky to be alive. He didn't care if she lived or died. Surely someone so violent should automatically forfeit his parental rights? If this "father" really cared about his sons, he wouldn't have traumatised by them by nearly murdering their mum. And you'd think the judge would care about the kids' safety, even if he doesn't give a shit about Natalie! I can only assume he's a vile wife beater himself and I hope he gets sacked. Personally, I'd do a 10 year stretch at Her Majesty's Pleasure rather than write to this bastard. I hope this brave lady is able to get this decision overturned by someone with a bit more common sense and compassion.
  15. This made the headlines this week in Canada. Conservative Justice Minister Peter Mackay said last week: the reason there are so few women appointed as judges in high federal courts is that too few apply. At an event with the Ontario Bar Association last week, MacKay is reported to have backed up his statement by explaining that women have a closer bond to their children than men. Women lawyers simply don't apply because they fear that a job in a supreme court would cut them off from their children. What makes it worst is said a similar statement about visible minorities in federal courts. MacKay insisted that they simply are not applying. Seriously? He's basically blaming the victim. Women have made up roughly 60% of law school classrooms since the 90s in Canada and you say none of them wants to apply to a superior judge position? And same thing goes for minorities? I also find it slightly insulting for men to assume that women are more loving and caring and want to spend more time with their children. I never was a fan of him, but now....
