    Finished Knitting Projects

It might be fun (and possibly inspiring) to share some of our finished objects like they are doing over in the Crochet Forum. Let's see yours. Here are some of mine:

    Current knitting projects

Hey y'all! Does anyone have any current or finished knitting projects to share? I was a pretty frequent knitter before we had kids, but I've never really consistently kept up with my projects since then. I have spurts of knitting, then I go dry again. I'm trying to get in the habit of knitting at least a bit each school day. Right now I'm working on a few dishcloths for a niece. The two white dishcloths are Sugar 'n' Cream cotton yarn and the blue one is Red Heart Scrubby yarn. It's the polyester version of the Scrubby. I have some cotton Scrubby, but I haven't tried it yet. I made 2 scrubby dishcloths for myself, and I like them so far. The yarn doesn't show any texture in the knit, so plain squares seem best for it. I also have a twin sized afghan and 3 or 4 baby afghans started, but I don't have any pictures. One of these days I need to get brave and knit a sweater.
  4. Has anyone learned/tried any new knitting or crocheting techniques or stitches lately, or taught any to others? Did they work out well or are they something to share in stuff-I-fucked-up? Yesterday I taught 2 people in our knitting club at work the SSK. What was great is that I FINALLY learned why it doesn't always work for me and why I don't like it: I sometimes put the left needle in the back when I should put in front when knitting the 2 stitches on the right needle together (after having slipped them onto the right needle). Now I will feel more confident in using this technique, which gives the opposite slant to that of a K2tog. It is really cool that there seems to be a resurgence of interest in the yarn arts, at least where I am located. It is such a stress reliever, at least for me and I have found that the feeling I get when knitting and crocheting is similar to that of certain types of meditation. Anyone else feel the same?

    Puppy is obsessed with yarn!

So I've knitted for years but haven't done it in about a year, and since then I got a puppy. I started a Christmas present tonight and he won't leave me alone-- trying to chew, sniff, lick the yarn. I'm also worried about his hair getting on the yarn somehow-- not sure if the recipient is allergic. Anyone have this problem? How do you keep your dog away? I don't want to kennel him just so I can knit.
  6. I've homeschooled for the last seven years and have worked full-time as long as I can remember. My youngest son went into public school in August. I'm working a little less this winter because I'm going through a series of surgeries, so I need a lighter workload. That means I suddenly have free time. Not necessarily a lot -- but enough that I feel a little lost. I will eventually volunteer a bit at my son's school, but I can't really commit to anything until my surgeries are finished. So until then, I've turned into a crafting fool. Current projects? I'm crocheting a cocoon shrug (and maybe two if I like the way this one turns out because I can never have enough cozy things in the winter) for me. I'm also crocheting a set of guinea pigs (to match my youngest son's actual guinea pigs) for a Christmas present for him. He is piggy OBSESSED. I am hoping to finish the inside of a dollhouse I started working on last summer (2015 not 2016). I am also coloring like a maniac thanks to not one but TWO incredible deals I got on Lolliz gel pens, which happen to be a special favorite of mine (plus I just got Johanna Basford'sMagical Jungle, so, you know) . And I owe my middle son a knitted scarf, which is about the only thing I can actually knit because I am not terribly knitting adept. Oh, and sewing! Well, this is more a chore I need to do. I have to hem up some jeans for my sons, who all have skinny waists and ridiculously long inseams. Any more suggestions on how to fill my time? Something tells me that if I can find enough new crafts to do, I can still find ways to NOT have to do housework. This is my plan ...

    Help! Wool's the wrong size

Hello, my fellow FJ knitters! I need your help. I have a pattern for a simple jumper, and I have two enormous balls of wool in one of my favourite shades. So far, so good, no? Well. The pattern calls for double knitting wool, and the wool I have is aran weight. I've tried to look up how to make the conversions necessary, but nothing I've read makes any sense. Can anybody help me?

    Knit leg warmers

I am looking for a stirrup leg warmer pattern. I have found a few on ravelry but I do not want to spend the money to buy the patterns. I look at it like a sock with no heal or toe. Any suggestions on how to construct the no heal part?

    Knitting mittens

I got all excited to see a new post in Yarn, and then it was spam. So I'll just make a (real) new post myself! I have become a bit obsessed with making mittens. I'm on my third pair of Lovikka mittens (a traditional Swedish style that is felted slightly and brushed after knitting, and embroidered around the cuffs--I made myself a pair last winter and they are SO warm and cozy) and I'm also working on a fancy fall-weight colorwork pair from a pattern I found on Ravelry. Any other mitten-knitting enthusiasts on FJ? Favorite patterns?
  10. Someone posted a Contra sweater on Twitter from http://sweaterrarium.com/. It was gorgeous! So I tracked it down. And, was enthralled by the website. It's charming. And made my morning. Just watch the video. [bBvideo 560,340:13quznge] [/bBvideo] (links not broken because these are commercial sites)

    The Sweater

I was a newly wed, my husband wanted me to knit him a sweater. I'd never knit a sweater but I'd done hats, scarves, socks, and afghans. So he picked out the yard and pattern. It was a very plain sweater, stockinette with raglan sleeves. The sweater turned out beautiful, the raglan sleeves sleeves looked great. He went to put it on, ooops……………………………….the neck was a tad small. It would have been tight on a newborn baby. Oh well, I tried. That was 44 years ago, and just a few weeks ago he asked me if I remembered that sweater. Like I could forget.

    Knitted Hoodie

Purple Body! Orange/red/purple/navy fringe! Black hood! As an art major, I decided to make a purple hoodie with multicolored fringe for a couple that shares tops. One woman is taller, with long arms. The other has broad shoulders and became quite round during the making of the sleeves (they took a while). Now, I've got a sweater with still no hood, the zipper is missing, and the shoulders/sleeves fit neither! I'm starting to hate this sweater. ARGH! It's outlasted two relationships! I've moved 3 times, and every time, it mocks me. I tell it fine, I'll finish one part...and then it doesn't fit even more, and I bury it in my closet, underneath the winter boots. The yarn was a gift from one of the couple in 2006, with the understanding that it would become a sweater for the other. 7 years I've toted this thing around the freaking country, and it's still a wreck! Should I turn it into a dozen scarves and hats?

    Pattern help

ACK. I am lost, I am sure that this is so simple but I am just not getting it. Cast on 32 stitches...sounds good....work in stocking stitch for three inches....easy enough...finishing at the end of a purl row...sure. Now for the part I am lost on Next row K.4, (inc. in next st., K.3) 6 times, inc. in next st, K. to end (39 sts). So I knit 4 stitches and increase in the 5th, knit 3 stitches. I do this 6 times, and then increase again. There should be a total of 7 increases in this one row? I think I have it, but man I feel dump. I blame the gastro that has plagued our house this weekend.
