  1. We're finally getting close on the renovations of the 2nd floor of the house. As in the end is actually in sight on these renovations. They've been going on for about 4 years now. The reason for taking so long is that dad did a lot of the work and he could only do the work in the winter when he wasn't otherwise occupied on the farm. The house is about 140 years old. Before we started we had six bedrooms upstairs and one bathroom in the entire house. We took four of the bedrooms upstairs and combined them in to two larger rooms. Plus we took one of the bedrooms and turned half of it into a bathroom, and put a couple large storage closets in. We're now fixing up the last bedroom, which was used as a storage room for many years so it can function as a guest room. We finally got full heat and AC upstairs, when the house was built the heat was provided by stoves in each of the rooms, and earlier remodels only had duct work up to the first floor.
  2. Last week, the overlords spent some time working on their skills in hiding and camouflaging their activities. Some of them are better than others. Demon overlord demonstrates the general concept: Hunting overlord shows it can be done with panache even when hooman requires odd garb: Long-haired overlord, while it must be acknowledged that she faces some unique challenges, also seems to have missed the brief: But to be honest, she doesn't really seem to care very much. And the fourth overlord? She wins. I couldn't find her to get a photograph at all . . . .
  3. The dealer where I bought my 2012 Volt from got this 2017 in yesterday and let me take it for a spin. I had to fight down further pangs of covetous desire I was having for this car...
  4. You're going to be stranded on an island---alone---for the rest of your life. No chance of rescue. FORTUNATELY, you will have a nice collection of appropriate fieldbooks for local flora and fauna, and there are plenty of wilderness survival-oriented handbooks already down there. (Don't worry about how to build snares/traps, tie knots, skin an animal, build a shelter, make a fire from scratch, weave a basket, make cordage, etc.---it's mostly covered. Alas, The Complete Manual of Shipbuilding for Dummies is NOT ever going to be available.) You have ONE big case which will hold ten additional books. This collection is what's going to keep you relaxed, sane, spiritually comfy, entertained, philosophical, etc. for YEARS. What ten books would you take? If you're hung up on numbers: Figure maybe each book tops out at 600 pages or so if encyclopedia-sized, and maybe 900 for a standard hardcover. (No fair getting creative and coming up with a one-volume complete super-encyclopedia that combines 25 volumes and weighs 700 pounds!)

    Geocaching?

Any one geocache? I seem to be really bad at it. I find the location alright, but the actual caches are always missing or empty

    Something you don't really mind

Just for fun, I'm feeling generous - let's list something that doesn't bother you about the Duggars. I'm curious what others would say. I for one am not all that bothered by the J names. Some are stupid sounding, like Jinger, John-David, Jediadiah but the idea of the names beginning with the letter J is not a big deal to me.
  7. actuallyjessica

if you didn't know their names!

this is sort of in the same vein (names!) as the other thread about the j names, so mods, i understand if you wish to merge the 2 topics. i have a note saved (from june 2013) for names i think would suit the duggar kids, had they not gone with the j names and i didn't know their names. i often look at people and think they don't look like their name. for instance, there's an old man (let's call him bob!) i know, and even though i know his name, i always have to stop myself from saying the hi, graham. this happens to me with quite a few people. -- Josh = Andrew (Andy) Paul Jana = Katherine (Katie) Mary John-David = Bradley (Brad) James Jill = Elizabeth (Lizzy) Anne Jessa = Stephanie Louise Jinger = Alyssa Naomi Joseph = Nicholas (Nick) Benjamin Josiah = Daniel (Danny) Peter Joyanna = Lauren Susannah Jeremiah = Noah Matthew Jedidiah = Thomas (Tom) Isaac Jason = Zachary (Zach) Lucas James = Alexander (Alex) Jared Justin = Blake Simon Jackson = Colin Levi Johanna = Zoey Judith Jennifer = Emily Grace Jordyn = Sophia Ruth Josie = Abigail (Abi) Candace Mackynzie = Ava Delilah Michael = Jack Gabriel Marcus = Ethan Silas Anna = Megan (Meg) Julia Michelle = Susan Mary Jim-Bob = David Paul
  8. Post your Top Ten Lists for any and all subjects. I'm totally stealing this from another board where it's going quite well. I'll start: Top Ten Doctor Who* Episodes- 10. The Lodger 9. School Reunion (Sarah Jane!) 8. Silence in the Library 7. Forest of the Dead 6.Vincent and the Doctor 5. The Girl Who Waited 4. Human Nature 3. The Family of Blood (oh, so many feelings) 2. Midnight 1. Blink *Doctor Who reboot, not the original series Top Ten Movies with Great Soundtracks (no particular order) 1. Pulp Fiction 2. Walk the Line 3. Almost Famous 4. High Fidelity 5. Purple Rain 6. Trainspotting 7. Singles 8. Blue Velvet 9. O' Brother, Where Art Thou? 10.Pump Up The Volume (Christian Slater in this movie was my EVERYTHING) My Top 10 Favorite Books 1. Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams 2. The Duchess by Jude Devereaux 3. Little Women by Louisa May Alcott 4. Reaper Man by Terry Pratchett 5. Ready Player One by Ernest Cline 6. Geek Love by Katherine Dunn 7. The Phantom Tollbooth by Norton Juster 8. When He Was Wicked by Julia Quinn 9. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire by J.K. Rowling 10. Bet Me by Jennifer Crusie
  9. I love Jordyn and wish I could adopt her an bring her home with me where she would get tons of attention and sleep in a real bed. The first Duggar episode I saw had Jordyn climbing up and crawling down the stairs in the TTH unsupervised, later I saw her wandering around the TTH all by herself and sitting in a high chair at the dining room table all by herself. She strikes me as being the most ignored Duggar. At least Jenny has her Dill. The inatttention paid to Jordyn breaks my heart. When hungry the poor baby gets fed cold oatmeal fixed by Justin or eats unfilled ice cream cones. I was impressed by her in Japan. It seems that she loved the food there and as a almost 4 year old was capable of making a decent sushi roll. I think that this child has so much potential despite being ignored that she has the potential to do something outside of fundieland. FREE JORDYN

Which Duggar? a little game :)

Which Duggar would you be if you HAD to be one? I know everyone will say they don't want to be a Duggar, but what if you were forced into the role. You could either be Jim Bob, Michelle or the kids- including Josh. No Anna or her kids. Can't be Grandma or Grandpa (because he has passed) or Amy. It actually is harder than you think to find ONE
  11. Okay so I love the history of the Titanic. I was just thinking what would the Duggars do if they were on the Titanic? I can bet the Boob would try to use his charm to get on a lifeboat
  12. There is a webcam you watch, that shows the famous Abbey Road crosswalk the Beatles made famous on the Abbey Road album cover. You only have to watch a few minutes to see crazy tourists dodging traffic to get photos. I've looked at it off and on, and it's amazing how many people show up there and pose for pictures. It's a high traffic area so lots of fun watching crazies hold up traffic and getting honked at. You need pretty high speed internet access or it won't load.
