A thing that makes me happy

I'm not a gardener and I'm gernerally loathe to wander off my deck or patio into the wilds of nature that is my suburban yard. which reminds me, update on my project to add a couple of lilac bushes:. They died. I'd have been better off setting fire to the money used to buy them. Although my husband thought he had kept one alive for a couple weeks and was quite proud of his faithful care...but turns out the bush died way early and what he was nurturing was some kind of weed. I think this plants official name is definitely-not-a-lilac-bushius...from the Latin meaning 'check out these idiots watering a weed Try not to be too jealous of the chair we keep next to the grill. We try not to flaunt our vast wealth and know not everyone can own plastic weathered chairs which need cleaning they got for free when neighbors moved 900 years ago. We aren't the kind of people who "buy their furniture" but we still relate to the common man. He gets points for trying and we got a anecdote out of it so silver lining. And I know we need to edge the patio...I'll do it when Mr. Buffy heads out to BBQ the steaks and I go out make an insincere offer to help. I can see you sitting there sipping mint julieps wearing fancy hats admiring your own perfectly manicured lawns raising your eyebrows...stop judging me! anyway we have two shrubs (I guess) that are awesome because they are beautiful when in bloom and are clearly hardy (and not planted by us, as evidenced by the fact that they're still alive.). The other day the one on the right had one bloom and today it had quite a few and eleventy hundred buds...the other one is just starting to bloom. interesting in that there are 2 or 3 different colored blooms on these and the pinker one is blooming faster and the purpley one trying to catch up. I thought there were 3 colors but my memory could be off as so far only 2. I could swear there was a lighter blue as well, but I could be remembering things as better than they are. I can do that when I love something. Thanks to those who let me know they are called Rose of Sharon hibiscus. Because when we move eventually I'm going to want some of these wherever I live. Although I said that about the lilac bushes of my childhood and took me 20+ years to even stage a failed attempt so I should probably just get good pics once in full bloom and enjoy them while we're here. The deck is off the upstairs so the shrubs are...however tall that would be. I'm not an engineer, i don't know how tall that is. The one to the left is just starting to bloom but can't see it in this pic. They look to be the same size irl so idk why one would bloom before the other? Better work ethic? When in full bloom there are more flowers than leaves, it seems, it's like two giant bouquets just outside my kitchen window. Which is good since I haven't gotten an inside bought from the florist bouquet since Valentines Day. Anyway, this is my only chance to blog about plant stuff and because I neither know nor care about anything else in the yard. I do have a weird ugly tree/bush thing out front I could post if I want to be the subject of derision and pity.
  4. Spring has finally, FINALLY sprung! I am so thrilled . . . even if it means we are starting thunderstorm season. My zucchini are starting to grow! Mr. Spoon planted the Garden Tower with lovely herbs: The trees are in bloom (top cherry, bottom crabapple): The wildflowers are blooming: And Pigeon is thriving! Oh Happy Days!!!
