Michigan Biology Teacher Used a Racially Insensitive Worksheet
47of74 posted a topic in Quiverful of Hate
A Michigan biology teacher got in a bit of trouble. I know humans are primates but I would have played it safe and not included any pictures of humans of any race or culture on such an assignment, period. There's just too much racial and cultural baggage to risk it, and I think no matter what specific racial type of human (Caucasian, African, Asian, Native American, Aboriginal, etc) it would have been racially insensitive at best to include it on the worksheet. I think the teacher would have been OK if they had not included an image of President Obama's or any other human for that matter on the worksheet. If it was me I would have built my own worksheet with the pictures of the other primates. I would have either had a true/false question asking students if humans are primates or put a statement on saying that students should note that humans are also primates. -

Because of what happened in Parish I had search for Notre Dame and saw this piece of news from Notre Dame University about a piece of excrement joining the school. Maybe Paulie can teach them how to be douche nozzles that would starve their grandparents in order to worship the almighty dollar.

Hello fellow studying FJers! I hope to revive this club with this first thread. I can start with my own situation. I am currently doing a come-back to college for a micromasters in teaching. I'm doing it part time, while working a fulltime job. Even if I finished my masters only 2 years ago, I was a bit anxious to go back. What was the most stressful for me was the idea of managing the class loadwork and my job. Time management was a struggle even when I was a full time student, so of course I was expecting it to be awful with my fulltime job. That is why I decided to take only one evening class. Turns out I am managing ok. Not as bad as I thought. It also is encouraging to realise I really like my class. I find the subject very stimulating (and it helps that my professor is pretty cool). Honestly, it tells me I'm doing the right thing in trying to become a teacher. I worked on my second paper this weekend, due later this week. I wish this can be a place to discuss the realities of being a student, the struggles and successes of furthering your education. Work hard and study on!
