    Johanna Basford gets OBE

So, Johanna Basford got an OBE (Order of the British Empire) for her services to art and entrepreneurship. While giving her the award Prince William told her that Kate likes coloring in Secret Garden. http://abcnews.go.com/Entertainment/prince-william-reveals-princess-kates-secret-hobby-coloring/story?id=43900448

    Raise Your Glass

I'm finally coloring again! Today when I was out, I bought a new coloring book, Home Sweet Home, by Steve Duffendack. I colored the page with gel pens. I'm a little disappointed in some of my color choices, but fuck it, I enjoyed the realizing quiet time.
  5. An article from the great folks at Mental Floss. http://www.mentalfloss.com/article/83460/buffy-vampire-slayer-coloring-book-coming-soon But we have to wait until Jan 17 to get them. Not quite my thing but I suspect there are others here that will want one.

  9. I got some kind of shitty news yesterday so to cheer myself up, I went window shopping at amazon for coloring books. I found a few that I thought our FJ Colorists might enjoy so decided to just make a post about them. These are in no particular order. I know we have a lot of Johanna Basford fans here. This calendar looks adorable, but I'm not sure if I will get it or not. It does have a page to color every day, so that might be fun. The sample pages were darling. This one comes out on July 12, 2016. She also has a Lost Ocean and Enchanted Forest calendar coming out the same day. Johanna Basford 2017 Coloring Day-to-Day Calendar I put this one in my wishlist. The sample images they show look right up my alley. This one comes out on November 9, 2016 Blooms, Birds, and Butterflies Adult Coloring Book (31 stress-relieving designs) (Studio Series Artist's Coloring Book) I already pre-ordered this one. I normally am not all that into steampunk, but after seeing several pages that members have posted on the group blog, I decided to give this one a try. Based on what I know about Dover coloring books, I am pretty sure this is going to be 2 sided pages and likely not perforated. This one comes out on August 17, 2016. Steampunk Animals Coloring Book (Adult Coloring) Unfortunately there are no sample pages up for this one yet, but the cover was interesting enough for me to put this one on my wishlist. It comes out July 20, 2016 Creative Haven Insanely Intricate Phenomenal Fractals Coloring Book (Adult Coloring) This one looks like the stuff nightmares are made of to me, but we recently has some members post pages from similar books, so I wanted to include it to give them a heads up. This one comes out on July 5, 2016. Fantastic Cityscapes: A Mister Mourao Coloring Book This one looks like it might be fun based on the sample images. It's no Creative Cats, but the designs on the sample pages are cute. I'm throwing it on my wishlist for a determination once it comes out. It comes out on May 24, 2016. Posh Adult Coloring Book: Cats & Kittens for Comfort & Creativity There are so many new books coming out this year. A few that looked like they might be interesting based on the titles don't even have cover images done yet, so I didn't include any of them. I might do another one of these posts at some point, as there really are tons of exciting looking new books coming out. If there is a new coloring book coming out that you think is the bees' knees, post them in the comments so we can all take a look (Free Jinger affiliate links)

    Goldfish

I really enjoyed coloring this yesterday! It's from the book, Secret Garden, by Joanna Basford. I used Fiskar's gel pens.
  12. As you saw if you looked at my supplies set up post, I have a lot of coloring books. I'm going to talk about 5 or so at a time so the posts don't get too long. I really have no idea how many parts this will end up being as a result. I may mix it up and add some gel pen/marker posts in between, as well. I really like the Design Originals and Creative Haven books, so that is mostly what I have. I do have a few others, though. Let's get started! Adult Coloring Book: Stress Relieving Animal Designs This is one of the very first adult coloring books I bought. It was a nice starter book for me in terms of designs, but when I started out (and still a little bit even now) I want to color animals their proper natural colors. This leads to some really boring coloring on beautiful designs. So I have only done 2 pages from this book. Now that I'm getting more comfortable mixing things up a bit, I need to pull this one back out and try again. The designs are all one animal per page and there is a good variety of animals included. The areas to color are easy to do with a sharp pencil or a gel pen. Thicker markers will probably be an issue for the majority of designs in this book. Pages are single sided and perforated, so you don't have to worry about bleed through and you can pull them out easily for completion (my preferred method). Creative Haven Creative Cats Coloring Book (Creative Haven Coloring Books) I love this book. I have done 2 pages out of it so far. My only complaint and it's minor is that the cat is the same on every page. I solve this by just making the cat a different color every time. The cat is adorable, which you can see here on the cover. There are a variety of situations the cat is in, including nature scenes, cityscapes and a set of face cards. All the designs have quite a lot of detail in them, some of it pretty small.. The pages are single sided and perforated. Dover Creative Haven Art Nouveau Animal Designs Coloring Book (Creative Haven Coloring Books) I have not colored any pages out of this book yet, but I do really like them. They are more of a realistic, old style rather than many of the books I have which are a bit more cartoony looking. All the designs contain some type of animal in a nature scene. Some of them are quite detailed, but some pages have fairly large areas so there is a good mix. The pages are single sided and perforated. Creative Haven NatureScapes Coloring Book (Creative Haven Coloring Books) I haven't done any pages out of this one yet either (which is actually the case with the majority of the books I have lol). If you like animals, this is a great book for you. The designs are all done in a realistic style and it includes a large variety of wild animals and birds. This one has design areas that are fairly large, but there is still nice detail in each picture. The pages are single sided and perforated. Dover DOV-91374 Dover Publications-Nature Mandalas This is one of my favorite books. I've done a few pages out of this one. There are animals, birds and insects in the designs, along with other nature elements. The designs have a good bit of detail, but it's not tiny, hard to color areas. The designs are on the more realistic style side. The page are single sided and perforated. If you have specific questions about any of these books, please feel free to ask in the comments. I'll be happy to dig the book out and answer any questions to help you get the best fit for your style. (Links are Free Jinger amazon affiliate)
  13. Today I'm going to continue with notes about various coloring books I have. If you have any questions about a particular book, I'll be happy to dig it out and answer specifics. I'm trying a different way of linking this post, so you can see prices and it's clear that it's an amazon (affiliate) link. Let me know what you think in the comments. I'm normally not too "Christmasy," but this book was done by my favorite author so I had to get it. I didn't pay attention when ordering it, just saw she had 2 new books out (the other one is below) and knew I'd like it since it was by her. When it came, I discovered it was an "on the go" coloring book, meaning it's "pocket sized." I just leave this one in the car and that way when I go out, I just have to grab my travel pens or pencils and I'm ready to go. The designs are all adorable and what you'd expect from the author. This is essentially the full size version of the book above. The designs are not completely identical, so having both of them isn't totally repetitive. I've found I don't really mind having 2 copies of the same design, in most cases, because it gives me an opportunity to try something different the second time around. The designs are adorable in this one as well. There are some designs that are more of a general holiday/winter type vs being strictly Christmas designs. This is by the same author as the Creative Cats book. It's pretty similar only with Owls instead of cats The designs are not exactly the same with owls substituted, however, so having both books is not an issue. Most of the designs have a lot of smaller elements in them, so if that is not something you enjoy, you'd probably be better off with a different book. This was one of the first books I bought. I love butterflies and if you haven't noticed that by now, you will before too long because I have a bunch of butterfly pages that I haven't posted yet in Picture of the Day. These designs all have butterflies, obviously. They vary between larger designs with bigish elements, down to "busy" designs with a lot of detail. The butterflies in circles with all the little dots that I posted for Picture of the Day a while back is from this book, as well as the one I just posted a couple days ago with the butterflies that are done in pen and the background is done is colored pencil. This book has pages that are in the more realistic realm. The designs are relatively large, but have plenty of detail. I don't recall any designs that are super intricate. I have a MOOSE page pulled out of this one to do in my current round of pages.

    Under the Sea

I found this, halfway completed, over the weekend. I finished the last few touches tonight. I think this is one of my favorite pages so far. I just love the way it turned out. It's another one from Joanna Basford's, Lost Ocean. I used Fiskar's gel pens and Gelly Roll pens.
