  1. I don't know if this has been discussed but Mike Shoesmith recently went on the every crazy Carl Gallups radio program. He stated that because men were visual creatures that women who dress sexy are therefore, sexually assaulting them. So in other words, if this woman who doesn't believe that modest is hottest gets assaulted, it's hardl the fault of the poor man. What a piece of shit! http://deadstate.org/christian-pastor-women-who-dress-provocatively-are-committing-sexual-assault-on-men/

    Blimey Cow Youtube

Blimey Cow is a youtube channel run by home school graduates. They hang out with Olivia Howard occasionally (from the Fresh Modesty blog) since they all live in the same area. Their newest video is about home schoolers and dating. It had some funny things in it (like side hugs and a song about the first time their shoulders touched). What do you think about their channel?
  3. I was wondering if anyone else watched her. She has been making "Christian Womanhood" videos since 2011 and used to be more moderate but she has turned into a young Lori in my opinion.
  4. A North Carolina restaurant manager finally had enough of people leaving those tacky little notes instead of tips; kgw.com/life/restaurant-manager-fed-up-with-religious-pamphlets-as-tips/19953489 This is what she said;
  5. We know that the Duggars are pretty involved in pro life campaigns. But what is pissing me off so much about this is that it is actually patriarchy and everything that belongs to it that is causing abortions. 200 years ago when our ancestors were living in the society the Quiverful folks deem perfect there were women that killed their babies after birth because they were unmarried. And some of these unwed mothers were raped, some of them had a sexual partner who promised them that he will marry them even though he never did, some were just so horny that they lost control. The less extreme patriarchal society is in my oppinion also a society where less women can fit a baby into the lives they want to live because they for example have a harder time to be a mom and to work at the same time. So more women decide against the baby they are pregnant with. The Duggars and their likes are living in their own little world where everything that is wrong (to them) can be easily solved by speaking out against it or by simply forbiding it when in fact the causes of a lot of social phenomenas are far more complex.

  7. A friend of mind shared this with me on Facebook last night and I thought my fellow Freejingerites might be interested in it as well. The survey was made by the Pew Research Center, who isn't affiliated to any religious group. According to this research Evangelical Christians mistrust Atheists the most and Atheists mistrust Evangelical Christians the most. How wonderful! Overall, everyone is on the same page right? Here is one link: pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2014/07/16/u-s-evangelical-christians-are-chilly-toward-atheists-and-the-feeling-is-mutual/ And another link here. The overall survey is analyzed in a more complete way: pewforum.org/2014/07/16/how-americans-feel-about-religious-groups/ Apparently, Evangelicals love Jewish people, but Jews seem a bit more skeptic. Also, Atheists seem to rate non-christians groups (Buddhists, Hindus, etc.) higher than most Christians. None of these results are very surprising for me, and I don't even live in the US. Nonetheless, it's interesting to have all this information gathered up.
  8. Representative Alonzo Baldonado expressed "concern" ie ignorance in the Albuquerque Journal about the pre workout stretches/ mat work one physical ed instructor is doing in public school. He expressed concern because yoga is supposedly linked to eastern religions specifically Buddhism and hinduism. Baldonado is from what I can tell a findie. I dont understand how stretching, relaxation and breathing are considered non christian. They are not part of a religion at all. They are part of a whole body fitness program. FYI dingbat Balonado says that he is not raciest. Link to the story http://www.abqjournal.com/289858/news/pe-stretching-raises-religion-concern.html Stupid autocorrect it should be eastern not easter.

    "Bishop" Eddie Long now "King"

http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/blo ... _blog.html Offending Jews and Christians alike in a display of ridiculousness and pomposity, for what purposes it is hard to discern. AFAIK, "King" is not a position that exists in Christianity for leaders. But I guess if you have already aquired for yourself all the other labels, there's nothing for it but an "Senior Apostle Prophet Pastor Bishop" to add a rung to the ladder and move on up into royalty.
  11. This makes me ill. Where was this "caravan" when tornadoes nearly wiped Cullman and other towns in AL off the map in April 2011? You stupid assholes want a prayer caravan, but you won't come to Cullman to help after a natural disaster. I hope they succeed in blocking the caravan from doing their thing on school property. Why not host the even in your own backyard Sup. Coleman? Why won't some good Christian from the area open up property for this event? Sup. Coleman, you have an agenda as do most school systems in AL! Anyway, full article can be found here: christiannews.net/2013/07/27/alabama-school-superintendent-to-defy-atheist-demands-to-cancel-prayer-caravan-event/
  12. Went through some of the old Living Waters Newsletters I still receive. I like a nice laugh now and again and Living Waters tends to always be good for a laugh. Here are some of the things in those letters: Ray Comfort wants no atheists around to disagree question him. Oh, and Ray Comfort is a celebrity. A bunch of people are pretending to be him and spreading lies, so report them as impersonating celebrity Ray Comfort, y'all! They are now selling Lincoln trillion dollar tracts instead of just the million dollar ones and also celebrity caricature million dollar tracts for July 4. Stupid wallet tracts are also available: Idiots they are. And video games are evil 0ffnWV8lgMw&feature=youtu.be And Richard Dawkins has a dirty secret wkVPe62iTv4&feature=youtu.be Shitty story time!: Comfort attempts logic and fails: PZ Myers is in the new EvolutionvGod movie Living Waters created and talks about how Comfort pretends he's right, though that's not how the conversation actually went and this is Comfort's response: Books they're selling for anyone who wants to delve into the no doubt shitty books of Living Waters: The Evidence Bible The Lie by Ken Ham. How to Win Souls and Influence People Hitler, God and the Bible Why Pro-Life? Scientific Facts in the Bible Hell's Best Kept Secret Way of the Master for Kids Out of Your Comfort Zone 101 Things Husbands Do to Annoy Their Wives God Speaks The Beatles, God and the Bible 180: Changing Hearts and Minds About Life's Hot-Button Issues What Did Jesus Do? All Muslims want to kill you

So I checked back in with the Misunderstood God blog and it appears they have given up on telling atheist why they don't believe in God and have started in on why Muslims are evil and Christians are good. I get bored reading long paragraphs after paragraphs so I just skimmed, but one of the reasons they can't just coexist with Muslims is because even the nice looking ones are evil and want to kill you. They start out quoting a book and then to "prove" that the book is right about Muslims they go find a random Muslim and have this conversation: Me:So, there’s a rumor going around Selma, that Muslims believe that any non-Muslims should be killed…umm, is that true? I’m just doing some research of my own…concerning religion… Selma:(random beautiful Muslim woman at the local park) “Yes, well…we believe, uhh, we believe that if anyone should try to stop Islam, or try to end our faith…that they should, you know, not be on the earth. Yes.†Me: (while our children link legs to make a body train to go down the slide) “So…non-Muslims? They try to take away Islam? Do they try and take your faith?†Selma: “Most do, yes.†misunderstoodgod.wordpress.com/2013/06/24/do-all-roads-lead-to-god/
  14. So apparantly it is okay to make a cake for a Wiccan coven, but for a gay marriage it is against your Christian principals. http://wildhunt.org/2013/06/quick-notes ... ition.html Link not broken because it is a news site (though made for Pagans)
  15. Just ran across this article from the New York Times. It discusses the emerging trend of fundamentalist Christians appropriating Jewish traditions and symbology to throw "bar mitzvah" celebrations for their sons. An excerpt: I don't even know what to say, except that this just infuriates me for all of the reasons discussed on other threads about faux Jews. Get your own frigging rituals and rites of passage, people. And besides, why not just use confirmation, which is an actual thing in a variety of Christian denominations? The idea of some Pentecostal kid getting up to the altar in a tallit, probably with no idea of just how incredibly offensive he's being (because it's not like his parents would tell him), just infuriates me. As for Rabbi Pearlson, who seems to be cool with this kind of thing (and praises Hagee and his ilk in their own appropriation of Judaica), he ought to be ashamed of himself. I wouldn't attend the synagogue or trust the halachic decisions of a rabbi who kept those kinds of ties with fundamentalist Christians. Not on a bet.

Titus freak show coming to town

I just saw the crazy commercials for the Titus crazies who are due to come to town in a few days. What should I expect? That commercial has some serious fire and brimstone shit in it. It's "free to the public." I'm tempted to go just to see the turn out.
  17. This is a great thing this church does so of course they are attacked because of course all Muslims are the jehad. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/12/0 ... 45495.html For the first time in its history, the Muslim Public Affairs Council (MPAC) is holding its annual convention at a Christian church. But now the council's host, All Saints Episcopal Church in Pasadena, Calif., is facing vitriolic backlash. The church has received over 25 hate emails and threats since Friday, Rev. Susan Russell, senior associate for communications at All Saints, told The Huffington Post Wednesday. She blogged about the MPAC event for HuffPost Tuesday, and spoke to the negative reception the church has faced so far.

  19. If you don't mind sharing, what was your sort of process for losing faith or leaving your religion? Is it totally weird or unheard of to just suddenly be like "hey, I don't really believe this and I think I might have been trying to fool myself the whole time" or is that common? If it was a longer process and you don't mind sharing what changed your mind and how you handled things with religious friends and family and the faith community you may have left, please share your story and any advice you might have. (I'm going through some weird things right now and trying to figure out if this is what's going on or if it's going to be one of those flip-flop things and it's not something I can really talk about with most people in my life.)

What Do You Think Of This? - Muslims

The Muslims had a festival in Michigan. The Christians walked through the festival carrying signs. The Muslims shouted and threw bottles of pee at the Christians. This part irritated me. The Christian guy said to the cop "The problem is, when you're not around, that's when they start throwing things." The cop replies "But part of the reason they throw things on someone is because you tell them stuff that enrages them." WTF? That's like a cop telling an abused wife that she deserved being abused because she said something to make her husband hit her. Thoughts? http://youtu.be/tzVdOtF2g-U http://youtu.be/tzVdOtF2g-U
  21. his is the first in a series of stories on losing faith. I thought this was a very good story and she is pretty brave. of course we see the typical results of this the hate the fear the non christian behavior. The link has the full story and a video. http://www.npr.org/2012/04/30/151681248 ... sing-faith Teresa MacBain has a secret, one she's terrified to reveal. "I'm currently an active pastor and I'm also an atheist," she says. "I live a double life. I feel pretty good on Monday, but by Thursday — when Sunday's right around the corner — I start having stomachaches, headaches, just knowing that I got to stand up and say things that I no longer believe in and portray myself in a way that's totally false." MacBain glances nervously around the room. It's a Sunday, and normally she would be preaching at her church in Tallahassee, Fla. But here she is, sneaking away to the American Atheists' convention in Bethesda, Md. Her secret is taking a toll, eating at her conscience as she goes about her pastoral duties week after week — two sermons every Sunday, singing hymns, praying for the sick when she doesn't believe in the God she's praying to. She has had no one to talk to, at least not in her Christian community, so her iPhone has become her confessor, where she records her private fears and frustrations. "On my way to church again. Another Sunday. Man, this is getting worse," she tells her phone in one recording. "How did I get myself in this mess? Sometimes, I think to myself, if I could just go back a few years and not ask the questions and just be one of those sheep and blindly follow and not know the truth, it would be so much easier. I'd just keep my job. But I can't do that. I know it's a lie. I know it's false."
  22. I've looked and don't think this has been posted. A Methodist has a sign posted outside the church saying that God prefers kind atheists over hateful Christians. http://www.umportal.org/article.asp?id=8746 (no need to break link)
  23. Here's an interesting--and disgusting--self described "pastor" (apparently without a congregation; he is actually an insurance agent). He has lots of websites and his fuckery is all over the web but his main site is christianmarriage.com. Some interesting material--directed at "Future Wives"--from another site of his, christianpolygamy.com: A choice excerpt from his "advice column" on Christianmarriage.com (I have bolded the particularly appalling parts): But that's not the worst of it. The worst, by far, is his novel "Prince of Sumba, Husband to Many Wives." There are excerpts of it on ChristianMarriage.com, and almost all of it can be read on Google Books if you delete your cookies periodically. (Doing that seems to get rid of Google's page reading limit.) It's a hilariously awful novel...and also one of the most patronizing and patriarchal things I've ever read. The guy works as a missionary and ends up with 6 native women as his wives. They all have to call him "lord." (But it's not kinky, it's Biblical!) His friends also tell stories throughout the book about their own polygamy adventures, like visiting a quasi-brothel with the possibility of making 49 women their "wives" in one night. At one point, there is a discussion of a man who makes a fifteen-year-old his second wife--in his first wife's house and without her knowledge, although of course that's not the worst part. The book seems to praise that choice. This guy is awful...Enjoy.
  24. Looks like the meme is spreading! tU7TdZSRcpo AWm8oeUANYI I love these. The dogs are the best part of the second video.
