  1. Voddie Baucham, Jr., erstwhile BFF of Doug Phillips & enthusiastic patriarse, is on the publicity trail for his new book He has previously taken the white Christian nationalist position with regard to racism and social justice, as in his dreadful commentary on Michael Brown's death in 2014, in which Baucham blames Brown for his own death. Now, he's devoted a whole book to his views and, as you might imagine, the white Christian nationalist crowd are eating it up. Here's an op-ed he published in the New York Post (America's answer to the UK's Daily Fail? Minor recaps: First, archived FJ threads have a lot of info on Voddie through the years he's been on the fundie scene. Voddie, his wife & 7 younger children relocated to Zambia some years ago when he took a job with African Christian University. He was diagnosed with serious heart problems earlier this year which could only be treated in the US. His recent heart surgery -- discussed intermittently in the current Geoff Botkin thread -- apparently went well. Since, AFAIK, he did not require a heart transplant, as had been thought possible, it looks like he still retains a significant chunk of change from the GoFundMe created for his medical treatment. In contrast to Voddie's contempt for BLM and concepts like CRT, his daughter, Jasmine Holmes, and her husband, Phillip Holmes, have become articulate proponents of racial justice in evangelical spaces. She uses her public instagram feed to present historical data to back up her statements about the racist roots throughout much of white evangelical Christianity. Not surprisingly, many of her fundie readers do not like this & push back.
  2. I'm not familiar with Abedini's ministry per se, just knew about his imprisonment in Iran. Would appreciate more info from those who may know about or of him. So, not posting this for snarking but rather to say, once again, here is a fundamentalist Christian male -- himself persecuted for his religious beliefs -- victimizing his wife. From Christianity Today (http://www.christianitytoday.com/ct/2015/november-web-only/pastor-saeed-abedini-wife-naghmeh-halts-public-advocacy.html?start=1): If that weren't all enough for one person to bear, then there's this, reported last month (http://www.christianpost.com/news/naghmeh-abedini-under-attack-christians-muslims-147974/):
  3. Evangelist Franklin Graham said this week during an event hosted by the American Family Association that evangelical Christians were “on the precipice of losing the United States of America” if they didn’t vote the right way. Whichever way that might be, wink wink nudge nudge. We’re going to lose this country,” he said, if conservatives evangelicals don’t get involved in political activism or show up at the polls. He urged viewers to vote for the candidate who will appoint “pro-life judges” to the Supreme Court and “protect Christians.” http://www.patheos.com/blogs/friendlyatheist/2016/11/04/franklin-graham-if-hillary-clinton-wins-evangelical-christians-will-lose-this-country/
  4. Just spotted: http://www.rightwingwatch.org/content/jim-bakker-government-will-mow-down-christians-praying >>Bakker said that he himself is a victim of anti-Christian oppression and that people should prepare for massive starvation and beheadings.<< Yeah, for busting your butt on multiple charges of fraud and conspiracy.
  5. So this guy feels good making new Christians into persecuted Christians. I guess he feels if he makes enough Christians all will be right. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/11/0 ... 46624.html A Colorado-based Christian group is air-dropping Bibles on North Korea. Over the past year, Pastor Eric Foley and his Christian mission group, Seoul USA, have released around 50,000 40-foot homemade, hydrogen-filled balloons outfitted with Bibles and personal testimonials over rural areas of the country, Fox News reports. Bibles are attached to the balloons in a box or a bag. In North Korea, citizens are forced to follow the state ideology known as "The Juche Idea." Christians there "are the most persecuted believers on earth," Foley told Fox. He estimates that there are around 100,000 Christians in the country. The network reports that 30,000 of those Christians "are believed to be locked inside concentration camps, where they are overworked, starved, tortured, and killed." In 2009, a 33-year-old woman was publicly executed in North Korea after being accused of distributing the Bible. Kenneth Bae, an American missionary, was arrested in North Korea and sentenced to 15 years of labor for "crimes against the state" in May. Foley, who is in his late 40s, told Fox that believers in North Korea have a demand for Bibles nonetheless. He and his wife, a South Korean immigrant, first began sending balloons in 2006, from a location in South Korea near the North Korean border. Even after seven years of sending them up, though, Foley says, "I get choked up, every time, as I let go and watch it take off."
