Mr. McCallum was known for playing Illya Kuryakin in The Man from U.N.C.L.E., Steel in Sapphire and Steel, and Dr. Donald “Ducky” Mallard in NCIS. He was also in memorable films such as The Great Escape and The Greatest Story Ever Told. You will always be my favorite Russian spy.

Game show host, Bob Barker passed away today at age 99. He is best remembered as the host The Price is Right, from 1972 to 2007. An animal rights activist, he ended every show with the phrase, “Help control the pet population. Have your pets spayed or neutered.” Rest in peace good sir. Rest in peace.

Academy Award winning director, William Friedkin passed away today from pneumonia and heart failure. He was 87. He was the director behind the classics The Exorcist and The French Connection.

Musician, actor, and civil rights activist Harry Belafonte has died of heart failure. He was 96. The calypso singer is best known for his songs “The Banana Boat Song” and “Jump in the Line.” Both of which were featured in blockbuster Beetlejuice.

Actor Paul Sorvino passed away July 25. He was 83. Mr. Sorvino was known for his roles in Goodfellas, Law & Order, and Repo! The Genetic Opera. He was also an accomplished opera singer and father to Academy Award winning actress Mira Sorvino.

Voice actor Billy Kametz passed away on June 9 from colon cancer. He was 35. He is best know for voicing Josuke Higashikata in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Diamond Is Unbreakable and Naofumi Iwatani in The Rising of the Shield Hero, among others. Country singer Naomi Judd passed away on April 30. She was 76. Her daughters, fellow country singer Wynonna, and actress Ashley Judd released a statement saying, "Today we sisters experienced a tragedy. We lost our beautiful mother to the disease of mental illness." May you now know peace Ms. Judd.

Actor and activist, Sidney Poitier, passed away January 7 at age 94. He was the first Black male to win an Academy Award for Best Actor in 1964 for Lilies of the Field. He received multiple awards and accolades for acting, as well honors, such as Presidential Metal of Freedom. In addition to his Oscar winning performance in Lilies of the Field, he also appeared in such classics as Blackboard Jungle, Porgy and Bess, The Defiant Ones, Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner?, and In the Heat of the Night. Mr. Poitier achieved and did so much more than what I can even put in this post. He was and is truly a legend.

Esteemed Kenyan conservationist, paleoanthropologist and politician, Richard Leakey, passed away January 2 at the age of 77. In 1984 a member of Leakey’s team discovered the almost complete skeleton of a Homo ergaster, KNM-WT 15000. The discovery of KNN-WT 15000, also known as the Turkana boy or the Nariokotome Boy, was wonderfully accounted for in the book The Wisdom of the Bones. This book is an excellent read and I can not recommend it highly enough.

He was known for providing the voice of Frieza in the English dub of the anime Dragon Ball Z Kai, Dragon Ball Super, and the movies Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection’F’ and Dragon Ball Super: Broly.
