  1. I searched but wasn't able to find anything about Mark Easterday. He thinks he's polygamist amish, but he's just a creepy gun nut with ties to Stan Shepp and Kody Brown. If his wife is spending many hours on the internet looking for a sister wife, that would make them Mennonites, not Amish. But they're really stretching the definition regardless. It seems that he's not really a follower of religion so much as someone who hides behind it to obscure their shady lifestyle. What I am really curious about is why Heidi, married him. I can't find any information on her, and the "Everything you need to know" post on politicsrusprinciple isn't actually everything I want to know. The term "Amish" is stretching it again with her background, because she updated Facebook with her engagement in November 2007 and she had a MySpace profile. Why does she seem so brainwashed, and was she brainwashed before or after Mark? http://politicsrusprinciple.tumblr.com/post/127945828008/the-polygamist-amish-everything-you-need-to-know http://politicsrusprinciple.tumblr.com/post/139436596762/mark-easterday-with-his-two-wives-marian-and https://www.facebook.com/blueabc21 https://myspace.com/blueabc21
  2. Polyamorous groups can get civil unions in Brazil: http://www1.folha.uol.com.br/internacional/en/brazil/2016/01/1733546-couples-of-three-or-more-may-obtain-civil-partnerships-in-brazil.shtml I always find the issue of polygamy very interesting because it carries the potential for such overwhelming abuse and oppression, but it also has its normal proponents just like everything else. What do you think? Can polygamy foster romantic happiness in the modern sense, or does it not work now?
  3. This is our only real local southern Utah news source, so I hope it is okay to post a link. I saw a few polygamist families moving in with some former polygamists in a subdivision near me yesterday. Then I found this story. It is interesting they won't pay $100 a month to stay. It is going to be very hard to find housing for all these families. Right now to find a decent 3 bedroom house in a safe neighborhood in St George is $1500 + . I just worry about the kids living conditions getting worse with so many families living in one house. At least the schools in St George I have experience with have been awesome at catching the kids up and helping them fit in. If it were not for the last names I would have never known some of my son's classmates were "FLDS homeschooled" up until a few years ago. Just seeing that half finished home exterior in the video, a family has been living in for 20-30 years to avoid taxes..ugh! FLDS evictions

  5. A two hour documentary on Tuesday 12/30 at 9pm on lifetime movie network. Saw a commercial for it tonight. Three sisters from the Kingston Clan (a very private and abusive sect) who left and are trying to help others leave. mylifetime.com/movies/escaping-polygamy

  7. I have to say, I didn't see this one coming. They're even coming clean about Helen Mar Kimball. Not breaking the link because it's Gawker, and I strongly suspect that at least one of their writers reads here, anyway. Mormon Church: Joseph Smith Had 40 Wives, Including 14-Year-Old
  8. So, over at the Reconstructionist Theonomist facebook group, they are discussing polygamy inthe act of marrying one's relative's widow. Many view it as archaic or only for Israel, not us today, but not suprisingly, Vaughn Ohlman whose philosophy seems to be "old enough to bleed, old enough to breed" thinks there is no reason this policy ended. Now, he is more well known for his belief that 1) fathers get together an decide who of their children will marry, with none ofthis silly courtship or dating involved and 2) most fundies are marrying much too old and 3) parents can help their underage newly weds along because 4) the kids are sort of reporting to the husband's father for life anyway. I'm sure he would say I misunderstand, but that seems the gist of it to me. We've expected polygamy to be part of fundieism... here is one area it is beingdebated
  9. Yet another polygamy show - and I'm not complaining lol. starcasm.net/archives/240717 The bios and lots of pics at the link.
  10. So I am pretty excited to hear a new show featuring polygamy is in the works. Kristyn Decker mentioned the new show during her radio show, "Polygamy Uncensored''. (kristyn.srbroadcasting.com/) RIVR Media posted the following on their blog about the upcoming show: Source: rivr.com/news/now-casting-for-escaping-polygamy/92/
  11. Sister Wives Blog (sisterwivesblog.blogspot.com) has posted a link to a new show call "Polygamy USA." It begins May 7th. According to National Geographic: (channel.nationalgeographic.com/channel/polygamy-usa/videos/building-a-kingdom/) I know I will be DVRing this series. (Also, I was watching HBO's VICE over the weekend and they were "teasing" next weeks episode. It is about the Lost Boys. But I cannot find a link to the preview.) {fixed wording}
  12. Two new shows featuring polygamy will premier this fall. According to the NY Post: You can read the whole article here: http://nypost.com/2013/09/24/tlc-tackli ... sial-flds/ I am pretty interested in watching these new shows!I hope Polygamy USA is back for a second season! (Edited to fix typo)
  13. sltrib.com/sltrib/news/56894145-78/utah-brown-family-ruling.html.csp Pretty big deal for the Browns and the various polygamist groups in Utah.
  14. Quoted from the shows "About Us" page: The most recent episode is about Rachel (Kingston) Brown who fled polygamy. She then lost custody of children (three daughters) to her allegedly abusive husband. They live with their father and his wife and their six half siblings. Rachel says the children live in fear. During her custody battle Rachel could not afford an attorney. I feel so sad for Rachel. I can't imagine how devastated she must feel. I hope she can get her children back. You can watch the show here: whatloveisthis.tv/episodes/2013/ep636_yt.htm (Previous episode featuring Rachel: )
  15. http://www.mylifetime.com/movies/escape-from-polygamy Lifetime is showing a movie tonight called "Escape from Polygamy." It appears to be about some of what we are always talking about. Is anyone going to being watching? And do you think we will see a movie "Escape from Duggarville?"
  16. How ignorant of your religion do you have to be not to know the founder was a polygamist? don't forget a two time jailbird and wife stealer and pedophile? I guess hiding truths is backfiring. http://www.nytimes.com/2013/07/21/us/so ... l?hp&_r=4& But when he discovered credible evidence that the church's founder, Joseph Smith, was a polygamist and that the Book of Mormon and other scriptures were rife with historical anomalies, Mr. Mattsson said he felt that the foundation on which he had built his life began to crumble.
  17. in2eastafrica.net/the-moment-a-polygamist-virgin-22-found-out-god-had-told-a-teenage-acquaintance-that-they-were-meant-to-be-married-for-eternity-and-the-wedding-was-in-2-weeks/ Your daily load of crazy. Hyrum had been placed into marriage by God with Kellie, an 18-year-old redhead he did not know, who had repeatedly been told by God that he was her husband. One day church elders, known as the Brethren, who communicate directly with God, called in Hyrum to tell him he was leaving the mission. Days later the mystery as to why was revealed. He was telephoned by the Brethren and told he had been chosen by a bride and was marrying Kellie Thompson in two weeks. ‘They say there’s a girl that wants to marry me. Her name is Kellie, and that’s all I really know about her.’ Burton’s Centennial Park branch of polygamist Fundamental Mormons, which split from the infamous FLDS polygamists led by imprisoned child predator Warren Jeffs nearly three decades ago, is unique. The women, who wear makeup and regular, if modest, clothing choose their husbands husband through prayer and counsel with church elders. God, they believe instructs them. They cannot marry until they are 18. The community’s’ spiritual marriages are preordained and last through eternity, the fundamentalists believe, and having children and living a polygamist life is thought to be God’s will. For the first several episodes of ‘Polygamy, USA’ viewers saw Hyrum dutifully served his mission. In Centennial Park the missionaries, who are young men often just out of high school, do everything for the town from garbage collection to handyman services while they work on their morals and prepare to hopefully be husband and fathers. ‘If I follow these rules [of being a missionary], you know, maybe I can bring myself to a point in my character growth where the Lord will bless me with a woman,’ Hyrum explained early on. But Hyrum had a long wait and was kept as a missionary longer than the average two years. He played by rules all the while hoping to one day get a phone call that God (speaking via the Priesthood Council, aka the Brethren) had agreed he was worthy enough, ready and chosen to marry. While he waited he could not date and was almost never around women to whom he wasn’t not related. One episode showed him organizing a basketball tournament in the hopes a girl would notice him and the elders would respect him. Unspoken throughout the show, and Hyrum’s angst, is that fact that with each man married to multiple women many men would, by sheer mathematics, wind up with no wife at all. But Kellie, with God’s voice helping out, chose Hyrum. Like her intended she was raised in the church, saved herself for marriage and never dated. ‘I wanted to stay virtuous until I was married,’ the teen explained. Quick to blush, the recent high school graduate was born in Salt Lake City and had lived in Centennial Park for seven years. She explained that Hyrum is her destiny. ‘When I was in about 10th grade I started thinking about my life in the future and Hyrum’s name kept popping in my head, so I prayed about it. And I prayed about it clear til graduation. ‘I went in and talked to the Brethren about it and I said, “I feel like this is who I’m supposed to marryâ€. And they got back to me a few months later and they said, “this feels right to usâ€.’ Hyrum’s end of the betrothal was considerably less time consuming. ‘I got a call from the Brethren and they said, “we have a girl for you to marry and do you want itâ€. And I said yes and that’s how it went down.’ He has openly looked forward to his wedding and to the pleasures of marriage for years. Once the engagement was official the new couple talked on the phone before their first outing, a short hike to the site of Centennial Park’s future temple. There the two casually spoke about one day attending weddings of their grandchildren in that same spot. Hyrum and Kellie had just two weeks to get to know each other before they get married. ‘You make the commitment to each other before you even know each other,’ Hyrum explained to the cameras. ‘I hope Kellie and I have things in common. I hope she agrees in how I want to raise my children.’ Besides the fact that that it is kinda fucking nice to come to an agreement in things like that before marriage... every single sentence wants to make me pull my hair out. Virtual dating before meeting at the altar is the new six inches, fundies. You can shove your rulers up your up-does.
  18. Has anyone mentioned this fellow before? (A search of the FJ archive turned up nothing.) Tagline: "I'm a Reformed Predestinarian Polygynist (Polygamy) who would be regarded as a Paleo-Conservative, and a Constitutional Originalist, but would prefer Monarchy, just like Calvin." hughmcbryde.blogspot.com/ He was kicked off Biblical Families (an online support group for biblically motivated polygynists) back in March, which seems to take a certain measure of talent. Like many of the people we read, he is really into authority and submission. He was also kicked out of the OPC over polygyny and is trying to start a new denomination: (quote take from biblicalfamilies.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=2485&hilit=McBryde&start=10#p25293 ) I suspect you'll find him interesting in a "zuh? people really believe this?" sort of way.
  19. CTV is right now airing an episode of W5 that covers a polygamist cult in Ontario, near Owen Sound. I can't watch it all right now but I'm recording it for later, just wanted to give a heads up for others. Does anyone already know anything about Mormons in the area? ETA: Found this on their web site. http://www.ctvnews.ca/w5/allegations-of ... -1.1041913 Insane. This is right in my backyard, I would have never ever guessed.

  21. So I'm home sick today and just stumbled across an episode of Anderson. There's a couple who have been "dating" a woman they met on an online polygamy website and just met her in person on the show. Aside from the fact that I think the surprise meeting is cheesy, I'm intrigued by these websites. If I remember correctly, the poster from Megan's Polyblog met her family the same way. How common are these websites? And how do you just decide one day you want to try polygamy? These people also make me want to band my head--they decided to look into polygamy because of the Browns. Cause you know, reality TV is a good way to make life-altering decisions.
  22. There are three eleven minute videos to this set, apparently filmed by a young man who fled. It is interesting footage, I thought most of the FLDS homes in CC were ramshackle amalgams of trailers linked together. The compounds with the unfinished McMansions were a shock to me. From what the young man relates, homes are not taxed until 'finished', ergo the unfinished exteriors even on the largest of homes. I'll link to the first video rather than imbedding and you can follow with the rest. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hTv4zVyT ... ure=relmfu
  23. Dozens of mormons are planning a mass resignation from the church tomorrow. The reason why they are doing it comes from the church's political activism against gay marriage, teachings that conflict with science or are perceived to be racist or sexist, and inconsistencies of explaining their own history especially when it comes to polygamy. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/06/2 ... 37877.html
