    Future of FJ

When I heard the cancellation news I was so sad because my immediate thought was "what about FJ?!"
  2. I hope the mods will allow this to stay. After all, it's good to say "thank you" when people go above and beyond. I'm sure the past few days have been difficult at best and exhausting. Thank you so much for offering a place for all of us to comment and process. You do an outstanding job. And I hope you'll get some time with family and friends to rest and decompress. Again, thank you for all you do. And thanks to the owners of Free Jinger as well. -R
  3. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article ... -home.html Not breaking link because it's a mainstream site. Note: This may not be a complete or completely accurate timeline but people have been asking for a timeline and this one does detail what is known at present regarding Josh, the molestations, the letter, the email to Oprah, the actions by the Harpo staff, the inactions of the Duggar parents, the repeat of molestations a year later by Josh Duggar, the action to remove him to Gothard, and so forth. It also includes pregnancy/miscarriage dates for the family members.
  4. I'll admit that I am. Not entirely of course because I'm glad I'm not a Christian, and I wouldn't want to wear Wholesome wear for swimming, but in one way I am. I'm living away from my family now and it's lonely and I wish I had 18 brothers and sisters, even if I had to help them get dressed and cook for them, because I love people and I prefer being busy to be alone. I'm really envious that Jill got Jana to go with her to her midwifery training. I wish I had a sister who would go with me to my studies, that would be AWESOME. I don't even like going to the grocery store alone, and the Duggar girls don't have to. When I get married, I want to have bunch of children. Maybe not nineteen, but like at least five so that they will always have someone to play with and keep them company. Is there anything about the Duggars that you would like to replicate in your life or in your family?
  5. Hi guys! I am taking a communications course called The Ethics of Image Making, and for my final project I'm considering doing 19KAC. But I might need the help of you wonderful people. I do not want you to do research for me or anything. I just might need help with knowing if sources are available for certain bits of information, or if I should save my time. Example: The rice comment! Does anyone know what the source for this was, and if it has been removed? I tried googling it but it's not an easy thing to google and accurate results for. Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.
  6. I am sorry if this was posted before. I tried the search tool and recent posts. Anyway, Looks like the Duggars staged a fake charity event to help the homeless http://www.thehollywoodgossip.com/2015/ ... r-reality/ http://radaronline.com/photos/duggar-re ... o/1044142/
  7. People have mentioned how many TV families -- most notably, the Gosselins and the Honey Boo Boo clan, though I'm sure there are others -- tend to implode spectacularly under the pressure of being in the spotlight. And this phenomenon isn't limited to reality TV families; child stars, in general, seem to have a tough time of it psychologically, and they tend to start showing signs of trouble even before they're out of their teens (see Judy Garland, Drew Barrymore, Lindsay Lohan, Mary-Kate Olsen, Macaulay Culkin). But for the Duggars, things have been fairly placid, at least on the surface. None of the kids (and there are now eight who are 18 or older) have visibly rebelled against their parents in any significant way. And the show has been on the air almost seven years now. That's a long time for so many kids to be in the public eye without really departing from the fringy lifestyle they were raised in. It's remarkable, especially considering the low second-generation retention rates of cults in general. I wonder sometimes if we can credit their religious beliefs for this apparent stability -- totally independent of the religion's truth value. Obviously, the kids are pretty protected from the temptations of alcohol and drugs that have led so many performers astray. But I think there's something more than that: maybe that this belief system's emphasis on abnegating the self ("yourself last," having a servant's heart, "I am nothing without Christ," etc.) in part offsets the intense self-focus that generally accompanies fame and courts depression? Or maybe just that the "hedge of protection" has created such mental barriers that the kids no longer have the independent agency they would need to make their own mistakes? Or that this lifestyle forces them to get really good at shoving their pain down instead of externalizing it? I'm curious to hear your thoughts as to why the kids' course has run so apparently smooth thus far. (Of course, huge caveat here--things could start to unravel in a very public way down the line.)

    Show Ratings

Does anyone have the latest ratings for the show?
  9. http://www.people.com/article/tlc-19-ki ... sneek-peek I have a question for the medical FJers. - What constitutes a long seizure? What kind of damage can happen in seizures? From the article:
  10. So I love FJ because we all have different opinions on things the Duggars do or don't do. However, I think sometimes we often treat commonly held beliefs about the Duggars as hard and true facts (even when there isn't any evidence). So for fun, I thought I'd start a topic where we can share some of the "Widely Accepted Duggar Myths" here on FJ that we don't agree with. My personal favorite is that Jim Bob and Michelle won't let Jinger and Jana court because they need them as houseslaves. What unfounded Duggar facts do you disagree with? {Also! If you have hard evidence that supports one of these "Myths" please share!}

    Kids' Messy Hair

I wouldn't be surprised to learn that Jill, who was the one who obviously loved being around kids ALL the time, was the only one making certain the little ones were dressed nicely with their hair combed/brushed. Now that she's gone, no one else is bothering to make certain the kids are kept clean, even though most of them are old enough to be able to do so on their own. Maybe that is why she keeps inviting them over, so that she can at least make certain the girls's hair doesn't become a horrid's rat's nest of a mess.
  13. I'm not sure if this topic has been posted before but I was musing last night. In my case I'm not sure which sin they (Duggars) would hate the most. Would it be that I'm an ebil catholic or that I'm "reformed" and no longer attend any church?

    Best Parenting Moments

Ok everyone, show me the best (worst) examples of Michelle and Jim Bob's AMAZING parenting! From moments such as Jill admitting to having to.eat in the bathroom, to Jason falling in the orchestra pit and Michelle filming it with a smile on her face. Clips from YouTube or Vimeo are excellent or just point me to the episode. Also point out direct hypocrisies that can be evidenced by watching the show. Maybe where Michelle days they cover their knees and then a cap of Jessa walking around showing her knees? Lies too!!!! Point out lies in the show and evidence of the lie. Like when they claimed Ben moved to.Springdale after Mothers Day but Jess posted pictures of his goodbye party. I'm going to make a video about Duggar hypocrisy, one about.the lies, and one.about their stellar parenting skills. Then I will post them here for you all to see. But I need help putting it together!!!!

    Actually a matriarchy?

Here is a very weird question: Could it be that the Duggars are in fact a matriarchy? The daughters seem to run the household and seem to take part in the decision making. Without them there would have never been a show. the boys seem dull (except for Josiah who is being crushed right now). I have the feeling that JB does pretty much everything the girls want. Jill and Jessa both seem to be the dominant person in their relationships. Anna not so much but she is not a Duggar-Duggar. Michelle...I don't know, it could be both ways. She may have lost her mind to the extent that JB has to be the headship which he otherwise would not be?
  16. I don't we'll see big changes from Josh, Jill, or Jessa (although I can see her having big changes behind the scens but hiding it all). I'd give the Duggars about five years and then watch one of the middle kids (like anywhere from 7-13 to make a break for possibly non-fundy/mainstream Christian. The ones 14-19 would still be too young I think. I think Jana tows the line and marries quietly under courtship as well as John David. I don't think Jinger will flee to the big city. She seems ingrained. I don't expect all of the middle kids to make the break, but I think maybe at least two will start the ball rolling.
  17. So what is the deal in the last idk how many months, it seems like People exists to publish the Duggars. Fundies would not be your typical market for People magazine, so are the Duggars really selling issues? I notice that other shows that are heavily advertised on TLC do not have their cast in the media as much as the Duggars. Like Theresa Caput, the Long Island medium. Why are the Duggars in People so much and pop up on my yahoo all the darn time.
  18. I've been watching some old episodes on youtube and digging into archived threads a bit lately (work's been a bit slow). Lacking cable, I haven't seen all the episodes ever, though I've heard of some interesting scenes. For example, I really wish I could see JB trying to convert the guy in Scotland, Anna birthing on a toilet, or the family going to Israel. Alas, I have to wait until the youtube gods see fit to answer my prayers. Until that glorious day, though, I'd love to hear about your favorite Duggar moments, the good, the bad, and especially the ugly. What should I scour youtube to discover? What left marks (scars?) on your brain?
  19. My family is somewhat new to watching 19+C but here is something we've all noticed (other than obvious fundie lifestyle issues) the women are better looking than the men. The Duggar ladies are attractive and definitely have more defining features setting each one off from one another; whereas the Duggar guys all look like a copy of the gene pool. Not trying to be mean but am being honest, are we the only ones that have thought this? Next observation: Even though many of the Duggar clan are just becoming young men/women they all have an old/somewhat worn out look to them - I am calling this look the fundie lifestyle soul drain look. Examples: Josh is in upper 20's but looks to be 30 to early 30ish (aging quickly) and he already seems completely drained of energy at times or bored with his life; however, Anna after having several children has gotten to be pretty (face filled out nicely and she is no longer a scrawny looking girl). JD for being 25 looks very worn down (even though I know he is spiritually awake it doesn't shine out from him) for his age whereas twin sister, Jana, is a beautiful girl (inside and outside). Jill, Jessa and Jinger also have a spirit that spills forward from them; however at times, I feel that Jinger seems a bit drained as well and she is too young to have that look. Now onto Joseph and Josiah both young men and look their age for right now. They do have a spirit that shines through but I have a feeling that by the time they are in their mid 20's are going to resemble men 5+ years older. When TLC showed the pic of Josiah with girlfriend Marjorie, who is only 17, she looks to be 4 or 5 years older than her actual age. Maybe its because some people aren't photogenic (I fully admit this is me) or just the lighting/setting but they are mostly looking raggid for their ages. JB and Michelle look more alive than some of these kids do. Is it just my family with this question or do you think that the fundie lifestyle has drained the life out of some of them or is it the genepool or a bit of everything around? Not trying to be mean or disrespectful but it is what we see a lot of the time.
  20. So, Lifetime is making a series about that Lizzie Borden movie they did. I think, ignoring the logistics of getting away with murder in a house with 22 people, it'd be a fun game to play and take a vote on which Duggar kid you could see snapping and killing their parents. Though I suppose we could mix things up and make it a group effort between a few kids. I think Jana would have the easiest time getting away with it because people wouldn't suspect her. She's so good at keeping sweet and blending into the background.
  21. Of course, I want none of these kids to suffer or go through any sort of pain. They didn't choose this life, and they are just forced to go along with everything Mullet and Boob tell them. But, because of the abusive and restrictive Gothard lifestyle and having J'Chelle being emotionally vacant, it's going to leave some scars. That being said, which child do you think will have the hardest time in life? Which one of the 19 will have the easiest life?
  22. An article from Maclean's magazine: http://www.macleans.ca/culture/televisi ... -from-tlc/
  23. a service of the Duggar's homechurch? We know that the Duggars are members of a homechurch and they seem to head it because I read a few years ago that they are saving taxes by declaring their home a church. But why has tlc alwayd stayed quiet about it and never filmed anything regarding it? TLC has shot inside the Baptist Church that the Bates go to and when the Duggars were in Springdale the crew followed them to a local church but the 19 Kids and Counting viewer hasn't seen anything regarding the Arkansas homechurch yet.
  24. How much do you think the Duggars are making lately? They have the show, which I've heard generates $30,000+ per episode. Do the married ones get their own salary for being in the show? How much? Then there's the magazine covers, the books, the speaking engagements... I think Jessa & Jill are raking in the cash lately with the magazine covers. Jessa's doing a bunch of speaking engagements, I think she's a shrewd businesswoman and she's going for the $$ while she can. Thoughts?
  25. I'm new to the forum and in all honesty relatively new to 19+C. I've seen most of S9 and 10 and a few of the older versions in replay. My question is about what you see for the future of their home in 20 or so years from now. The house works for how they live today with all those kids. However, in 20+ years Josie will probably be married (and we may get the occasional TV special showing the family and where they are then) but who do you think will have the house? As JB & M get on in age, 20+ years gets them in their 70's, that is a large house to have to clean without the Jslaves. Granted they may have many grandkids visiting them often and helping out but that will only last so long as well. I'm not overly sure of the layout but I believe Mary has a room downstairs as she now lives there so do think that JB & M may eventually end up in that room (given that Mary may have passed on by then) or do you believe that they may hand the house over to another one of their children and family?
