  2. http://iblp.org/seminars-conferences/basic-seminar Pay attention around the 1:30 mark of the video. Note the "outcomes" of not curing yourself through God. Perversion? Really? Because it can't be said enough: FUCK YOU GOTHARD. The evil government will end up paying disability for many of his followers who can't deal with the perfection and the inevitable stress that his lifestyle demands. Hell, Mullet had a breakdown 12 kids ago and she had to be rescued to keep her sanity. Not that she's exactly stable these days. She needs meds beyond Boniva (or other osteoperosis meds she should have been taking years ago, but NOOOOO. Kids are like flowers. Being a black thumb gardener, I'm not surprised at the outcome of her brood, or that she denied pretty much every doctor's advice and had a dozen more. Just one example of why fundies are so sick. I know it's been said a zillion times around here, but many of us can attest to the fact that prayer doesn't cure a brain that misfires in ANY way. Gothard DEMEANS any kind of mental illness. Again, FUCK YOU GOTHARD. /born this way eta: They've done a nice job of taking the wrinkles out of an 80 year old guy's face, especially when other pictures depict him older. I guess Robert Staddon is earning his brownie points. *snicker*

  4. These go fast at the Fayetteville Hobby Lobby. Had no idea you could even buy a paddle like this anymore. Conveniently located in the decorative painting dept....
  5. This was odd. I thought they thought adoption was evil in the eyes of Gothard. http://www.traileraddict.com/trailer/october-baby/every-life-is-beautiful-the-duggars
  6. I was bored the other day and thought which actor would play Bill Gothard if a movie was made about his life. I was watching the old SNL episodes with Christopher Walken and I think he would be perfect. Anybody have thoughts?
  7. recoveringgrace.org/2012/07/how-to-spiritually-manipulate-young-people-in-six-easy-steps/ Apparently, if you enjoy reading a novel, that's bad because it steers you away from loving God. That's how Gothard gets those girls on Journey to the Heart to feel bad about themselves and make them see how "sinful" they are, when they're really not. These poor girls are so vulnerable that a simple questionnaire, like the one posted, could break any of them down. According to Gothard, any simple pleasure in life that doesn't involve God, makes you an awful and selfish person.
  8. While looking for more about Gothard and sexual harassment, I found this blog, a mostly satirical take on Wheaton College: http://wheatonheroes.blogspot.com/ Here is the page on Gothard: http://wheatonheroes.blogspot.com/2010/ ... y-495.html
  9. http://www.recoveringgrace.org/2012/04/ ... rotectors/ http://www.recoveringgrace.org/2012/04/ ... rs-part-2/ I have not posted fondly about Recovering Grace before now because I had no use for their very Christian spin on life post ATIA but I will give them huge props for the latest series of articles tackling sexual abuse within ATIA and Gothardite circles. Disclaimer: The links contain stories with graphic and potentially triggering content for sexual abuse survivors. I am posting this here because I want the pro-Gothard/Duggar/Bates/Fundie living readers to understand what they are supporting. This is what you are defending, people. Open your eyes. Updating links (assumed correct ones): http://www.recoveringgrace.org/2012/04/exploited-innocence/ http://www.recoveringgrace.org/2012/04/sexual-harassment-part-2-arent-you-making-too-big-an-issue-of-this/
  10. Has anyone read this one? This girl tells stories about how Gothard treated her and the girls there and made them uncomfortable. Does anyone know of this really happened? http://www.recoveringgrace.org/2012/04/ ... innocence/
  11. Because that makes sense... http://www.recoveringgrace.org/2012/04/character-sketches-or-sketchy-characters-dinah-and-tamar/#more
  12. are willing to admit. I am not the worlds biggest fan of RG but I think they are finally starting to get to the very real evil that the ATIA way of life allows to flourish. I have known other Xers who's stories read just as this one does. Molestation and incest was/is incredibly common in ATIA circles. I know of one woman who was repeatedly raped and abused. She appealed directly to Gothard for help to make it stop and he told her to go home to her abuser because the abuser was a godly man. This is what the Duggars are fronting for by supporting ATIA and Bill Gothard. Every time they promote some part of Gothards teachings, they are setting families up for horrendous failure. Shame on them. http://www.recoveringgrace.org/2012/04/ ... osecution/ eta: The link does take you to content that might be triggering for sexual abuse survivors.
  13. I read either on here or on TWOP that Jana is going to Gothard HQ to be a Journey of the Heart leader? Does this mean that she will be living in Chicago and working for Gothard, as Anna Keller did for 2 years before she married David? I don't know if this is true or a rumor- thanks for any information. Also, was it ever confirmed publically that Anna is pregnant? Last photo I saw of her, compared to her family reunion pictures on Susanna Keller's picasa ,she looks so pregnant that I wonder if she is having twins

    Bates in Peru with Gothard

So some of the Bates are in Peru with Gothard (and according to Baylee10 he paid for them to come) and there is a blog about the trip. The blog shows how crazy ATI is. Some of the craziest parts: The team went from there to a meeting with the top psychologist and discussed the idea of taking the principles contained in the 7 Deadly Stresses book and testing it on the patients and then documenting the results. Keep in mind that this is from a guy who claimed all psychological problems are caused by being selfish. Today we visited a Nursing School and spoke to the students there. They were very receptive to the message Mr. Gothard shared with them on Transforming Painful Memories and they are excited about implementing a stress resolution program in their school. I'm guessing stress resolution is his newest kick. The ALERT men had the opportunity to train over 200 security personal from the area. The men used the illustration of a river crossing to teach them vital character qualities that could increase their effectiveness in their place of work. The security people look bored out of their minds. After that, the team when to a home for guys. The ALERT men did a drill down with the group and many of the staff shared testimonies that really impacted the guys. What is a drill down? Today started with a visit to two of the largest hospitals in Lima and the regional director gave us a tour of the facilities. One of the patients visited was a little boy about 5 years old named Julio. He is suffering from brain paralysis which hinders his motor skills. He had just come out of a surgery in which a portion of his gut had been implanted into his brain and he was already showing signs of healing. The doctors cannot explain why that technique is working, but Mr. Gothard was able to share with them the mind and body connection. They are working on an agreement in which VERITY institute will be able to work with the hospitals on a stress evaluation program and document the results. WTF?! Medical Free Jingerians are going to have to explain the brain surgery to me. We also had the opportunity to meet with about 10 gang leaders at our hotel and share with them principles for success in life They are teaching gang leaders how to be successful? That doesn't sound like a good idea. teamperu12.blogspot.com/ I know last year someone here posted the blog for that year's Peru trip, does anyone remember it and if it was this crazy filled?
  15. I've greatly enjoyed the conversations since discovering Free Jinger a few months ago. It has also pushed me into researching Bill Gothard and his teachings further. The more I learn, the more frustrated I become. Why are we giving this cult a pass? We meaning viewers of TLC, the media, society as a whole? Keeping women undereducated (I would argue uneducated), robbing them of any option in adulthood other than keeping within the sect is abuse. Women being forced to blindly follow their husband in all matters - including personal grooming - is abuse. "Blanket training" babies is abuse. Being forced to submit to your husband sexually whenever it is demanded and bearing his children - no matter what physical harm it may do - is abuse. Not being able to wholly choose ones mate is abuse. Not being able tot participate in the "outside world" is abuse. Not being given personal space is abuse. Not being allowed the basic human need of autonomy is abuse. We are being duped b the "aw shucks" facade of The Duggars. Jim Bob comes off as a harmless, "redneck" with a few whackadoo ideas about God. He seems harmless. He is both the perfect distraction and spokesperson for Bill Gothard. He preaches his teachings but his goofy persona makes them palatable. The Florida Family Association spoke out against TLC's "All American Muslim" stating that it believed that it was "propaganda that riskily hides the Islamic agenda's clear and present danger to American liberties and traditional values." As a result of a bit of backlash, Lowe's pulled their ads. All American Muslim featured educated, independent women who had lives outside the home, their religion and their family. 19 Kids and Counting cannot boast the same. It is time Gothardism, and his favourite mouthpieces Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar, be exposed for their "propaganda that riskily hides the Gothard agenda's clear and present danger to American liberties and traditional values."
  16. Gothard preaches complete purity until marriage. Do you think he is actually "pure"? (as in never even kissed someone). After all, he's not married.
  17. An interesting rebuttal to Bill Gothard's latest letter to all past and current followers: ETA: http://www.recoveringgrace.org/2012/01/ ... l-gothard/
  18. I'm starting another thread because derailing the instagram thread wont be terribly productive. You stated: We're never going to agree on the abortion/fetus/baby issue but it does seem that there is something we can share - that Gothard is a false prophet and harms his followers (or perhaps I'm misunderstanding and you support him). So, lets talk. Specifically, what are your issues? How do you differentiate the Duggars and his teachings?
  19. I was trying to confirm what I've heard about Gothard being obsessed with "sodomites" (apparently he especially liked to discuss men's grooming and talk about which styles were those of sodomites), and I found this book: http://www.amazon.com/All-American-Boy- ... 0025953621 Has anyone here read it? It's by Scott Peck, a gay man the son of Colonel Fred Peck, who famously said in 1993 that he loved his gay son but he had no place in the military. (Here's an old article about it: http://www.nytimes.com/1993/05/17/us/su ... all&src=pm ). He apparently was involved with Gothard. Here's the link to the book on Google: http://books.google.com/books?id=mc9kCI ... &q&f=false You can read some of the book, including the chapter that starts on page 113 and discusses Gothard a bit. This was a long time ago and I'm sure things have changed a bit since, but it still shows a lot about the kind of education these kids are getting. "And Christians should not study other schools of thought or religion, particularly philosophy, because, brother Gothard assured us with a casual wave of his hand, Socrates and the other Greeks were rampant homosexuals.
  20. I found some pics on one of the Query girls facebook of a 'Journey to the Heart' retreat, and there were pictures of the girls kneeling with Priscilla's fiance and Bill Gothard himself with hands on them praying and such with the only description on the photo being "Anointing for Greater Works!" Was wondering if anyone could tell me what this process is for in Gothardism/ATI/IBLP etc? What it means etc. Is it basically the same as any blessing? <>
  21. That's what my iPad changed Bill Gothard to! Haha
  22. http://www.recoveringgrace.org/media/Le ... othard.pdf Latest from Bill Gothard and ATI. If you can stand to read it, please notice how he attempts to shoot down grace (perhaps due to the creation of the website Recovering Grace?) and then half assed asked those who are offended with him to contact him.
  23. I've been fascinated by religious cults, but there's got to be some sort of line I can't quite define between fundie and cult. Or would you say fundie-ism is a cult? I'm inclined to say that fundie-ism is a dangerous take on religious beliefs, whether Christian, Jewish, Muslim, or whatever, but isn't actually a cult per se. On the other hand, Bill Gothard seems to be the head of a cultic organization, using religion to trap people into the lifestyle of fundie-ism, with a otensibly secular branch to make everything outwardly all hunky-dory to the unsuspecting public. This is a partly philosophical, partly theological, and partly psychological question, and I'd be interested to see what others' take on this is.
  24. I commented on our favorite too-big family in TN (yes, I'm trying not to name them, keep us of their radar.). I asked why their boys are doing water sports in jeans and pants and if Gothard disallows wearing shorts. I said to my knowledge the verse in Isiah about nakedness has to do with the thigh being exposed, not the calf and that they'd be so much more comfortable and safer (ever tried to swim in jeans?? They are heavy!) in swim trunks. Several other people asked the same thing and she answered them, but totally deleted mine. I worked hard to sound sincere and kind. I think it's because I mentioned Gothard, implying they follow him more than the bible. I wasn't going to, but I just felt compelled to sneak that in there. I'm irritated that they deleted my post. I'm considering commenting asking why they did, but then they'll probably start moderating their comments before posting them and I don't want to be the one who gets them to do that. It's more fun to post comments and actually have them show up, at least temporarily.
