The Bible is a love letter!

So, a few weeks back, I posted a blog that's written by a 25 year old Christian loving girl. She's the wife of a an ex-Jump5 (Christian teen pop band) member and seems a bit fundie-lite in my opinion. She posted a new post, explaining how a love letter form your husband is similar to reading the Bible. According to her, reading the Bible gives you the same feelings as if you're reading a love letter from your spouse. Umm..am I the only one who feels a tad bit grossed out about that? I love God but I would never compare reading the Bhagavad Gita to reading a love letter from my boyfriend. For s
  2. http://ca.news.yahoo.com/blogs/daily-bu ... 21891.html seems pretty funny and interesting -- someone actually attempted it Updated link: http://www.slate.com/articles/double_x/doublex/2012/10/a_year_of_biblical_womanhood_rachel_held_evans_followed_the_bible_and_wrote.html
  3. Some time back, I heard Ian Frazier read parts of his LOL-funny essay Lamentations of the Father, and was happy to see that a friend had shared it on Facebook. Along with helpful creader comments such as and and and came the following pompous and humor-free douchebag: Fortunately, the following stalwarts came to the fore: and Very satisfyingly tied up.
  4. This one showed up in my feed on Facebook: "Yet she became more and more promiscuous as she recalled the days of her youth, when she was a prostitute in Egypt. There she lusted after her lovers, whose genitals were like those of donkeys and whose emission was like that of horses." - Ezekiel 23:19-20 I do NOT recall that one from Sunday School. What are some other good, random Bible verses? I want a collection of quotes that I can pick from, esp. with JesusWeen coming up. You may also apply your verse to your favorite Fundie(s).

11 things the bible bans but you do anyway

www.11points.com/Books/11_Things_The_Bi ... _Do_Anyway Found this today. I knew a lot of them from here and there, but there were a few I didn't know, like wearing blended fabrics is banned. So is wearing gold and men without testicles attending church. Apparently football too. I wonder what the fundies would think about some of the items on this list. All of those things I mentioned have probably happened in those circles.
  6. ... I don't think it means what you think it means. So Becky Fischer (she of Jesus Camp fame) has a youtube video. It's about what you'd expect if you've seen the movie. So she has this one video where she talks about how we know if texts have been altered over history. She manages to show that she knows nothing about Shakespeare. She also shows that she doesn't understand critiques of the Bible, as she confuses textual consistency for critiques on it's historical and scientific accuracy, as well as critiques on the accuracy of translation. The failure of people like this to unders
  7. After going in circles with scarygirl, I think that it is obvious to everyone that she has not read her own holy book. She is just one of many conservative/evangilical/funamentalist Chirstians who claim to be bible believers or bible literalists and yet haven't actually read the book through. If a person believes that a book contains the answer to life and everything in it, why the hell wouldn't they take the time to read the freaking thing? However, if it was only their own damned salvation that they worried about, it would be no big deal. If they don't care enough to sit down and
  8. This clunky overpriced thing is such a joke. But since the bible comes in so many versions on it I can't see fundies using it. foxnews.com/tech/2012/07/11/holy-ipad-slayer-company-releases-worlds-first-christian-tablet/

    Dinosaurs in the Bible?

I know I am new to the weird and strange fundie thinking, so I am sure this was discussed before. Did you know Dinos are in the Bible? Athough not called Dinosaurs... JOB: 41, Ps: 74:14 and Isa: 27, where they are referred to as "Leviathan". Those duggars might be right lol (sarcasm) Thoughts?

Maybe you can help - verses ignored by fundies

Some of you are former fundies, other just know the bible better than me. Here's my proposition (inspired by one of Josh's instagram photos). I am going to post similar things, but all verses that our favourite fundies have forgotten about or ignored. So can anyone please direct me to your favourite bible verses about loving everyone, helping everyone, being an all around non-bigoted human being with violent tendencies towards small children? Also if you come up with other verses you think are important just post them. (I'd have posted this in Josh's instagram thread bu

    AZ governor signs bible law

The course, which will be allowed in public and charter schools, is suppose to be about teaching how the bible influences Western culture but the ACLU in AZ is afraid that it will be abused by Christian teachers who will use this law to preach Christianity in the classroom. http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2 ... e-law.html

    State of the Bible 2012

The "good" news about the Good Book is that it's still the No. 1 seller of all time, with an estimated 6 billion copies sold. The not-so-good news though, according to a new survey by The American Bible Society, is that it's lost a bit of its prominence in affecting people's lives. And speaking of the biblical Deborah...

One of the posters over on the Drinking Sousewife/women lawyers thread brought up Deborah from the Bible, and lo and behold! Here is a fundie blogger explaining Deborah to us. Apparently, she's not supposed to be a good role model for women but rather something to shame men over their own inadequacy: growinghomeblog.com/2012/04/what-about-deborah.html I heard a lot of wacky Bible interpretation growing up in fundie land, but this is a new one on me. From my totally unscientific Google search, this seems to be a rather popular theory out there in fundieland.

    Banned FRom the bible

I was looking through the tv guide and saw a show called "banned from the bible" ofcourse I missed it. I started googling instead and found this article http://voices.yahoo.com/5-books-were-ba ... 99207.html Why would books get banned from the bible? Are christians afraid of being wrong so anything that is considering contradictory and makes it sound as if God didn't write it taken out even though they say the bible is gods word? thoughts?

    Bible verses on groceries

A friend of mine just sent me this link about food companies that put Bible verses on food labels. I'm not breaking the link since it's to a news channel's website: http://www.whnt.com/news/huntsvilleandm ... 5348.story The money they waste on printing those verses could be used to, oh, I don't know, feeding the hungry! :eusa-think:

The Bible being used to 'justify' things

Grrrrrrr! One of the things I've really learned in the past twelve months is that people can use the Bible to seemingly back up most any position they can think of, to suit their needs and all the while fooling themselves into thinking it's really 'God's way'. This morning my sister M was having a bad day (she has emotional problems, probably from being taught that the world would end), and exclaimed in irritation at having found a mess on the floor that hadn't been cleaned up in two days. My mother made her clean it up, knowing full well that M hates housework and that M has emoti
  23. I was a weird Christian. The most beautiful verses to me were not the ones that describe how Christ saved me but ones like these in Mathew 25. Verses like these are part of the reason that I still have respect for Christianity. Many years ago, I asked several people why our Independent Baptist Church never did anything to help those in poverty. You would have thought that I had asked people to eat poop. Repeatedly I was warned against putting works first. This confused me because Jesus plainly said to help the poor, love others, turn the cheek and not judge. Eventually I discovered

    That Old Black Bible

I found this... interesting: http://thatoldblackbible.blogspot.com/ Okay, this guy is part of IFBC (and has poor grammar skills for proof), so I understand why he would favor King James Version. But do they really believe that this is the TRUE version? And all other "counterfeits" are of the Devil? This is complete ludicrous to me, and I don't understand the reasoning. 1) King James version is just that- a version. It's translated from Hebrew and Greek. But aren't the other versions too? Not to mention, it's only a couple of hund
