It's also seems to be causing shorter attention spans in children. When I did early intervention most kids would get a therapist that passed the time with ipads but then that child also ended up with an OT. I've studied kids a bit and limiting screen time is crucial.

John David and Abbie 7: Happiness Continues

Hundreds of kids' books have been in our home. Many of them came from yard sales. They have nearly all been passed on to other kids, some via yard sales... no regrets. Some of the favorites still linger in various children's rooms.

Dillards 75: Keep the Food Out of the Bathroom

So relieved this wasn't a pregnancy annoucement! That looks like a nice sized yard for the boys. Why with the handprint and the Jill and Derick forever. Are they 15? Good luck their new neighbors! Watch out if you get invited over for dinner,

I like their house, it is a nice simple design and I think with it not being huge and only having 2 or 3 bedrooms they believe that they probably won't have a huge family. I still think if they can they will have one or two more, I think Jill will at least want to try for a girl. I do think they have used money left from Derrick's dad, saving's from the show and maybe some of their earnings from doing promotion's online to pay for some of the build but they must have got money from elsewhere as well.

  8. This is the same vacation, I mean mission, that gave us Slutgate. During a phone call, Precious Nurie told her mama that the ladies in Botswana wear skirts and hardly any of them wore "sluttish" pants like American women. Jill was bursting with pride...until the backlash. Then she promptly threw Nurie under the bus.

I just did a lit review of the research on problematic social media use for my boss & other behavioral health leadership in my department. It was somewhat eye-opening. While it's debatable whether there is such a thing as social networking site (SNS) addiction, there is empirical evidence of some very real threats to mental health well-being with inappropriate use. The jury is still out on the exact nature of the relationship between of problematic social media use and psychiatric disorders. For example, there is a correlation between problematic use and depression, but it is not clear whether misuse is a consequence of a pre-disposing depression or whether misuse leads to depressive symptoms. It's probably bi-directional, but there's not a lot of solid research yet. Despite the controversy over classifying problematic SNS use as an addictive disorder, there is a growing body of literature that presents evidence for viewing it as a behavioral disorder similar to gambling disorder. Unfortunately, there is little research on prevention or treatment of SNS addiction. There is some interesting research on SNS use that used magnetic resonance imaging to investigate changes in neural systems of the brain. The study concluded that excess social media use is associated with a reduction in gray matter volume in the reward system (amygdala-striatial). One of the issues raised by the study, however, is how to quantify "excess" social media use.

They bought it, or Cathy bought it?? My guess is that Derick has money from when his dad passed. He's not a spendthrift and maybe they've been living off his savings? But, do they have a mortgage? How do you qualify for a loan if you don't have jobs? Cathy might have stepped in with a big down payment. It looks like the boys might have the opportunity to have friends in the neighborhood. I hope the Dills are not asshole neighbors. Its about 15 mins or so from the TTH.

Ooh, what's your plan, if you don't mind telling me? The one thing I would like to have is the ability to get directions when I do get lost. But I can't justify spending $80 a month just for that.

This house seems very small to me. 2 bedrooms, 3 max. ... I wonder if this is a sign that they won‘t or can‘t add more children to the quiver... Even if it wasn‘t that expensive to build, would they build a home if they knew, that they will easily outgrow it in a couple of years (when there are more and more kids)? (btw long time lurker first time poster. You are entertaining me for years, thank you!)

My thirteen year old self would've loved this... particularly the bubble writing and the VERY SOPHISTICATED foreign languages. My thirtysomething self is giving a big eye roll.

That book sounds interesting, @Seahorse Wrangler. I'll have to check it out! This might be a good place to ask - I'm looking for book recommendations on Queen Victoria. I've recently started to read more about her, and I'd love some really good fictional novels on her.

How can they afford to build a house on zero salary? An inexpensive house still costs money to build. Also what's up with the gazillion Bible verses?

My kid loves books. He's 1 and as soon as we go into his room the first thing he does is go straight to the stacks of books. I keep a running Amazon wishlist for him specifically for grandparents because I hate getting useless gifts. I would rather people not buy him anything than buy him junk I need to throw away. He's so little he doesn't need much so I try to always keep useful things he does NEED. Things like a new lifejacket (we live on a beach/marina and boat all the time), red wagon, shoes, toys for specific milestone ages, etc. Thankfully most of our friends have kids of similar ages so they know the best things to buy as gifts. I have a strict "no clothes" policy unless it's something I've put on the wishlist. I'm super picky about my kids clothing, it's pretty much the one thing I'm a parenting diva about and the one kid thing I spend a good chunk of money on. We wear a lot of classic southern kids clothes - jon jons, bubbles, smocked outfits, and his "everyday" clothes are also pretty specific because I hate things with characters, writing, or crap that says "mommy's best guy". My ILs specifically have horrible taste in children's clothes are were buying him so much ugly crap I would never put him in, they finally caught on that he never wore it and stopped buying him clothes as gifts.

Alyssa & John 2: Getting By on Their Looks and Fashion Sense

I used to feel that way about cleaning cat litter boxes. After cleaning 15 or more litter boxes because I was getting paid to, I'd come home and look at my cats' 2 boxes and think, "Ugh. Not another one. Maybe it can wait one day." I love my cats, so I didn't usually put it off forever , but I was less motivated than I am nowadays, when I don't get paid to do that anymore.

Lady Lydia: Still Living in an Alternate Universe

One would think someone who enjoyed sewing so much would take the time to learn how to set in a sleeve properly. The sleeves on her dresses always look like crap; they aren't even the same on both sides. Lydia, if you are reading here, you need to make two rows of basting stitch from one notch to the other along the sleeve cap, one right on the seam line and another just inside that line in the seam allowance. Then, pull both to create the ease, making sure the gathers are evenly spaced from one end of the basting to the other. And that's basting as in setting the stitch length on your machine to 6 stitches per inch, not hand-basting. No, I don't sew. I have the time and the money to do so but I don't enjoy it. And I have, from my career days, enough dresses to last me, if not the rest of my life, for at least the next 10 years or so. My jeans are all very close to needing replacement, though.

@formergothardite Did you see her horse poem? i don't know if I should be disgusted after the way she neglected her own horse, or crack up laughing after the line about "leading the pack." Predators have packs, prey animals have herds. I have images of canivorous horses running people down.

  24. Count me in as one of the people who stood up to her. I actually met her and established an online presence with her. During this time, I didn't post on FJ. I can't remember which debacle it was, but I took her to task and didn't hold back at all. I had disagreed with her on her FB page and she banned me. I unleashed on her in a private message. She, of course, was in complete denial of everything I pointed out, then cried persecution.
