  1. Past hour
  2. Sometimes it is as simple as "cousin Johnny is doing karate and I want it too". Or they saw a new karate class in their co-op and wanted to join.
  3. Pretty sure hs slept through most of it, he'll just have to watch the footage to catch up.
  4. Today
  5. Haha! Every night they pile on the bed with me and I read aloud to them and it's my favorite part of the day. But it is amazing how much stuff they need to bring with them! Stuffed animals, toy trains, those damn Legos... and they always leave it behind! Plus the just-turned-one-year-old figured out how to climb out of his crib onto our bed and has decided that means we are co-sleeping. The cat is usually there too. I guess some day I'll miss it when the kids grow up!
  6. 3 are married to Helferichs and 2 are married to Bowers. If that doesn't scream arranged, I don't know what does.

    Harry & Meghan 17: St Meghan's Hagiography

Their dukedom and titles aren't that important anymore. They don't carry large amounts of land or power anymore like they did in the past. Their percived importance and fame comes with Harry being the son of the british king. That doesn't change with taking away their titles and would give them more fodder to whine about. And honestly, if Harry has expressed that he considers the US his home now, who cares. He quiet his royal job, isn't on the public payroll anymore and moved out of his home country. So far so boring. He is still a british citizen and isn't activily harming his country of birth, so taking away the titles would be an act of a petty family feud.
  8. Apparently the jury selection proces went way too fast for him, so he's appealing straight away in a blatant attempt at delay.
  9. Quick version: does anyone here have a good resource or understanding of when, why, and/or how opposition to drag performances for children became a "church issue"? I've searched back here and the first FJ mentions of drag queen story hour seem to be from mid-2019. Which tracks for me because anti-drag sentiment was not a thing I noticed until the last few years. My Baptist pastor father watched Some Like it Hot with me when I was in middle school! My peers watched Mrs Doubtfire! I learned (very neutrally) about the history of only male performers being allowed in the past and so needing to dress as women, etc. Long version: I host a drag storytime (not affiliated with the Drag Story Hour organization and not called drag storytime because I'm in a somewhat conservative area) at my bookstore once a month. This week we discovered that one of our vendors is a bigot and we will no longer be working with them. Which is fine. I'm mostly annoyed that we didn't find out their stance sooner. We've been hosting this for over half a year, not secretly at all, and they only just now claim to have noticed 🙄 Their issue is with this one hour a month when a local drag queen comes in (perfectly child-appropriate) costume and reads picture books to children about acceptance and whatever other books the children choose from the shelves after the first 2-3. This vendor claims that they oppose drag story time because that's what "the church teaches" but since when??? And why? And how did this shift even happen? I had thought it was mostly political, not being preached from pulpits. No doubt using the verse about not dressing in another gender's clothing, but then why was drag seemingly ignored for so long? I absolutely have occasionally looked into the issue before, I didn't come to host this event completely naively, but now I feel a pressing need to really dig into what happened and I'm coming up with almost nothing explaining this phenomenon in a cohesive way. The only thing I can figure after having read here for so many years is that there was some sort of convergence. Something between folks my age (born in the 1980s) becoming parents and the fact that they seem to have often been raised with the culture warrior sort of ideas, which were abhorrent to my father (he's always been a huge proponent of the separation of church and state because he's studied history). Add in the Trumpian open bigotry to that and maybe this is what we get? Surely someone has already researched, analyzed, and written about this? Thank you for reading if you got through most or all of that! I appreciate greatly any insight y'all might have. I'm also autistic so sometimes obvious things to others aren't obvious to me until someone states them clearly, so even if the answers seem obvious, I still would appreciate them ❤️

    M is for Mama 17

She was debating parenting with a secular psychologist. She prepped for months, not because she needed it, oh no. She prepped so she could be drenched in scripture. She sounds so stupid. Part of me wants to listen but I can't stand her voice. Abbie gets tons of messages from panicked young moms who think they aren't doing things right. Maybe it's because shitty people like Abbie are always telling parents what to do. She has no clue whatsoever that she's a part of the problem. God, her smug face is insufferable.

Sadly it hasn't worked for Paul Gosart in Arizona. It seems like we hear from his family members whenever he's up for reelection and still Arizona keeps sending him back to Congress.
  15. I'm curious if it is through the co-op or the instructor comes to the house (like the swim teacher). It seems an odd choice. I wonder who chose it since the girls were all announcing activities they wanted to do and none mentioned karate.
  16. I am very pleasantly surprised that the girls are taking karate. That does not seem to fit activities that I think fundy girls would be allowed to participate in.

Fair enough. I still can't understand why any lawyer would want to represent him. Even if you favor his "republican" causes. He's notorious for being difficult, not listening to his lawyers, and the whole rest of your career will be tied to this one case for good or ill.

Does Jinger even know who Mel Gibson is?
  19. Yeah, so sad. She had to tell him who Layla and Zade were. And he didn't acknowledge a picture Layla drew for him. Poor Jane.
  20. Carlin posted a story on instagram today where she is telling Papa Bill her name. She is so kind about it. It has to be heartbreaking though.

  25. He was more than big. He was their "scholar in residence." He spoke at the big history conferences and Titanic events, went on the European and Greek tours. He had stuff for sale all over the catalog. He and Joe Morecraft were Doug's right hand men at a lot of those big events.

Wow his statement today was very subdued and lacking in name calling. Is poor baby tired from sitting?? I find this fart thing so difficult to believe....I believe it...but it's just hard to believe that this is what's going on with a former president. Is he like my gramma who does any number of hygienically questionable things because I think she's just past caring and lives alone and doesn't even notice she does those things? Does he literally think his farts don't stink? Has he just never been forced to sit somewhere on somebody else's timeline and push came to shove? I hate that this is something I have sitting in my mind. Those of you who pay attention to this depth - are these lawyers any better than his E Jean Carroll lawyers (who seemed to be constantly making stupid mistakes) ? I'm glad this judge seems to actually be pushing back on his lawyer's nonsense with the gazillions of motions and some of the little things that have come out. But I'm holding my breath on how monday goes. I expect trump to do trumpy things and push boundaries and if this judge lets it slide on monday I can't imagine him reigning it in later on. And I believe monday we hear about gag order stuff?
