Thankfully no one was hurt (because you know those kids aren't going to the doctor) and Lisa was able to salvage some of her oils. Really. She said that. There was a lot of smoke and water damage to the house and their belongings, and the family has been staying in a kind neighbor's house while they clean and rebuild.

A house fire is a terrible for anyone,  but I imagine this is a particularly difficult experience for Lisa, who appears to be obsessive about her house and her household. She's already mentioned cleaning and organizing their temporary home and enlisting "the boys" to help. FYI, applying and inhaling essential oils will help you not get sick from inhaling fumes from a fire.

I have to say Lisa looks 1000% better without access to her Magnolia Pearl-strewn wardrobe.

What kind of adult thinks it's OK to have begging be the default option? I have donated to GFMs for funeral expenses when a death was unexpected, and for catastrophic medical expenses. But $400 for a website? Why doesn't she just get a job and save the money herself? Or, if she and her husband really object to her working outside the home, why don't they live on a shoestring until they have saved up the $400? Where is the shame? I'd be mortified to be asking strangers for money for an expense that was entirely my own responsibility.

Could this be our Lisa Pennington? Looks like she has a book coming out in September about how to be a good mom even when your life apparently frustrates you. The truly weird thing is that she's being published by David C. Cook, a pretty mainstream evangelical publisher. I wonder if they know all about the Alecia Pennington saga.

Per her "Help Me Prove It" Facebook page, Alecia Faith Pennington is now the proud owner of a physical copy of her birth certificate, only 19 (?) years after James and Lisa Pennington should have taken care of that basic little parenting chore.

...my parents believe in religious marriage and not civil. The boys in my family are expected to find wives who will go along with all this. As you can imagine, I think this will be quite difficult for them to do! As far as a job... I can't say I have any idea how they plan for my brothers to support their families. And I'm not even sure my brothers realize what kind of a situation this puts them in. I'm afraid for them and their futures.

What's it like living under their roof? It is very controlled, restricted, and dysfunctional. Even though I am in a very rough situation outside of their home, I wouldn't go back for anything.

Our relationship is at a stand still. I would say that I have done all I can to repair things between us, and they would say they have done all they can. We simply cannot rebuild it with such drastic differences in our views of how things work in a parent to adult child relationship. Also, I will admit I have a hard time being around them after the impact their actions/decisions have had on me, my life, and those who support me.

There are hundreds of other things, but these are it's a few examples of what it was like:

We all had to be up at 7:00 in the morning and at the breakfast table in their assigned seats by 7:30, dressed and prepared for the day. The children had assigned tasks to keep the flow of house running each day. I cooked the meals, planned the weekly menu, and did the grocery shopping, and worked in my mom's shop. My siblings chores included the laundry, schooling my younger siblings, keeping the house spotless, and feeding the farm animals. Each homeschool high school graduated child had to work 8 hours a day for my parents in exchange for living there -- but we were not allowed to get a job or move out.

There were strict rules on what we could wear. Girls must only wear skirts that fell below the knee, collars to the neck, no sleeveless. The boys were never allowed shirtless even for swimming.

My father turned the Internet on from 9:00 in the morning (sometimes noon) until 9:00 at night. At 18 years old, I was only allowed on Instagram, Pinterest, and emailing pre-approved friends. All movies and books had to be previewed by my parents before we could watch/read it.

We were kept secluded and rarely saw friends. When we did have families over, it was very difficult to talk or get to really know one another because of the control my parents exercised in what we could say or do. Even like or dislike.

I eventually realized something had to change, and my life was going nowhere despite my attempts. So I decided to do something about it. That is when I left. Then later realized I still couldn't because of the identification abuse.

Faith, your tenaciousness in the face of all this bullshit and abuse is impressive. And I hope it's OK to say that, while I don't ever condone the use of physical force...the urge to smack your parents is strong in me right now. Continued best wishes to you.

Horrible person. I wonder how far back her online presence goes? It sounds like Alecia doesn't need it now, but I'm really curious if someone could use old blog posts going back to childhood to help establish identity? I wonder if anyone has tried something like that?

I wish I could believe that her parents will choose to follow the law. Unfortunately my feeling is that they will delay by any means legal or not in an effort to prevent her from becoming independent, or at the very least in an effort to drain her and her supportive family members of all possible resources. I hope I'm wrong.

One of the Pennington kids was stung by an insect and had a severe allergic reaction.

1. On the way to the hospital Lisa, driving separately, pulled over to post on FB about it and ask for prayers.

2. Apparently he started doing better once arriving at the hospital AND THEY NEVER TOOK HIM IN. Reading between the lines, they gave him benadryl, sat in the parking lot, and "called a pharmacist".

3. All her commenting friends told her to get an epi pen, dang it, and she responded - "yes we agree, we just are trying to figure out how".

4. Do you know when it's hard to get an epi pen for your kid? When you don't want to take them into the hospital and you don't want to take them to a PCP because you DON'T WANT THEM TO HAVE ANY RECORDS.

No wonder they are so hooked on their essential snake oils. They're depending on that for medical care so they stay out of the system. I guess you have to have some delusional safety net to live that way and convince yourself you're still a good parent.

"I'm been tired and feeling low and pretty much taking naps between my naps for 2 days... I actually wondered if I would be able to get up at all. I did sleep an extra 30 minutes on Saturday."

Wonder if her kids get that luxury? Waiting for a post from her to say "My kids and adult kids had a sleep-in instead of a sleep-over. Aren't we creative?!"

Oh yeah; while she went on her morning constitutional, her kids made her breakfast, and then "After that we kind of all go our own direction for the day [Read] Me, I took a nap. Then I did a LOT of writing and ended the day with another nap before bed."

Apparently 6 of the Pennington children remaining at home do not have birth certificates. As this piece made clear, there are no penalties for not registering a birth, although it is a legal requirement in Texas to do so.

A bill currently in the Texas legislature would add penalties for not registering a birth. There was a brief appearance by James Pennington saying he thought the penalties in the new bill were "draconian" and the issue was already addressed by current law. Apparently he isn't clear on the problems his daughter is encountering, or maybe he is and thinks the status quo works just fine. I'm betting on the latter.

Alecia Faith, as you might imagine, is a well spoken young woman. She has a lawyer working on this and her grandmother says they have put in thousands of hours trying to sort this out. I can only imagine how horrible and frustrating this would be for someone totally without resources, financial or otherwise.

The very worst part is that for many, the court will issue a birth certificate but the supporting documentation used will not be recognized as valid for receiving a Social Security number or US passport.

7. There are less ways to waste your money. Young Living slaps different labels on the same thing. Don't you want a beautiful rainbow display for your newly-remodeled master bathroom?
