How to not fall afoul of FJ's rules and and stay out of the Prayer Closet.

Questions

Links Must Include Context

If you are posting a link, you must have some sort of description of the contents of the link, and their relevance to the discussion. Failure to do so will result in pointed warnings.

Members who abuse the "spirit" of the reputation system will be placed in JTTH where they are not allowed to see or use the reputation system.

FJ being a forum relies on people using their words.  While the reputation system (and downvotes specifically) is meant to curtail some of the piling on that can happen when a bunch of members push back against another member's opinion, using it as some kind of "retaliation" is not the intended use.

If a member is posting while giving a bunch of downvotes or other negative  reactions that is fine.  A member who does nothing but downvote every post in a thread or chasing someone around the forum downvoting all their posts is using the system other than for its intended use and will no longer be allowed.

This rule does not mean you will be put on JTTH if you downvote or react negatively to posts.  This is for members (usually in problem threads) that have no other participation on the forum other than giving negative reputation reactions.

Don't ask about down votes in the threads

No one owes anyone an explanation for downvotes and they can be given for any reason, from serious disagreement to an avatar that doesn't amuse you.  Don't ask about down votes in the threads - that's not drift it's disruption.  Also remember that people accidentally downvote when on mobile so if it happens and there is no other reason to believe your post is objectionable do everyone a favor and let it go

Who are the staff at Free Jinger?

You can find a list of the current staff at http://www.freejinger.org/staff.

Bitch Eating Crackers (BEC) Comments

Keep BEC comments to a minimum

Please keep the majority of your comments/snark based on the beliefs/ideology/philosophy of the people who you are speaking about.   It is natural for a snark site to have some "bitch eating crackers" (BEC*) type commentary and that is fine, but please make it the exception, not the rule.

*BEC =/= snark.  If you don't understand the difference ask!

Do Not Diagnose Children

Do Not Diagnose Children.  Full Stop.

Please do not internet armchair diagnose children from pictures, videos, or comments of others.   Most of these kids have no control over anything in their environment and no say in whether their lives are up for public consumption.   The last thing they need is to google themselves down the road and find out a bunch of strangers on the internet think they were on the autism spectrum or some other random diagnosis.

Rules for Blogs and Galleries

Blog and Gallery Guidelines

Each member may have one (1) blog and one (1) gallery.  the same TOU/Guidelines apply to both of these member privileges.  If you are a member of a group blog or gallery you may still have one (1) personal blog and/or gallery.  Please do not hotlinik to any images on either your blog or gallery.  If you want to post an image, please save it to your hard drive and upload it to our server.   Please properly credit any images to which you do not own the copyright.

Note: Blogs are viable to  the general public

Thread Drift Is Allowed

Thread Drift is Allowed

Thread drift is a part of the Free Jinger culture.  Please do not whine/complain about threads being off topic, ask people to take off topic talk elsewhere or report off topic posts.  Your posts will be hidden.  If posts are derailing the thread (vs being natural thread drift) a helpmeet will move the post(s) to the proper forum or start a new thread for the topic.  Please don't respond to posts whining/complaining about thread drift.  Just report the post so a helpmeet can hide it and we don't have 5 pages of people arguing about whether thread drift is allowed or not.

Offsite Interaction

Offsite Interactions

We have no desire to control our member's off-site interactions and/or behavior.  We do get to control the types of things that are talked about here, however.   Please do not post accounts of trolling a fundie's blog, driving by houses, going through their trash, etc.         Do what you want on your own time, but giving an audience to that kind of thing is not the place FJ wants to be.  Please be careful that you do not interact in such a way as to give the impression you are a representative of Free Jinger.

If you go to a public event, you are free to post your summary of that event or your interactions there.   If you do attend a public event, don't present yourself as a representative of FJ.

Do not flounce unless you're actually leaving

Don't threaten to flounce (and then not do it)

Please do not threaten to flounce repeatedly (or say things like this is my last post and then continue to post multiple times, in the same thread, in a short period of time).   This is annoying, attention seeking and disrupts threads.   This does not include the one off "joke" type I'm flouncing comments.

If you post that you are flouncing and continue posting with additional flounce comments, the following sanctions will begin:

1st offense: A no point warning

2nd offense: 3 point warning

3rd offense: Banned from thread for 48 hours

4th offense: 48 hours in the Prayer Closet or JTTH (helpmeet choice)

5th offense: 72 hour full site ban (to give you some time to cool down and regain perspective

Do not claim you are going to "be banned"

Do Not Suggest You Will Be Banned

DO NOT suggest that the Admin Team should "ban you for having a different opinion." It is well known that we do not ban people on Free Jinger for things other than having a sock or egregious disruption of the forum. Having a differing opinion is NEVER going to get you banned. However, baiting any member of the Admin Team to ban you, will earn you a one way ticket to the Prayer Closet, so you can feel the persecution complex you apparently desire.

Do not use text speak

No Text Speak

Please do not use "text speech."   We are not twitter and you are allowed to use all your words here!

Do not abuse mods/admins while they are working in an official capacity

Do Not Abuse The Administrative Team For Doing Their Job

Members who send abusive, vulgar, nasty, rude, etc PMs or emails to any member of the administrative team (admins and helpmeets) in response to an official warning or other official duty will be given a 3 point warning and a 72 hour forum ban so they have time to take a walk outside and gain some perspective on their reaction to something that happened on an internet forum.

Members who continue to re-offend after their 72 hour ban has lifted will be permanently  banned if they continue to escalate interactions with any member of the administrative team.  These are not the type of members we want on Free Jinger.

Leave the kids out of it

Leave the kids out of it

DO NOT speculate on aspects of minor children's lives.  This includes, but is not limited to discussion on things like physical development, their sex lives, their disabilities (real or perceived), etc.  Some general discussion of minor children will be allowed, but the majority of the discussion should be about the adults.  These kids did not consent to their lives being put up for public consumption, so please think how you would feel if someone was saying these types of things about your own child.  If you wouldn't say it about your own child, please don't say it about the minor children of the people we follow.

Even if you would say it about your own child, if it violates the above don't post it here.

Do not discuss downvoting in the threads

No one owes anyone an explanation for downvotes and they can be given for any reason, from serious disagreement to an avatar that doesn't amuse you.  Don't ask about down votes in the threads - that's not drift it's disruption.  Also remember that people accidentally downvote when on mobile so if it happens and there is no other reason to believe your post is objectionable do everyone a favor and let it go.

Tech Support

If you're having problems or just need information on how to do something and still have questions after checking the FAQ please post in the Tech Support forum. A member of the Tech Support Team will be happy to assist you.

Complaining about technical issues on random threads may not be seen by those in a position to help you and makes the tech team cranky when they find out you've been whining about something they could have helped you with.

Do not link to hate sites

No links to hate sites

Due to the climate since the 2016 election, we are currently not allowing links to websites that are considered hate sites or alt-right sites.   Examples of these sites are Stor*f*ont, Breitbart and Infowars.  You can find a more complete list as the SPLC

Spoiler tags in discussions of media

Use of spoiler tags - TV Shows

We live recap several tv shows so spoiler tags in threads devoted to specific shows are not required.  If you are going to post about a show which has not been aired in all time zones on your blog, your status or threads not specifically devoted to that show, please use a spoiler tag so people can avoid spoilers if they want to.

Do not link to illegal sites or the dark web

Do Not link to illegal sites

Please do not link to or name sites which provide illegal or copyrighted content, etc..  This includes but is not limited to torrents, warez, hacks, cracks, the dark web, and streaming sites which host copyrighted content without permission.

Community Discussion:   FJ policies, culture, etc.

Discussion of FJ policies

Discussion regarding Free Jinger guidelines, ToU, board culture, and general discussion should take place in Community Discussion so as not to derail threads.  Any member can start a thread in Community Discussion. If posts on these topics are made outside of Community Discussion, a helpmeet will move the post(s) to an existing thread, if appropriate, or make a new thread in Community Discussion.

Multiple images in posts must be under spoilers

Use of spoiler tag - Images

Please use a spoiler tag if you post more than two (2) images in a post.  Excessive images in a post makes reading on mobile devices miserable.  Members will be given a  zero (0) point warning for the first offense and pointed warnings for subsequent posts.  On occasion there are threads that are specifically started for the sharing of images, these threads are exempt from this rule.

This rule does not apply to blogs or status updates.

Emotional Vampires and Trolls

Emotional Vampires/Trolls may be asked for information to verify their identity.  Any information given to/found by admins will be kept confidential.  If the information we find does not correspond to information being related on FJ, the member will be asked to stop posting personal information designed to draw in community members.  If the member continues, they will be put on a JTTH or banned at the discretion of the owner..

Do not post "I agree" and such

Do not post things like "I agree"

Please use the "like" button rather than posting things like "I agree," "agree," "this," "+1," just an emoticon/emoji and other posts of this nature. This is what the like button is for and people will understand you agree with them by using this feature. Occasional short posts are okay and we do realize that sometimes a very short post is used to make a point or a joke and that is fine. These types of posts should not make up the majority of your posts. A zero (0) point warning will be given to posts where the like button would suffice. Repeat violations will incur pointed violations.

Moving/Renaming Posts/Threads

Threads may be renamed or merged

Threads may be renamed or merged at the discretion of the helpmeets.

Threads and posts may be moved by Helpmeets

If a Helpmeet determines that a thread is better suited to a different forum, it will be moved. No shadow topic will be left in the original forum, so if your post goes missing, have a look around. You can track your posts by clicking on your username and clicking search users posts

Hate Speech / Hate Symbols

Hate speech is not allowed on Free Jinger. While we value free speech, this is a privately owned site and this matter is not up for debate. FJ will NOT be considered a hate site because some people can't control themselves.

Hate speech is defined as speech that offends, threatens, or insults groups, based on race, color, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, disability, or other traits.

This means we do NOT tolerate the use of words like nigger, faggot (or fag unless you are from a country that uses that term for cigarettes and are using it in that manner), retard or retarded, gay as an insult (ie: that is so gay), etc.

The fact that I had to make this an actual rule disappoints me greatly. There will be ONE warning given for violation of this rule. If that warning is ignored, the member will be placed on an indefinite Journey To The Heart until they realize they are not the special snowflakes they think they are.

No symbols of hate

Avatars, cover photos and blog headers may not include “symbols of hate.” This includes swastikas. Yes, we know that they were good luck symbols before being appropriated by the Nazis. Today, they are considered a symbol of hate and not allowed here. They will be deleted without any notice, just like any other symbol of hate. For further information see: http://www.nytimes.com/2010/07/29/us/29hate.html?_r=0 and http://archive.adl.org/hate_symbols/default.asp

Avatar, cover photo and blog header guidelines

Avatars, cover photos and blog headers may be used. Avatars cannot exceed 120x120 pixels. You can upload avatars, cover photos and blog headers or link to them from off-site (no hotlinking). No animated/moving avatars. Avatars, cover photos and blog headers that violate the TOU will be deleted.

Repeated use of images that violate the ToU will result in loss of ability to change these images and you will be given a default image made for people that have problems following rules.  It will also earn you a trip to JTTH.

No Threats of Violence

No threats of violence

Threats of violence against anyone or illegal activity will result in immediate banning from Free Jinger. “I could kick them” is not a threat of violence. “I am going to blow up their house” is an example of what not to do.

You must be age of majority to be a member

Please observe all of the Terms of Use. This especially includes the part where you MUST BE OF THE LEGAL AGE OF MAJORITY IN THE PLACE YOU RESIDE. Most places, that is 18, except for Alabama, where the age is 19. If we find out you are under the age of majority, your account will be suspended until you reach the age of majority.

We do not delete accounts

Accounts at Free Jinger are like cockroaches - they last forever. We do not delete account profiles or posts. If you have a compelling reason, we may archive certain posts so they are not available for viewing. Being upset because someone was mean to you is not a compelling reason.

Choose your username cautiously

Choose your username cautiously - it is yours forever. We do not change them unless there is a good reason. Username changes are made at the discretion of Curious. Do not register a new account to change your username. This is against the rules and will get you banned for being a sock. If you find you have a typo in your username after you register, send a PM to one of the Admins and they will correct it for you.

No socks or multiple accounts

No sock puppets or multiple accounts, including deactivated accounts. Socks may be outed or possibly beaten with plumbing line (banned). Those who use socks to troll or otherwise harass members will be banned. If you are locked out of your account or if multiple people who reside at your house use Free Jinger, email the admins,

No signatures

Signatures of any kind are not allowed on Free Jinger forum.  This includes "signing" your posts on the forum. You may have a signature or "tag line" on blog posts.

If you use Tapatalk, please make sure your signature is turned off.  Tapatalk has a tendency to turn signatures back on after updates, so please remember to check your settings after updates.

A zero (0) point warning will be given for the first offense.  Further offenses will be given pointed warnings (we do give an additional free warning after Tapatalk updates for people who have turned their signatures off in the past).

Animated .gifs must be behind a spoiler tag

Animated .gifs are allowed in the main body of posts, but they MUST be hidden behind a spoiler tag. Warnings will be given to members that forget to use the spoiler tag. Intentional disruption by repeated refusal to use the spoiler tag, despite warnings, will land members in The Prayer Closet for some time to reflect on their actions.

The internet is forever!

Please remember that the internet is forever, and that includes FJ. If you post something of a personal or embarrassing nature in  the AYTFJ,IMM forum, it will be viewable by anyone with 75 posts. It will be viable to anyone who in the future racks up 75 posts . It is not private, and it is no longer under your control. If you later regret oversharing, you will have to figure out how to deal with it because it will not be deleted.

We do not allow google to crawl private/member only forums.

No Doxxing/Private Information Allowed

Do NOT post private information about individuals. Private information includes, but is not limited to,  information gleaned from private Facebook pages, private message boards or forums, invite only blogs and other private sources, UNLESS the individual in question verifies with an admin or media relations that posting such info here is ok. That is the only way such info is allowed. Unverified third party posting is absolutely unacceptable in all circumstances.

Information from mailing lists and newsletters that anyone can sign up to receive without approval/vetting from the author can be posted.

Paraphrasing is allowed. If you are facebook friends with a fundie, you can say “I saw so and so is pregnant.” You cannot share pictures and a birth story.  Describing an in-person meeting you had with a person we follow is fine. It is a first person narrative of your own experience. A member posting Facebook conversation with a Fundie in which they are peppering the fundie with questions is not the same. There is no way of knowing if the person answering on the other end is even really the fundie, for example. It is not the same type of experience.

If you think you recognize someone from another forum or from real life, please send a PM rather than asking them on the public areas of the forum.

No speculation on victims of sexual assault/incest/molestation/rape

DO NOT speculate on the identity of any victims/survivors or incest/molestation/rape/sexual assault.

Unless a victim or survivor has put their identity into the public sphere as a victim of a sexual assault, do not speculate on whether they may be a victim.

Posts containing speculation of this type will be hidden or redacted, depending on the other content in the post.  If you see a post that contains this type of speculation, please report it.  We can read every post in every thread, so we do rely on community self-policing.

We respect the agency of victims of sexual assault and will not be part of thrusting them into the spotlight they may not want any part of.   There will be one zero point warning given for this offense.  Any repeat offenses will result in a trip to the Prayer Closet for an indefinite period of time.

No speculation on the sexual orientation of minor children and kidults

Do NOT post speculation concerning the sexual orientation of any minor children or adult children still living in their parental homes. These kids have no say in their lives being put out for public consumption and their lives are hard enough without their homophobic parents getting the idea from us that one of their children may be gay. Users who are unable to abide by this rule after warnings have been issued will be placed on a Journey to the Heart to consider their actions.

Account Deactivation/Reactivacation

We will deactivate your account on your request, either permanently or for a predetermined time period.  If you would like to reactive a deactivated or inactive account, log in to your account and post in the available forum asking to be reactivated.  You can also email the admins.

Posts must be in English

Posts must be written in English. Occasional words/phrases/sentences in other languages, or translations of material from other sites to English is acceptable, but since we must enforce TOU, we also must be able to understand what is being said.

No fan fiction or real person fan fiction

Free Jinger does not allow the posting of Fan Fiction or Real Person fiction.

Fan fiction is fiction about fictional characters, written by fans. Real person (fan) fiction is fiction about real people, also written by fans.

If  a post says made up things, with the semblance of a plot or dialogue, about the folks we snark on, as though such things were true, that's real person fanfic.

Disruptive Members

Posters who are deemed disruptive to the forum will be placed on restricted status.

Members in the Prayer Closet will have their posts reviewed by a helpmeet and only be approved if they are on topic.

Members on a Journey to the Heart (JTTH) will be unable to PM, will lose access to AYTFJ, cannot start topics and cannot change their avatar or location. Any posts made will be reviewed by a helpmeet and only approved if they are on topic to the discussion.

NSFW Images and Links

Please do not post NSFW (not safe for work) images on Free Jinger.  This includes images with partial nudity.   If you are posting a link that is NSFW, please identify this in the thread title or noted in the post prior to the link.

This is a zero tolerance issue and will begin with a three (3) point warning with the first offense.

Do not impersonate another person

This is in violation of our terms of use:  Impersonation of another individual.

This includes, but is not limited to using their name as your user name, stating that you are said person, implying that you are said person, etc.
