Yawn

I was trying to be a less outwardly negative person, but that's not really working so fuck it.

A certain company I use for my data and phones at work (rhymes with Bombast) was doing maintenance on our usage area last night between 2:00 and 5:00 AM today.  This affected over 350,000 customers many of which are businesses.  Many of those businesses have it set up, like me, to forward calls to a cell phone in case of service going down.

I'm the default on this because I'm the one who needs to know immediately when the system is down.  When it happens during business hours I swap it out to someone who doesn't completely suck at the phones and isn't busy dealing with the issue, but in the middle of the night those calls are all me all the time.  yay.

When they test their maintenance they ring the lines.  When the lines are down it rings those cell phones.  So I got a great night's sleep being woken on average every 20 minutes from 2:00 AM on.

My bleery call to their tech support after the first one where I discovered the phones/data were down was fun for both of us as I was incoherent and he nicely reminded me that I had an email notifying me of the outage...which I did...I just didn't remember when jolted out of bed at 2:00 am by a screamingly loud ringtone.  I was really nice though - I'm always

(Very deep sleeper and nature of my job is to be available 24/7 so I sleep with my phone in a alarm clock dock specially chosen due to volume way past 11.  My husband is really happy with my career choices this morning as I'm sure he's dragging ass, too.)

I'm not the only IT in the area that looks like this today, I'm sure.

(disclaimer - this isn't a disgruntled, entitled 'omg I'm so persecuted' rant.  Not even a rant, just a 'not that aggravated' whine.  This is just part of the job, totally get that, and it's a rare occurrence so I know I have no grounds to whine about it...just sleepy and cranky.)

Very true.  So being reminded it was just maintenance meant I didn't have to drive to work in my jammies was great.  I asked him to kill the forwarding until maintenance was over but of course not possible during testing.  I considered putting in a request to skip forwarding for maintenance stuff going forward but it's SO rare and them messing up settings isn't rare and I was afraid it would result in it being turned off in all instances.

I don’t remember the phrase Tawny Owl being used, but I can remember the woman who would have used that title, as it were.

Not a fundie- but the other day a Michigan state rep tweeted a picture of a couple buses leaving the Detroit airport, wondering where the “illegal invaders” were being bussed to.

The “illegal invaders” were the Gonzaga men’s basketball team, who had just arrived in Detroit for their regional semifinal matchup.

Dude gets exposed and his response is basically, “STFU you communist.”

He’s also an election denier who has predicted another civil war.

Erica has two associations for me. One is Erika Shupe, and the other is that it was the name of the “Brown Owl” of my Brownie Guides group when I joined. Brown Owl is the traditional name given to the main leader of a Brownie unit here in the UK. I remember she always had her hair in a single long plait down her back.

We use Brown Owl for the main leader in Canada too and Tawny Owl for second in command.

I am a Brown Owl! In Ireland, but was also a Tawny Owl in the UK. I love being Brown Owl and the whole story that goes with it.

i think she announced it’d be Amaree,

My guess was Arrow Canaan on the Baby Names Thread. Her boy names follow an ACC pattern & don't have cutesy spellings. Since there's not much with the aforementioned pattern, that's what lead me to my guess.
