I love my sister

For this entry, I'm not copying out anything written. This is a story my sister told me and I hope I remembered it fairly accurately.

Once, there was a woman who was stuck in a flood. She climbed onto the roof of her house and prayed. "Dear God, Please save me from this flood!"

Soon, a man in a boat came by. "Get in and I'll take you to safety!" he yelled. The woman yelled back, "No! I'm waiting for God to save me!"

A bit later, an inner tube floated by her. "No," she said to herself, "I believe God will save me."

Then, a log floated by. Again, she chose to wait for God to save her.

Then, she drowned. When she met God in heaven, she asked Him, "Lord, I prayed for your help. I waited faithfully for You to save me from the flood. Why didn't you save me?"

God replied, "I tried to save you. I sent a man in a boat and then an inner tube and even a log."

For a little context, my sister told me this story after I told her I was going to see a psychologist for help with my clinical depression. I wasn't sure what she would think about counseling, when she believes people can be healed through prayer. (Most days, I also believe that God answers prayers. I also believe that the answer can be, "No" and that an answer of "No" doesn't mean that God doesn't love the person or that the person lacks sufficient faith to be healed.) She told me the story and said that she believes God can use lots of different ways to help people. She also reassured me that depression doesn't mean that I'm not a Christian or that God doesn't love me. I have an awesome sister.

This is horrible advice. There are absolutely times in your life when you are more ready to have a baby than others. I had my first at 30 and I can tell you I was about a million times more ready than when I was 18. Would she say the same for a 12 year old who was pregnant from rape? Probably. She’s that ridiculous.

I’ve read some disturbing online commentary about kids who were homeschooled for years, but then for some reason had to go to public school. Some of them got argumentative and confrontational when taught things different from what they were taught at home. Some of these involved math, where correct answers can easily be proven—but God forbid someone tells Homeschooling Mommy she’s wrong.

What else can anyone expect? You've been warned all your life that public school aims to brainwash kids. Disbelief is basically a sin. Deviating from what Mom and Pop said means you're going to hell forever. The only options you have are walling up and lashing out.

Doug seems to be on damage control. I don't know if he got himself invited on Tucker Carlson, or if TC extended the honor. Lots of defense of Christian Nationalism, no mention of the church's abuse scandals.

He also held a Q & A session at the University of Idaho that some are speculating was mostly Kirk members in the audience throwing him softball questions.

(Fun tangent: The entirety of "Southern Slavery as it Was" was published in the "War Between The States" textbook that first Vision Forum and then Western Conservatory used to carry. The Western Conservatory edition of the book's been scanned into the Wayback Machine, "mutual affection" and everything.)

Ethyl kennedy had 5 csections,  including Rory who was born after Bobby’s assassination.

I had 3 sections. Elisabeth was huge, and transverse/diagonal, never would have made it. Rebecca was ordinary size but at 5 months, I ruptured my uterine ligaments and had 4 months bedrest. Soooooo c section. Then James was a section, since I’d had 2 and I nearly died  from the anesthesia. Damn that was scary. I heard numbers go lower and lower and the dr saying push fluids and everything swirled around me.. so got my tubes tied before I left the OR.

I get the impression the Bontrager marriages are semi-arranged. Marlin and the other patriarch decide two of their kids would be a good match, tell the kids to pray about each other as potential mates, and start planning the wedding. I don’t think Marlin would force his kids to marry anyone they didn’t get along with, but he sees parental approval as more important than romantic love.
