Coloring Supplies ~ Gel Pens ~ Part 2

Curious

Originally the gel pens post was not supposed to have 2 parts, but when I was looking up the links to the pens I already had I had a little...uh...problem.  I found a whole bunch of gel pens I hadn't seen before, so in the interest of keeping you all informed about the coloring supplies I *had* to order them so I could let you know how they work.

It's not an addiction.  It's for science!

So here is part 2 of gel pens.

q?_encoding=UTF8&ASIN=B0013DRJIO&Format=ir?t=frejin-20&l=as2&o=1&a=B0013DRJIOSakura 37460 10-Piece Gelly Roll Blister Card Assorted Color Medium Point Gel Ink Pen Setir?t=frejin-20&l=as2&o=1&a=B0013DRJIO

Like all Sakura products these pens are very nice.  I do find they are slightly less covering than the other sets for some reason, though.  They are great for small areas, but not as nice as the other sets for coloring larger areas.  I'm unsure why they are different, but since they are essentially primary type colors, I'm fine using them for small areas and a different pen/marker for larger, background type areas.   I would order them again.

q?_encoding=UTF8&ASIN=B001LXK5HS&Format=ir?t=frejin-20&l=as2&o=1&a=B001LXK5HSSakura 57370 10-Piece Gelly Roll Blister Card Assorted Colors Metallic Gel Ink Pen Setir?t=frejin-20&l=as2&o=1&a=B001LXK5HS

This is a fun set.  The colors are bright and the metallic effect shows up really nicely.  They are super smooth like all Sakura products that I've tried so far.  They do take a moment to dry so you need to be careful not to drag your hand over an area that you have just colored.   The metallic effect does tend to "stick" to your hand even after they are dry, but I find this with most pens that I have.   I pretty much have permanent "glitter hand."   It does wipe off with just a plain tissue or cloth.   I would definitely order these again.

q?_encoding=UTF8&ASIN=B00W7BNIOK&Format=ir?t=frejin-20&l=as2&o=1&a=B00W7BNIOKSargent Art 22-1500 10-count Metallic Gel Pensir?t=frejin-20&l=as2&o=1&a=B00W7BNIOK

I'm a sucker for metallic/glitter pens, so I had to give these a try.   They are great.  They are very smooth and work even for larger areas without leaving horrible streaks.  They are slightly muted colors.  More like a matte finish than a really bright color.  The colors tend to be a little darker than the pen barrel would lead you to believe, but once you figure out the colors it's easy enough.  I would buy these again.

q?_encoding=UTF8&ASIN=B00W7BNIE0&Format=ir?t=frejin-20&l=as2&o=1&a=B00W7BNIE0Sargent Art 22-1502 10-count Fluorescent Gel Pensir?t=frejin-20&l=as2&o=1&a=B00W7BNIE0

I'm also a sucker for fluorescent colors because I love the bright, vibrant colors.  These do not disappoint.   The yellow is particularly nice in this set, IMO.   I have a hard time finding yellows that show up like I would like them to and this yellow is definitely fluorescent yellow.  They are nice and smooth and fill large areas easily.  I would buy them again.

q?_encoding=UTF8&ASIN=B000N71IPQ&Format=ir?t=frejin-20&l=as2&o=1&a=B000N71IPQSakura 37904 6-Piece Gelly Roll Assorted Colors Stardust Meteor Pen Setir?t=frejin-20&l=as2&o=1&a=B000N71IPQ

These pens are nice pastels, but aren't so light that they don't work well with other pens.   They are smooth as silk like all Sakura products that I have purchased.  I would buy them again.

q?_encoding=UTF8&ASIN=B000S14PFM&Format=ir?t=frejin-20&l=as2&o=1&a=B000S14PFMSakura 38370 10-Piece Blister Card Glaze Assorted Color 3-Dimensional Glossy Ink Pen Set, Brightir?t=frejin-20&l=as2&o=1&a=B000S14PFM

I haven't had a chance to use these pens very much yet.   They are interesting, though.  The colors are beautiful.  They come with a colorless blender type pen to help with the 3d effect, but I haven't tried that yet.  I just used them as straight up colors for testing.   These do take a LONG time to dry.  It does warn you on the packaging about that so it wasn't a real shock to me, but I'd say it was probably 10 minutes to be fully dry.   They are very smooth and I'm sure they will cover large areas well, even though I haven't really used them for anything like a background yet.   There are several other sets with different colors, but I wanted to try them out before ordering a bunch of different sets in case I didn't like them.    As some of my other pens run out and I have more room in my pen tub, I will absolutely be trying other sets of these.

Thanks for all of this info @Curious.  In a way it is extremely helpful because I can't wait to order some gel pens, and know nothing about them. In another way, however, it is not helpful at all because I want them all!  Glitter, metallic, fluorescent, STARDUST(!), beautiful colours?  Yes please!  :changing_color_heart:

I have a little problem.  My pen/marker tub is FULL.  Like no more room for even 1 more pen full.   I can't go to a bigger tub because of space limitations and I'd venture to guess the one I have is already over my weight limit (5 pounds).

But there are pens I don't have yet that I neeeeeeeed!

Like the ones @Tikobaby listed and several more of the glaze style.

I don't want to have to deal with TWO pen tubs and even as much as I color, I've never had a pen run out of ink so far (they will at some point, of course), so it's not like I can just use pens up quickly and make more room.

Thank you for the reviews.  I love gel pens, brush pens, alcohol art markers, colored pencils. ...I have three craft totes full of stuff.  And I am always on the look out for more... :-)

There's a nice zip-up nylon Prismacolor marker case on Amazon that holds 24 markers, Curious. Inexpensive too.  I love mine and am about to buy another one.

I just got the first set you posted! I love them! I really want the large set of Gelly Roll pens (78, I think), but they're sold out on Amazon right now.

Oh, do you have any of the Fiskar's gel pens? They don't last as long, but they're (much) cheaper and work great!

I don't have the fiskars because I read a lot of reviews and most of them suggested that they don't last very long, so I didn't get them.  I was disappointed because Fiskars is a great brand for most stuff and they looked really good.

When I have room, I may pick up a set just to see how they are.

As much as I color, I have yet to have a pen run out yet.

Not a fundie- but the other day a Michigan state rep tweeted a picture of a couple buses leaving the Detroit airport, wondering where the “illegal invaders” were being bussed to.

The “illegal invaders” were the Gonzaga men’s basketball team, who had just arrived in Detroit for their regional semifinal matchup.

Dude gets exposed and his response is basically, “STFU you communist.”

He’s also an election denier who has predicted another civil war.

Erica has two associations for me. One is Erika Shupe, and the other is that it was the name of the “Brown Owl” of my Brownie Guides group when I joined. Brown Owl is the traditional name given to the main leader of a Brownie unit here in the UK. I remember she always had her hair in a single long plait down her back.

We use Brown Owl for the main leader in Canada too and Tawny Owl for second in command.

I am a Brown Owl! In Ireland, but was also a Tawny Owl in the UK. I love being Brown Owl and the whole story that goes with it.

i think she announced it’d be Amaree,

My guess was Arrow Canaan on the Baby Names Thread. Her boy names follow an ACC pattern & don't have cutesy spellings. Since there's not much with the aforementioned pattern, that's what lead me to my guess.

I don’t think she announced it on her social media yet. I think she might’ve let it slip when ordering something with the baby’s name on it.

Gotcha.  I don’t follow her but see reddit posts about her and couldn’t remember where I saw the name.

If it is Amaree, it’s the first “non-noun as a name” name for awhile, right,  I can’t remember them all—anchor, armor, anthym, aynjel, are the four I remember that are other words.  Then andre, arissa (is is anissa?), anniston (i will never be convinced it’s not after jennifer anniston).  So I’m missing 3.

Anyway, lucky kid gets a normal name if it’s amaree
