Cultural appropriation? Nah...just deliciousness.
I know what you're wondering...what's for dinner at Buffy's tonight? A veritable blending of cultures is what's for dinner.
A little backstory...my brother in law is of Serbian descent. He and my sister married when I was nine and he was a fixture in our family long before that...he's far more brother than in-law. We adore him and his family was our extended family, so while I am not ethnically Serbian at all I grew up going to their church picnics and festivals and developing s deep and abiding love for cevapcici.
pronounced cheh-wop-chee-chee. Or in our family, slop chops...because tiny me couldn't pronounce it and renamed them. So adoreable!
They are a sausage, the only one I love, and they taste kind of like gyro meat but better. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ćevapi
They are so good they need no condiments at all. You would appreciate the significance of that statement if you knew the depth of my slavish devotion to ketchup. (I have some in my purse for emergencies.)
Mr. Buffy went about an hour north to pick some up because he allegedly had a craving, but between us I think he wanted to open up his new car on the expressway...either way we have a fridge full of yumminess so I'm not quibbling. (South suburbs suck when it comes to delis and butchers.)
what did we serve with this delightful treat? Kraft Mac and Cheese. It's a rather obscure side dish from my own ethnic background of suburban America
And cranberry pop because...refreshing!
So this is my impersonation of a food blogger! Im not great at it, it's like I went to the Christopher Maxwell school of photography. Although I never intend to teach anyone anything in this blog I will share something I learned while cooking...the voice in our smoke alarm sounds a lot, but not exactly, like Siri. They sound related.
