Fuck You, Taco Bell

Maggie Mae

So I just found out that Taco Bell (probably my favorite of any national chain drive through "restaurants") is axing most of their vegetarian items - including the 7 layer burrito. I don't go to Taco Bell often, but when I did I always ordered a 7 layer burrito. (Or a crunchwrap with a million modifications.)

It's been my go-to since 1996. I have recommend Taco Bell to vegetarians for years - they have always been excellent toward the non-meat eating crowd (of which I am no longer a member of, but have spent at least 10 years with a "nothing with a face" type diet).

This is not making my day of bad news better. (Cat is old and needs three types of meds mixed with his food to manage his various conditions, the SO is being grumpy, end of UE + extra money, exponentially growing covid-19 cases,

I know. I know. I have a shit ton of privilege when my biggest concerns (other than my ridiculously expensive Manx - not the cat, he was free, ongoing maintenance) are "which camp site do we want" and "WTF Taco Bell, I hate you." and "Unemployment is boring when you can't even go to the gym."

Still, I think it's just a garbage decision, especially since Taco Bell will still have all the ingredients to make a 7-layer burrito. I guess I'll have to order something like a "beef burrito, sub beans for meat, add rice, guacamole and sour cream"

I have no idea why Taco Bell would this. I haven't eaten there in years. When I did a 7 layer burrito was almost always what I ordered. I am not a vegetarian. It was just better than their other stuff.

I so rarely go there that I feel like I can't be that mad about it but I am. I also am not currently a vegetarian but I pretty much always eat veggie at TB. My guess is that they weren't making enough profit on it, with sour cream and guac being expensive. They are also getting rid of the potatoes which I don't think I've ever had, and a few other things. They lost a lot of money during the pandemic, as they make their biggest profits in the after-bar crowd, but since bars are closed, I guess they need to cut costs?

But seriously snail is SOOOOO good. Maybe the texture is not for everyone (because it is similar to seafoods), but as far as taste goes, it is not strong or overbearing at all. It will usually taste like whatever sauce they are cooked with. Why do we often see this trope on American TV that escargot is slimy and disgusting?

And I've had crickets. It is pretty much the same as with snail. The crickets I tried were a bit nutty and smoked, but nothing horrible or too intense. Considering it is usually served with sauce (or I had some dipped in chocolate), the main taste is the condiment. :confusion-shrug:

I've had snails professionally prepared twice, and they were really good. The 1st time I was skittish, but after that, nah they really are good. I'll have them again given the chance.  As for crickets? UGH I'm terrified of them alive, not sure I could eat them .

Gary tells them about the man who texted to criticize him after watching one of the Groton videos, and says "Ah wanna find him so bad - in mah flesh - but ah wanna find him so bad, and beat the name of God at him. And see if ah can beat God IN him, amen."

But of course, Gary won't obey his flesh.

Hm. This is not doing anything to lessen my conviction that Gary was violent in his first marriage. If that is your first response to criticism, and you are willing to admit it publically... you should probably get some anger management advice and strategies. I'm glad Gary's newfoundish Salvation is reducing his need to go out and assault people to prove that only he has the One True Faith... but if I were Becky or Jacob I wouldn't be relying on it.

I just can't get past the mental block of eww bugs, GROSS, but bugs make me soooo squeamish.

ETA the thought of crunching bugs just makes me nauseous. It's just me individually, but I can't get past it.
