Same Game, Different Laptop: The Whittakers

So my laptop went stupid, again. I think the battery needs replacing.

My mum kindly lent me her laptop (which she doesn't really use) and I downloaded Origin/Sims 4.

My first port of call was to create the Whittakers! The little family consists of Mark and Julia and their kitten, Lily, who's a calico.

Julia is a Nerd Brain, which involves becoming very good at Logic and Handiness. She also enjoys video games!

But where's Lily....?

She's so teeny! Unlike in Sims 2 and Sims 3 Pets, you can create a kitten in CAS. You could adopt a kitten in 2 and 3, but not create one yourself.

Just like with Vincent Powell, Mark is a wannabe chef.

They bought Lily a comfy bed... but she's a cat, so she's sleeping outdoors. At least it's on grass rather than hard concrete...

Off to work as an astronaut!

Finally, Lily's sleeping in her cat bed...

Ta da! She's a big girl now!

Uh oh, Lily started eating the vegetable dumplings...

The Whittakers live in Willow Creek. Their home's Lot Traits are Chef's Kitchen, Great Soil (helps with Gardening) and Science Lair (Logic and Rocket Science).

This bizarre-looking contraption is a cupcake machine, although it can also produce various other baked goods with the Baking skill (Cooking skill is for the cupcakes, and the Baking skill produces stuff like doughnuts, muffins and tarts).

Mmm, lemon gelato...

Cats and their choice of sleeping spots...

Lily started randomly meowing, with hearts round her. After a quick google, it turned out she was in heat. This is also new to Sims 4. You also have the option of getting your cats spayed/neutered... I haven't got round to that yet.

So, they adopted Olly! And it seems like the two cats got on well! No kittens appeared; I have no idea if this screenshot captured mating or not.

Aside from the usual festivals (Love Day, Harvest Fest, Winter Fest, New Years) you also get random holidays pop up. The first random holiday was Season Premiere Day, which I've not had before. The show was called Game of Llamas (a lot of the books Sims can read have got titles that reference pop culture, eg Lord of the Swings, Darley Porter and the Basement of Shadows by U.K. Englishlady :laughing-rollingyellow:and The Bladder Games, among others).

Both Mark and Julia were working on Love Day, so they had to wait until late to get their traditions in (each holiday has various traditions, and you can get various moodlets depending on how many you complete).

Which expansion packs do you have? I love building houses in the sims 4 (and not really having the mood to actually play rn...) and if you'd like I could make you something :chu:

Expansions: Seasons, Cats and Dogs, City Living, Get to Work.

I also have various game/stuff packs: My First Pet Stuff, Parenthood, Dine Out, Toddler Stuff, Backyard Stuff, Kids Room Stuff, Spooky Stuff, Outdoor Retreat, Cool Kitchen Stuff, Holiday Celebration Stuff.

A house build would be awesome! I'm not much of an architect when it comes to The Sims.  :text-thankyouyellow:

I don't have many of those game/stuff packs, but I'll whip out something! I'll leave enough room for you to add your own things. I always use bb.moveobjects too, and playtest my builds to make sure no sim gets stuck... hahaha. How many bedrooms (and beds) do you want and is there a budget?

What's the age that a lot of schools let you go for free?  That's probably the age I'd want to go.  I'm too busy making a living in my own way and hopefully raising a family soon.  I can do that at 30.  I can't start that at 65, at least not as easily.  If I'm 65 or something and my classes are free, I'd probably go for a degree in social science...  for fun, I guess, because I don't think graduate degrees are free at any age.

I don't know of any schools that allow people to attend for free based on age, but my university has a drastically reduced rate for people 60+ years old. It's about half of the regular rate. This is a private school, I'm not sure whether state schools do similar things - if they do it would end up being very cheap.

Attending higher education in the US is a financial decision. I don't think you need to feel guilty about making a practical financial choice - I wish it weren't so dependent on finances, but that's the reality of it. If you have the means and time to go back to school when you're older, go for it!

Anyone see John's latest IG story of a row of guns/riles, captioned with #trump2020?

The wilfull ignorance of the tRump+evangelical marriage is astonishing to me. There is nothing religious about him, other than his pandering.

Fundies must be proud that they are so easily entrapped in someone else's agenda.

And, ew. The awfulness of the Mortons is no surprise, never ending.

The Mortons aren’t the only ones. They just seem to be the most loud and proud. I would wager that 90% of the fundies we talk about on fj voted for trump.

The younger Mortons have all attended Trump rally's. They are all big MAGA folk - like most fundies. They  might have started to allow their women to wear pants but they hold all the same fundie beliefs they always did.

Public transportation is super convenient but you lose out on fresh air and nature.

To be fair if we don't make improvements to our consumption of fossil fuels fresh air and nature is going to be a moot point in not too long.   Climate change is a thing.
