Fall 2017: First toy bought at an animal fair. First time held a Chihuahua.
January 29th 2018: Gave a list of breeders to my mother so that she could call them.
January 31th 2018: My Mum had a two hour phone call with our future breeder.
August 26th 2018: First visit to the breeder. First time seeing Kiki, who arrived there one day earlier. At that time not knowing she would be ours.
May 5th 2019: We got the mail that Kiki would be a suitable dog for me.
May 26th 2019: First time meeting Kiki for real.
To be continued...

Kiki Luna.
Born May 16th 2018.

I'm not good at waiting for something. We knew that they would arrive between 10am and 11am. I spend that hour behind our window in the stairway. Of course they came at exact 11am, so I waited an hour. Earlier in the morning we drove to a bakery in the neighbour village to get some brezels and buns. We got the table ready and I made sure that her future toys would be there and a fish like play tunnel I got very cheap a while ago. We were standing outside the house when they arrived. Current doggie and now big sister spend the day at my grandparents.

She was a bit shy for the first few minutes, but then she quickly overcame that. While talking outside our neighbours walked past and she did great. She greeted them friendly, but not overly friendly (she is not that type of dog who instantly runs to someone). We then went inside to have cake and snacks and so that she could recover a bit from the car ride. She was carried up the stairs by her breeder. Our breeder thinks that a couple of stairs is okay, but she feels like too many of them are not good for so little dogs.

After that we went for a walk. It was a very sunny, beautiful day and also the elections for the European parliament were happening yesterday so a lot of people also walked to the polling station nearby. I can't count how many people we saw. Many who we knew so we had to stop and talk to quite a lot people. Kiki did great. When we walked past a horse farm type of thing their dog came out and we stopped and talked to the owner a quite a while. It was a Collie, like Lassie. She is around the same age as Kiki but obviously a lot bigger. Kiki was not so sure at first but friendly. Jandra (the Collie) got down to her level to meet her which was amazing to see. There was a fence between them and while we were talking Kiki, the cheeky little thing, crawled under the fence into the property and got in to Jandra. It was really great seeing those two together and I think that when the time comes and she will be here for good those two could be good friends.

After the walk we again had some leftover cake and snacks and Kiki made herself comfortable with her little bum inside my fish tunnel. It looked like the fish was swallowing her. So funny and we were really happy that she was so relaxed. We talked some more about the financials, what she would cost and the costs that would be coming up, vet and taxes, stuff like that. We get the legal paperwork sometime this week to sign and then like planned she will live and continue to learn at the breeder. We are going to visit her during that time, in fact a visit is already planned sometime during this summer.

She also met my Grandparents, which was important for me because you never know if they are going to be around when she comes to live with us. My Grandpa is 87 and at that age everything is possible. So her meeting them was a wish I had. My Grandpa said that she looks like a big rat but also said she was a nice dog.

Her original name is "Kiss me". Like that, not translated from German. Our breeder choose to name her Kiki and we are going to keep that name because it fits her so well. Her second name will be Luna, based on Luna Lovegood from Harry Potter. Due to her scar I wanted some kind of reference and Luna is also my favourite character. (Current doggie has three names, the one from the shelter, our name we choose for her and the name she got from the people in Turkey who rescued her. I use all three when I'm mad at her.)

We are extremely happy with our decision and she is something to look forward too, especially because in the next years we will eventually loose so many old people around us (who all are childless) and of course our current dog.

We only made one picture yesterday of me holding her, we completely forgot to make others. (Blacked myself out and attached it below.) The pictures look a bit different to how she looks in real life. Her scar is much more visible when you see her in person. First one is her as a puppy. Second one is a picture that was sent to me a while ago from our breeder and the last one is me holding her and she is kissing me.

@Gobbles, Kiki is adorable.  Thanks for the great description of the day.  Tell Grandpa from me that she looks nothing like a rat!  Although I'm sure he was joking about that.  And all dogs need more than one name. :)

Kiki sounds an ideal SD for you.  Friendly but not too friendly with strangers, good with other dogs, and able to make herself quickly at home in a fish tunnel.

Please keep us updated about her training and your visits to see her.  :bigheart:

Kiki is beautiful!  My grandmother had two chihuahuas and there is no better companion animal.  I'm sure you two will be great friends!

The breeder is right -stairs are hard for small dogs to negotiate.  Their legs are so short. It would be like us climbing a really steep hill.

Kiki is adorable.  I might be biased because I have 3 chihuahuas though.  I don't like my toy breed dogs jumping off the furniture so I taught them young to wait until they were placed on the floor.  Now if one of them thinks they are "stuck" on something (despite us having doggy steps for the bed and couch" they will bark until you come to rescue them rather than jumping or using the stairs.

I highly recommend investing in a set or two of doggy steps to help them get up on furniture/beds.  It saves me a lot of worry about broken legs, my one huge fear in having tiny dogs.   So many of my friends have ended up with toy breeds with a broken leg.

I really would like an Italian Greyhound, but you look at those dogs cross-eyed and they break a leg.

Big sister is the size of a Border Collie but has three legs due to possibly an accident. (We got her like that from a shelter.) She is not allowed to jump onto or from things as well, so we are used to that. She has self made stairs for the bed and grandmas couch. (She wouldn't be 14 and not needing any pain killers or other medication if we let her jump or have too long walks.)

Great to hear that there are other Chihuahua owners on here. I'm going to write a post later today because I want to write a bit about her genetics. She does have some US blood. ?

Wait are we talking about that quilted coat? Was that coat $600? I thought AH rarely shopped for clothing outside of Goodwill?

It appears to be from Potter's Daughter.  At least, that's a site that Abbie mentioned.  The person who runs it seems to repurpose old quilts into coats and jackets.  I think it's a nice, artsy idea but it would make more sense if Abbie made it herself or commissioned someone to reuse one of her old quilts.  The coats are around $600 and above.  It's right up Braggie's alley though.  She ends up with a one-of-a-kind item that's super-special and expensive.  She thinks that she's great at interior decorating and has a keen sense of style.

Some I think are true believers that have found the One Weird Trick, and believe passionately that They are withholding knowledge from you for nefarious purposes.

This is the part I don't get. Who do they think this mysterious "they" are? Deep state? The government? Lizard people? Illuminati? Pharmaceutical companies? Some combo of those?

But the biggest thing to me is why do they think "they" would withhold information on potentially lifesaving treatments? I've heard people say it's because of profits, but if there was a genuinely effective treatment "they" would snap that up, market it, and profit off of it in a heartbeat if money was the issue.

The government would benefit from a treatment that keeps people healthy and in the workforce paying taxes. Pharmaceutical companies would benefit from packaging, marketing, and selling the treatment. Doctors and hospitals would be happy to get people cured and out of their already overloaded system.

Dead people don't buy things or pay taxes. There's no benefit for "them" to let people die.

And if it was some big deep state government secret or something, it wouldn't be something you could find on Facebook or Youtube.

None of this conspiracy theory mess stands up to any real scrutiny.

Even if Braggie did thrift all her clothing, she still spends a ton. Because her closet is the size of a bedroom and it’s full of clothing.

I spend way more on my kids than myself. I'm sure many parents do that too because kids keep growing and needing new stuff. I rarely but myself new clothes. But I'm not growing so that's fine. Every time I think I should be good for a while and not need to get anything else for the kids, one of them grows. Activities cost money. But that's ok. I love seeing my kids develop their interests.

Now that being said, I'm not a mommy martyr. If there's something I or my husband wants, within reason, then we will try and make it happen eventually.

Our couches are seriously worn out, like there is a giant hole on part of it with a bunch of foam coming out. We spent a long time looking for the right couches and finally ordered them a few weeks ago. I'm so happy about that. My kids would rather keep the falling apart couches.

We are also getting a puppy in a few weeks. Our old dog died last August. I have a big birthday coming up and I told my husband that all I wanted was the springer spaniel puppy. My daughter is very excited about getting a new dog but we wouldn't be getting one if I hadn't felt it was the right time.

Really my husband's and my life revolve around giving the kids a good life even if we do some things for ourselves too. Braggie's main purpose in life isn't to give her kids a good life. They are just window dressing to serve her.

I think Abbie presents as a rather scattered and disorganized person in general. I think the reason she has so many kids is because she’s too lazy to use BC or track her cycles. She is very self centered and prioritizes what she wants to do or have, and outsources the rest to her parents, older kids and the occasional paid helper. Since she can’t outsource BC or abstinence to anyone other than herself or Shaun (and he is as disinterested as she is), voila, lots of kids. She clearly does not like parenting or anything that takes time, energy or money away from her own wants and interests. It’s a shame really.

Oh no her children get almost all thrifted stuff. Braggie will buy herself stuff that isn’t second hand. She buys clothes from Anthropologie. But she only posts about her Anthropologie outfits from goodwill. But she absolutely shops that store brand new.
