Alfie has been sitting in front of his litter box just staring into it for the best part of 30 mins now. It was fully changed yesterday and is clean, I have checked and can see nothing in there that would explain why he is doing this. Strange cat! Any ideas?

@OnceUponATime defo not a mouse *shudder*, might be a spider or fly that I can't see, whatever was holding his attention seems to have gone as he gave up his post about 10mins after I took that photo and he is now chilling out at the bottom of my bed.

That's Alfie the elder.  You might be thinking of Alfie the younger who  I believe belongs to Blah.  (and they look remarkably similar)

In this case there is not enough ear hair for that to be Alfie the younger.

Alfie the younger does have truly remarkable ear hair @clueliss, @violynn the easiest way to tell them apart is my Alfie is ginger and white and @Blahblah's Alfie is white and ginger.

@caszandra I reckon it's a portal to an alien universe and he was guarding it to protect you while it was open. There's no other explanation for when they stare at random, non-existent things.

@Blahblah, as a sci-fi fan that explanation makes me happy, hopefully next time the portal opens he can decide if it's safe and take us on an adventure and maybe even meet The Doctor somewhere in time and space!

Lol! My cats stare at the ceiling sometimes. Looking at angels I guess.

i made this oat grass container so they could watch the wildlife outside. It didn't work how I planned it.

I used oat grass seed this ten days after planting the seeds. I also buy it from the feed store. I spent $8.00. For a 50# bag.

I thought that was telling as well.  Although Gwen seemed to be head over heals with Joe, it appears she also loved her money and control more.  I have to wonder if anyone realized Joe was a player.  He seemed to have a better grasp of the bible and how to apply it than Gwen did.  Maybe he was rehearsing the role to be an eventual Prophet of a church.

After a long time of sharing with those who would know, I'm glad the documentary found a former associate of Joe to make clear that his role as middle aged and self made guru dispensing spiritual bon bons was just that .. a role.

Those acting classes were being repurposed through Gwen's coaching and Joe's growing ego contributed as well. He didn't know any more about the Bible and its application than what his Hallmark card dialogue made him seem to grasp.  And for Gwen, lost in her gushing middle age honeymoon crazy, that was fine. All knew who wore the pants in that department.

I honestly don't think they knew how they were going to proceed with his next characterization. They were too busy enjoying Life and letting Zion burn before the fateful crash. One thing Grider DID say that I DID agree with is that she did find another lead for her soap opera there.

Joe truly was that, but the Remnant effort to anoint him as a new David Koresh firebrand (another scruffy musician whose zeal was nourished by his association with the Branch Davidian matriarch before his ascendancy) would likely only have lead to him becoming just an Edward Francis instead. Francis was the one time paramour of cult leader Elizabeth Clare Prophet whose 15 year marriage ended after a "growing apart" ..  Joe just didn't have the depth to sustain that kind of role, but it sure was Fun while he played the Man.

I dislike the word wholesome too - but it’s a word Duggar supporters often used to describe them eg ‘ refreshing to have a wholesome family on TV’ etc.

JB & M are extremists, using a brand of religion to justify their extremism. JB is also a greedy control freak. He saw an opportunity to make money and control his family. His behaviour has left them educationally stunted so they either have to rely on him or marry their way out. Why he is given a platform to speak about parenting I’ll never know.

I never found a good translation for the word wholesome. I understand the way the word is used, but I never managed to fully grasp the meaning.

I’m glad the Pest decided to go to trial, but I don’t understand it at all. The media will absolutely cover all the details about the horrible kind of images he had (age of the children involved) and I struggle to see any defensive strategy they have left. So I see more publicity, more costs, more jail time. What are they hoping to win?

I was watching a true crime show (because I watch way too much) and there was a story where a wife lost well over 100lbs through her workout class. She gained so much confidence and was happier with herself. Her husband ended up killing her. He wanted an overweight, depressed wife with no confidence.

Yep, that was a Dateline episode.

Also I kind of hate the word "wholesome". It's such a subjective thing and also gets used to beat up people who don't fit that description. And generally if a piece of media is labeled "wholesome" I assume it's going to be bland, boring and annoying.

I often watch the Hallmark channel late at night, because I like "The Waltons" reruns.  The ads drive me batshit, though - for what has seemed well over a month the channel has been advertising their "Countdown to Christmas" coming up.  They're about to start the actual Countdown (new wholesome shows that I won't watch), so I guess it'll be another 2+ months of those ads*.  I find them sickeningly sweet; e.g.,friends tittering "Merry Chreeesmuuus" to each other at practically dog whistle pitch, and the same ones are repeated over and over and over...  I'm getting better at hitting the mute button, though.

      * I'm cool with Christmas ads before Christmas, but I really don't want to hear much about it before Thanksgiving and certainly no more than an occasional reference during the summer.
