It's not just about the days people...there are other measurements of time...

I have been derelict in not keeping up with the months as well - celebrated across our fine land.  So to catch everyone up on what we've missed

March is:

  • National Caffeine Awareness Month
  • National Celery Month
  • National Cheerleading Safety Month
  • National Craft Month
  • National Credit Education Month
  • National Flour Month
  • National Frozen Food Month
  • National Noodle Month
  • National Peanut Month
  • National Sauce Month
  • National Umbrella Month

And for the archives...

January was:

  • National Bath Safety Month
  • National Black Diamond Month*  (I don't think they mean the KISS song, but I do.  Peter Criss was a machine in the day - his drum solo lives in infamy)
  • National Hot Tea Month
  • National Oatmeal Month
  • National Slow Cooking Month
  • National Soup Month
  • National Sunday Supper Month* (if I call it dinner can I still celebrate next year?  Or is it strictly for the "supper" people?)

February was:

  • An Affair to Remember Month
  • Canned Food Month
  • Creative Romance Month
  • Great American Pie Month
  • National Bake for Family Fun Month
  • National Bird Feeding Month
  • National Cherry Month
  • National Grapefruit Month
  • National Hot Breakfast Month
  • National Library Lovers Month
  • National Macadamia Nut Month
  • National Snack Food Month
  • National Weddings Month

Shouldn't national bird feeding month be in a month with more birds about?

I'm not going to comment (at too much length) about how National Library Month would have been a good time to review your thoughts about Poor 96-year old Grandpa Joe.

If you're going to start applying logic to these things I don't know what I am going to do with you...

We can't have people trying to make sense of things, it leads to nothing but pain and heartache.

Like a lot of data he fits into multiple categories.   Maybe he'll get his own post someday where I can excoriate him at length.

2016 is:

Year of the Monkey (give or take)

International Year of the Pulses (dammit, now I need to plant even more. But now I have an excuse for experimenting with lentils and chickpeas)

International Year of Global Understanding

And I read this one as: National Flour Mouth :pb_lol: But yay I have three days left to craft!

"International Year of Global Understanding" sounds a bit ambitious.

Global Year of International Understanding might have been a more achievable target to set.

That would be the year named by the different international science councils. In context it makes a bit more sense

The aim of IYGU is to promote better understanding of how the local impacts the global in order to foster smart policies to tackle critical global challenges such as climate change, food security and migration.

For more info the ICSU would be your place to go

I was trying to be dryly funny.  (I know.)

I often see my posts in isolation in the unread posts stream and realise how deeply unfunny they sound after the event! :P

But there is only one shot with the edit button and that is barely sufficient for a spelling and grammar check, let alone a comedy re-write. :my_biggrin:

yeah, I don't usually see humor* when I'm geeking out about new shit I just discovered. I didn't know of the ISCU.  I'm seriously excited! :happy-bouncyblue:

*I'm sure someone stole my funny bone. At least then it wouldn't be my fault

We only feed the birds in the winter because of the lack of food sources available in the winter. We don't feed them in the summer because there are food sources available and because bird feeders attract bears.

When I read (too fast, as usual) "National Grapefruit Month and National Hot Breakfast Month" being so close together gave my brain "National Hot Grapefruit Month" and then I KNEW something was wrong.

Hot Grapefruit sounds as weird as the Hot Dr. Pepper dispenser I saw in the 80s. Even weirder, I tried it. I don't even like Dr. Pepper. It was not too bad, IIRC. Utterly weird.

This list reminds me of David Foster Wallace's concept of "subsidized time" in Infinite Jest, where each year is "sponsored" by a corporation, so you get things like:

Year of the Perdue Wonderchicken

Year of Dairy Products from the American Heartland

Year of the Depend Adult Undergarment

and (my favorite)

Year of the Yushityu 2007 Mimetic-Resolution-Cartridge-View-Motherboard-Easy-To-Install-Upgrade For Infernatron/InterLace TP Systems For Home, Office Or Mobile

i think she announced it’d be Amaree,

My guess was Arrow Canaan on the Baby Names Thread. Her boy names follow an ACC pattern & don't have cutesy spellings. Since there's not much with the aforementioned pattern, that's what lead me to my guess.

Gotcha.  I don’t follow her but see reddit posts about her and couldn’t remember where I saw the name.

If it is Amaree, it’s the first “non-noun as a name” name for awhile, right,  I can’t remember them all—anchor, armor, anthym, aynjel, are the four I remember that are other words.  Then andre, arissa (is is anissa?), anniston (i will never be convinced it’s not after jennifer anniston).  So I’m missing 3.

Anyway, lucky kid gets a normal name if it’s amaree

Something made me look up the Boyer Girls on FJ, and there was a post in the previous baby thread, so I couldn’t quote—sorry!

I saw that Brigid is now a doula, with Brijeedoula. And wouldn’t you know it, she has another insta called evespromise. That handle is…like, was Eve really into birthing babies, or is ‘promise ’ a try-hard sublimation of ‘curse’? For a fundie Christian, the handle actually sounds threatening!
