That's butter lamb to us English speakers.  I admit I buy mine from the Polish market and my goal is to one year get it out of the package without breaking or swearing.

If I really loved my family I'd hand craft this...but instead I'll just be impressed by those who do.

Something seemed to have gone terribly awry in the life of this butter lamb...

Lamb cake, and now butter lamb.  I have come to realise that our lack of Easter traditions in Australia is rather....boring :(

I know! Chocolate eggs are pretty much the only Easter tradition I grew up with.  Well, and Jesus, but I am thinking of consumer traditions here. :)

@Karma You could start your own lamb-ington tradition next year :P

Buffy - what do you do with the butter? I assume you eat it, but is there a traditional food that it is served with? or does it just sit neglected on the table for a few meals?

Is that actual plain butter then?! I assumed it was butter fondant or something! You really push the boat out don't you?!

Spoiler

There is no spoiler. I tried to hit the emoticon button and missed. I can't work out how to delete the spolier box and, really, what do you expect from someone who takes two full days to find and clear her cache? !!

All those years before there was an internet, I had to watch Neighbours and Home & Away without ever finding out what a lammington was. But now I know! :)

Use it just like regular butter.  Put it on potatoes, biscuits, etc and anything left over just goes in the fridge to be used in lieu of plain butter.

European butter has a much higher fat content than our regular butter, so it's something we limit to holidays but it's really yummy.

If you ever want to make your own (Pina Colada style):

Day old crushed-pineapple sponge (it needs to be a little dry to absorb icing, but not ick-dryness) cut into squares

roll them in runny rum icing to coat thoroughly (for prettiness add a bit of yellow food coloring)

roll them in desiccated coconut straight away to coat.

Oh no! After all this time, I finally get to see a lammington, and then you spoil it by telling me about the pineapple and rum. Eeew. :(

Are those also lammingtons?! This is all getting complicated.  When Mrs Mangel used to ask Madge Bishop to bake lammingtons for the church coffee morning, she never specified a certain type!

NOOOO!  That's terrible, you can't call something like that a lamington!!!  @blessalessi Don't believe her, it's not true!  Mrs Mangel would never have considered a creation like this to be a lamington!

@blessalessi, a lamington is traditionally made with chocolate icing.  Much less commonly with pink icing. As a a Girl guide back in the 70s we would make the chocolate ones as fundraisers.  The mess we used to get into!  One of my favourite childhood memories though, was visiting my great aunt Mary. She was a fabulous cook, and we could always rely on her to have delicious pink jelly lamingtons (the pink icing was actually jelly just before setting) and fairy cakes (butter cupcakes with the top cut off, a dollop of cream, and the halved top put back on top, angled like wings, then dusted with icing sugar.)

@OnceUponATime What on earth is that marshmallow on top of a lamington?  Did someone actually post that on the Internet as a suggestion of an Australian version of @HerNameIsBuffy's butter lamb?

@HerNameIsBuffy A look for butter lamb on the Internet shows no butter lambs available here...only recipes for legs of lamb, which is very commonly eaten here (we had baked leg of lamb every Sunday through my childhood, but mr karma prefers beef, so it's beef in our home ).  There were a lot of Polish immigrants in the years after WWII though , so I'm betting it is available in a deli or two!

@Karma I did that (on Cocktail-Themed Cake Day). It was damn good. I may have consumed too many before going to work though; weirdly enough rum does not become non-alcoholic when used in icing.

I think the marshmallow is meant to be a head. I don't know, I googled "lamington sheep" or something similar to find a pic. These guys I found on a blog about Reinventing the Lamington:

They actually look good, I may have to add that to my Easter baking wishlist for next year.

Those things look amaaaazing....I've never heard of a lamington which is now making me very sad.

They remind me of a homemade/upscale version of my very favorite snack cake - a raspberry zinger.

I need lamington recipes because we're having company next weekend and that will be our desert.

These ones actually do look good!  (Although they do not share much of a resemblance to a lamington!)

now now, don't go judging food by its outward appearance. We all know you must judge it by its heart (aka ingredients) :P

@HerNameIsBuffy I would suggest checking out deliciousdeliciousdelicious.blogspot.com/search/label/Re-Inventing%20the%20Lamington

But don't tell Karma, she might not like it

They even made one just for @Destiny

lemon and meringue?  That looks so delicious I may need to move to Australia where you keep such things hidden from the rest of the world.

@HerNameIsBuffy You'd never heard of a lamington? Where were you in 26 January when @Blahblah , myself and others were talking about our traditional Australia Day foods?  From memory we took over specularium that day.  Maybe we took over when you were all asleep!?

That lamington with meringue on top? I've never seen such a thing.  Shakes head and wonders what this country is coming to...

That was a dreadfully extreme reaction and yes therapy needing or she's among the 1 percent of most selfish people on earth.  Joy has PPD and is getting therapy.  I can see where she mighht not go to the funeral, but support Jill in other ways.

"Very thoughtful and intentional updates".  That's a load of bullshit.  She wanted her kitchen redone and they were willing to spend six months in a rental to have it just like Braggie wanted it.  If she'd really put thought into it, she would have arranged the kitchen so that it was more child-friendly.  She could have actually had the kitchen designed so it would be easier to prep for meals and clean up afterwards.  I see nothing like that.  It's just new knobs, distressed painting, and old furniture.   (That distressed green door is making me nuts.)  Where are the pull-outs for pan storage?  What about, you know, rounding the damn corners so your little boys aren't always cracking their skulls on the corners as they skid around the kitchen?  What about comfortable seating?  What about a pantry that's closer to the kitchen counter?  What about making the daily dinnerware easier to put away and not using shelves in the kitchen to display your mismatched bowls and cups?  And why is there a bandanna hanging right near a stove burner?

Didn't she call them "twinbies" as a portmanteau for twin babies? Those are not babies anymore and haven't been for a while. I'm probably just being BEC about this but I do wonder if they'll be babied for as long as Janessa Rodrigues is.

Yes, they will.  The girls are twinsies and the boys are twinbies.  Abbie thinks that's cute.  She mentioned in a story yesterday that she had to clean some poopy diapers so the boys are nearly four and she still isn't toilet training them.  They will stay babies for a couple more years.

More proof she has a shopping problem. She sells stuff all the time. Therefore you don’t notice how much she constantly buys.

      71F60A17-1C43-45B5-A110-45C1615EBB6A.jpeg

More lies d from Braggie. She constantly complained about her concrete counter top because it was always chipping. She also complained about the paint on the cabinets chipping as well. She has been wanting to redo The Whole kitchen for awhile and a total gut job was not necessary at all. She lies as much as she breathes.

I have to add she got two new dishwashers, a new giant fridge and a new $12,000 stove/oven. I’m sure they weren’t broken by the “flood.”
