Finally Started Secret Garden

So I finally broke open Secret Garden.    Title page done with CraZ Art colored pencils.  Second pick is with a combination of Frixion gel pens and Super Doodle Gels.  Interesting note here - the Frixion are very good in tight places and dry more quickly than the Super Doodles.  The paper of Secret Garden is to my estimation a card stock quality.  The gels don't bleed through (and the page I used them on doesn't have something that requires coloring on the opposite side which was why I was willing to experiment there).  I will caution you to test your gels to see how quickly they dry since the gels pictured did not bleed through, but did imprint on the opposite page (third pic).  I know from the color that is a Super Doodle pen causing the issue.   If you look realllly closely at the second pick you'll probably see a couple of places where my hand tracked not quite try ink elsewhere on the page.

I know others have done these pages and am too lazy to look them up.

I read on amazon that the later prints of the book use a heavier paper because people commented on colors bleeding through. I assume that my Lost Ocean book is one of the later ones because the paper feels and looks so different than my Secret Garden book.

These are both beautiful. I think I'm gonna put one of Johanna Basford's books on my Amazon wish list. Unfortunately, they are really expensive here (like €15 each), so I'll have to wait a while with actually buying them. Which one is you guys' favorite (since so many FJ colorists have the books)?

If I was having to wait I would go for the new one! Just to make us all jealous. ;)
If you don't mind a non-english coloring book you should check out all the european amazon sites because they seem to have different pricing. Just be careful that you don't end up getting too excited over a cheap book only to find out it is a smaller version of postcards

Both great.  I like the black in the second one. It really makes the other colors pop.

I love the frixon gel pens.  I use them a ton.

@JillyO I am missing one of the basford books (enchanted forest I think), but I don't think you can really go wrong with any of her books.  It kind of depends on what you like to color.  Lost Ocean, is obviously fish/sea type pictures, so if you aren't into fish and other oceany type things I would get one of the others.

And with this I'm a mere 2 pages behind now. YAY!

I don't think that's black.  I think it's a really dark green.

My eyes are horrible.  I enlarged it and you are right.  Sorry.  I still like it :)

Don’t ever complain about your husband being a lazy slob around Allison. She will just say, “at least your husband isn’t dead!”

Shoshanna finally addresses her parent's books....by implying that there's nothing problematic with Created to be his Helpmeet, and that her divorce is justified...just because???

The Babylon Bee, which used to gently mock fundies and evangelicals, but has mostly turned into a right-wing version of The Onion, has gotten some backlash from bigots.

They posted a fake bit about a man they labeled as "inbred" proclaiming that the white race needs to stay pure.

      Here it is:

      https://babylonbee.com/news/white-race-must-maintain-genetic-purity-says-inbred-man

I'm a bit confused about why the fuss has just come up, since the post was from 2017. But maybe they just put it on X/Twitter, or someone just re-found it and passed it around.

There was a rush of mind-bogglingly racist and antisemitic response. More here:

One thing I wasn't aware of is the Air BnB unit on one side of the house  had guests staying at the time of the search, although I don't know if they were actually there at the  time.

When I heard Jodi state that to the officers I thought, huh-uh, that's not an Air BnB, I bet it is housing for "intensive therapy" for couples for which she could charge the church. But maybe not.

If that other side had its own kitchen, that still leaves two kitchens in the rest of the house plus the safe/prison room with its tiny "kitchen." Jodi may have built it with her brand of therapy control in mind. I wonder how that house would serve another family who will end up living there.

Something that puzzles me is how both garages were so pristinely clean, but with signs that cars had been in there at some point. The entire driveway is small rocks or pebbles, I could hear the police vehicles crunching over them. Yet there was no sign of pebbles being drug into the garage or falling from tire treads. Sweeping it out regularly may have been forced on one or more of the kids.

And this reminds me to dispose of a couple of things in the drawer in my guest room.  I had a beloved Jewish friend; he was a Holocaust surviver and lived to be 104.  I had gotten a little lacy head covering for myself and a yarmulka for another friend in case we attended his funeral.  I never thought of him being buried in Israel, but he (and more recently his wife) was, so I'll keep my daughter from wondering what in the world I meant by those, when my time comes.
