Penis envy?

crazydaffodil

Seems to be a lot of mention of male reproductive organs lately, both here and in the Republican debates.  Does size really matter?  Does even having such a slab of muscle mean anything?

Sure, this site is heavily visited and used by women to express thoughts and ideas.  But if a male steps in and says something that goes against the grain, instead of being called out on it, as would be done with a female user, he gets raked over the coals.  It's as if the women of the Amazons have declared their supremacy and men shall not express ideas opposite of theirs.

Is this because the women have some kind of penis envy or are they just taking it out on the man?

Just sayin...

Curious, I have no idea what the hell happened here, but this is ridiculous. Absolutely ridiculous. Since when do we foster and encourage trolls here? I'm honestly stunned. This is the last post you'll see from me. If you're truly in the dark, you have completely lost control of your forum. Good luck.

Troll?  You cast such judgment based on...?  I do not need Curious' support, nor do I seek i.  I can take it.

You have no idea who this person is.  We do NOT treat new members this way.  HOw do you know this person hasn't been reading for a while and felt compelled to join due to the current situation or because they just felt like joining.   Every new member is NOT a troll just because you don't like their opinion.

You complain about us cracking down and we should take "free speech" off the description, but when someone posts something you don't like you try to shut them down.

It's fine to disagree with someone, but saying "who the hell are you?"  REALLY?  That is now behavior that is ok here?  NO  Who the hell are YOU to attack someone just because you don't like their opinion?

People need to get over themselves.

Envy is not the word I would use at all, and I would not classify the recent issues as envy either.

In fact, I can completely understand the FJ goddesses getting suspicious, and angry, at a vocal male (me) in their midst, and for very obvious reasons,

Who does the abuse in QF patriarchy? Men.

Who has abused some members of this group? Men.

Need I even go further?

Women do cause abuse, it is a thing. But in this group, almost universally: The individual with the penis was the one who did the damage.

That is NOT "envy".

I was going to downvote your blog entry here, but I instead hope you get to know the community you are blogging in a bit more, okay?

Take care.

Was curious what meaning it has in this context.

Gamer, why "goddesses"?

It just popped into my head one day, like a week ago.

Is it overly cute? Should drop it?

It would be cute (overly or otherwise) in some contexts.  Empowering in some contexts, not in others. Various potential negative meanings in yet other contexts.

That's why I asked, to see what meaning it had in your intent.  I'm still curious about that.  When it popped into your head, and you chose to use it, what meaning did you feel that it added to your communication?

As is presumably obvious after the last few days, people most likely have their impression of you in this or that way.  But no one actually knows if they are reading you right.  So I thought I'd ask, when a particular phrase caught my eye, what meaning you intended it to have.

I don't think the recent upset was about a person's gender.

Speaking for myself, it is really quite disappointing and irritating when a Randumb new person joins us, and rather than reading up on discussions and threads in this board, or introducing themselves in the thread for new posters, they begin their time here sitting in judgement of people who have, and still do, contribute a lot to this place, and whose opinions and views I for one respect.

It seems very presumptuous, even obnoxious, of said new poster, especially when they appear to be provoking a recent situation where people were hurt, for effect. It makes me wonder, when so many new posters have cheerfully joined in the past, and been welcomed by the community here, why they would do such a thing...?

Just sayin...of course.

And penis envy? Really? :snooty:

In the spirit of being neighborly, and in case you haven't realized it, this was an ill advised post given the current mood on the forum. You would probably be better received if you make more of an effort to read the room before making a post. You're picking at a scab that hasn't even fully formed yet.

As the others said, I don't think this is the right moment (or place) for such a blog post. However, be welcome and enjoy your time here. It is a lovely place and people are really nice... when in a better mood :)

@Curious, timing is everything. @singsingsing's emotions are high, as are yours, I think, please correct me if I am wrong. At this point, in my opinion, it would be most beneficial for the community if all members who care about the community would refrain from knowingly controversial posts that may appear to be in any way, directly or obliquely, referring to the shitstorm of the past few days. And let the ignoring begin early here, that may help. YMMV

These are nor normal times for FJ, and I wish that all members, new and old, would be mindful of that.

Peace to all, gotta go. Tiptoeing out again...

Its misogynistic, I would advise you drop it. It is condescending in the same way "princess" and "Sweetie" are. I would not appreciate a man calling me, in an moment of high emotion, princess. Goddess has a positive connotation sometimes, but given the situation on the forum, this is not one of those moments.

Appreciate the honest feedback. Had already talked it out in another thread and dropped it from my usage. Thank you.

Saying it's misogynist it's a tad exaggerated. It certainly sounds condescending, yes. It also sounds ironic. The thing is, even the most innocuous word will get a negative connotation depending on the context, tone and general phrase construction. It will also be interpreted differently by people depending on a variety of things, including their mood. Right now, some people here don't take it well, obviously.

So to answer your question, @TheRetroGamerNY, it is inappropriate given the general situation now. And I should add that unfortunately right now any attempt at humour, irony or cuteness/sweetness might be misinterpreted by some people... Yep, sad times :(

Well, I had Googled the phrase last night after it was brought to my attention, and the first article encountered is what educated me the most. There is no equally appropriate term to say to a man is what the basic idea was.

I don't think saying it's misogynistic is exaggerated at all. Men being condescending in conversation towards women, using gendered words to accomplish that is misogynistic. Would sexist be a better word to use? Do you think that misogynistic is just too heavy handed of a word to use to describe it? Personally I think this entire fiasco is tinged with misogyny but I'd rather stay out of that. I'm just disappointed to see TRGNY using that type of language given what has happened in the last few days.

People on Reddit think Joy wasn't there, which is understandable since she went through something similar. Going to something like that would probably just bring all that pain back up.

RE: number of c-sections - I've heard of women in Europe being told 2 only; my friend's parents argued that Americans do more and their doctor okayed four. Women in US 4 only. But have met women who have had 5 sections. Two women I know were told at their last c-section (3rd and 5th) that their uterus was at the point of rupture and advised them to not have any more pregnancies. My point is it's very individual and a doctors should consider individual circumstances.

      That could be concerning.

Look I know kids do weird things as part of games, and maybe I've been reading JRod too much but my first thought was that they are hungry and hiding food for later.

This I just don't get. Surely at least part of the point of it is storage? At the very least wouldn't you clean just to make sure you hadn't brought spiders or other insects in with you?? Betting at least part of the price difference was cleaning, restoring, polishing and insect-free guarantee!

She talked about how the little children were taking bread from the pantry and putting it in there. So maybe it was clean when it came home but then the food got in it?

Unclear. I guess I don't get why if you recorded that you wouldn't pause, wipe it out, and rerecord? I would be embarrassed by that.
