About this blog

This shall be a place for everything I have to tell someone or some sort of diary. I tried to write a diary several times, but writing just for me seems useless. Current topic is my drivers license and a future one will be getting my dog which I need the license for. (Now you know my biggest motivation.)

You might have noticed my status updates about something I did not want to talk about. I decided to start writing through this process as well. I already wrote about getting another dog after our current fur monster passes away. I'm all in for #adoptdontshop and animal shelters and our current dog is from a shelter, but that is also the reason why we are opting for a responsible breeder this time. That is another story, but I just want to mention that there are reasons why we don't use a shelter

And she is mine.

Fall 2017: First toy bought at an animal fair. First time held a Chihuahua.  January 29th 2018: Gave a list of breeders to my mother so that she could call them. January 31th 2018: My Mum had a two hour phone call with our future breeder. August 26th 2018: First visit to the breeder. First time seeing Kiki, who arrived there one day earlier. At that time not knowing she would be ours. May 5th 2019: We got the mail that Kiki would be a suitable dog for me.  May 26th 2019: First time meeting Kiki

Visiting Kiki - January 2020 - Day 2

Here is the post about our second and last day with Kiki. We picked her up at around 10am, the Grandma gave her to us, because her foster mama was at work. We decided to drive into the little town first and go to our apartment after. We walked around the pedestrian zone, went into the tourism office, a few stores and whatnot. She was the star once again. First a mail lady stopped and talked to us and her, then another older couple. The wife was afraid of dogs, but she was okay with Kiki.

Planing our visit!

During the last two weeks we were busy trying to find a good and not so expensive apartment to rent for our two days visiting Kiki. It is a bit difficult, because the region she lives in is a very touristy area. Lots of people go there to hike or bike so we had some trouble finding something. But in the end we got a flat in a village nearby, about 15 minutes away by car. It is quite huge, so she has lots of space to run around.  Right now I'm planning our drive, it is "only" around 170km an

It's official - we got the papers!

On June 5th we signed the contracts and paid Kiki. It's official know. We own two dogs, one still here with us and one 150km away.  With the papers we also got her pedigree passport type of thing. We don't really care about her relatives and what they won or that one of them was at Crufts, but it is nice to see who she is related too, especially because we know nothing about big sister, not even her real birthday.  Her parents are from the Czech Republic. (Mum lives in Germany, Dad in the

Tomorrow is the day!

Tomorrow at 9:15am German time I have my exam. I had one lesson on Monday, and cancelled the second due to the exam and two activities I have planned for Friday and Saturday. (Meeting my best friend on Friday and Comic Con on Saturday.) The lesson on Monday was okay. We practised parking on a busy parking lot. So the highest difficulty, during the lessons before we only used lots with minimal traffic. Monday was different. The parking lot belongs to a indoor/outdoor swimming pool and it was almo

Yesterday I picked my car up at the dealer. The car was parked inside the building on the first floor (2nd in the US I thing, so not ground floor, one above it). We paid and got a little introduction and then we watched as they basically shoved the car out of the window onto a ramp and like an elevator it went down to the ground. (You only get that if you buy new, with used cars you just pick them up on the parking place, haha!)  First stop was the gas station (I paid 50€ for a full tank, I

Nothing new to report driving wise. I still taking my lessons. Still in the norm with how many I have. (Saying that, because there can be a huge difference between cities and countries. Traffic here is hell.) I will have my 30th lesson this week. 30 is the average, including especially young men who drove illegally before.  My instructor explained that I'm currently near the peak of the mountain, waiting for the last improvement. Still struggling quite a lot with shifting. It should be

Driving lessons, roundabouts and fog

Last week we were invited to a 50th birthday party in another suburb, maybe 20/25 minutes to drive. The party started at 7pm and lasted until after midnight. I drove my Mum and it went really great. I reverse parked like a pro! ? On our way back there were literally no cars on the roads. I was so much fun driving around town alone. I did some roundabouts twice and we had music on. It was better than the party!!! ? There was also a pretty foggy part outside of the town, almost no visibility. Took

It's going to be a....

Right now it is Friday morning, the day after my two test drives. I got the mail that my license is ready to be picked up on Tuesday, my Grandpa went and got it for me on Wednesday. Already on Tuesday we called and made appointments for two test drives, one in a Renault Captur with 120 PS and the other one in the new Honda Jazz/Fit with 130 PS.  First, driving was no problem at all. I felt much better than in the driving lessons. I had no problem using those new cars, took me about a minute

Waiting for my license & a new car?

Because I switched from manual to automatic during my lessons I needed to wait a bit longer than usual for my license. Last week we went to the driver's license office type of thing and told them to change my license. We paid for the quicker time (a few days vs. six weeks for 19€ was worth it) and it should be ready by Wednesday or Thursday. I can't wait to hold that damn thing in my hands, and not only the paper with the big fat "this is not a license" on it.  Yesterday we went to look at

That's what I call driving!

Quick update: While the final decision will be made on Monday after another lesson, my heart is already set on switching to Automatic. That means getting another car. But my Grandpa said he will help me fund it.  Driving today was so so much better. I was at the right speed most of the time (50 when there is 50 allowed and not 40 like before), I drove quicker into roads. I felt better. It was fun to drive and for the first time I was pleased with myself after a lesson. My instruct

Visiting Kiki - January 2020 - Day 1

As promised, they story continues! We got to visit Kiki from January 26th to January 27th. It wasn't sure if we were able to go due to my old Grandparents and her big sister at home who is also getting older. She is turning 15 sometime this year. But in the end my Dad stayed at home to take care of everyone and we were able to go. To be honest, I was a bit happy that he did not come with us, because I love those little trips with my Mum. My Mum drove on the highway on our way to Kiki so we were

Our 1st visit - Day 1

On Sunday morning, October 6th, we drove a couple of hours north to visit Kiki and our breeder. Twenty minutes before we reached the breeder it started raining and it did not stop for the rest of the day. It was horrible, like really heavy rain. We spend some time at the breeders house and got a collar for her and the breeder gave us also a cat littler box. Everything else we brought with us. Kiki was shaking when we put her in the box in my car because she was so nervous. It was her first time

A house for Kiki

Last week I saw someone offering a pet house at a Facebook group I'm a member in. He had it for his cat but the cat did not use it. It is in very used condition, but with some paint it will look fine again. And it was free. So today I drove there and picked it up by myself. This is such a huge deal for me. I was extremely anxious, but I managed to do it. I went there, ringed the bell, told him I was there for the house and he carried it to my car. (This was in the middle of the town, so totally

She is already spoiled...

Kiki isn't even here yet and won't be for a long time, but she already has a box for her stuff. We have a lot of doggie things already due to big sister, but we need some new things for her. I want to wait buying her her harness/collar and the more expensive things (bag for travelling by plane, car box, ect.).  I want to buy as much stuff as possible at the different shelter events here in our area. They have those flea markets every time and the things they sell were donated to them, so I

Our 1st visit - Day 2

Like the day before, we picked her up at the breeder and drove to the flat for a second breakfast for us. No rain that day, which was great! This time she barfed into her box, so we got all fluids we could on our visit. (Minus, blood, she was in heat during September, so we skipped that. ?) As it was a working day the shops were open, so we took her to a pet store. She was a bit unsure outside, but once inside she perked up again and went looking around. Curious as she is she stood in front

Up up up....

At the end of the last lesson as I parked the car I looked to my instructor and he sat there having a smile on his face. That should tell you how I'm doing. Automatic really changed my life. I now have five lessons or so with the automatic car and the difference is amazing. So I guess we are very slowly walking or rather driving towards the end phase. The nervousness before lessons is almost gone and I can talk while driving and I drive quite normal now. Which my instructor likes, but still I sh

Very quick update

Had my lesson for today and it went very well. After 20 minutes or so he told me to park the car at the side of the road, and asked me how I felt so far. My reply was: "I have hoped that you wouldn't ask, 'cause now everything is going to be worse." He just rolled his eyes and told me to believe in myself. Like I said, it got a bit bad after that but I saved it and drove good in the end. He said 80% was good! He told me that I was using my mirrors perfectly. I looked every time I should have loo

Questioning my ability?

Wednesday, 16.05.2018 - Lesson 14 We drove almost the same route as Monday. He said we are now practising more situations I have problems with. In my case narrow roads and driving on the right side in situations like that. I'm too much in the middle because I'm afraid of hitting parked cars on the side. Lots of priority-to-the-right rule (according to Google this is the proper word) situations. Not a problem in automatic cars, but I struggle a bit with going down into 1st, driving slowly in

I own a car now!

On 29th October I officially bought the biggest thing I have ever bought. My car! (Obviously I'm not able to pay for it, so thanks Grandpa/Family!) The car is already in Germany, so they dealer might get it around the 15th November and once they have cleaned, sorted out the official stuff and put on the winter tires I should get it around the 19th. I already have my license plate (in Germany you can either get a random number, or pay for one you want). My initials and four numbers, my birthday a

Her name is Kiki

She passed her test. Her test consisted of spending one and a half hour walking through a very beautiful/medieval city (-> many tourists) city. The weather was very good so there were even more people. She had to do some special tasks, and the breeder said they were stopped by many people talking to them and telling them how cute she was. (The dog, not the breeder. ?) Her name is Kiki and we will keep it if it works out. In two weeks the breeder, her husband and Kiki will drive to us (th

0 points, shaking feet & the Autobahn

A lot has happened since last week, first an most important: I passed my theoretical exam with no mistakes! 1.) Last Thursday I had my exam at 9:15am in a town nearby. We were 15 people at first, but two got send home instantly because they did not have their proof of attending theory classes. (They still have to pay the fees though!) We got each assigned a place at a round table and everyone had a tablet. I was on of the first people who were finished so I have no idea how it went for the

When your body tells you to slow down

Like I wrote in my status update, I got sick on Friday evening. A really horrible cold. Because my immune system does not do well at all when I'm stressed and the whole drivers license thing makes me incredibly stressed. I got not one, but two cold sores inside my lips on Tuesday. My upper lip is still twice the size of normal. The last time I had more than one cold sore at the same time was over ten years ago. (Also in a very stressful situation.)  I'm going to class tonight and next week

160km/h

I had my two hour trip on Tuesday. First we drove for around 20 minutes on the Autobahn to a city called Kirchheim unter Teck. From there a little round course across the Swabian Alb followed. (Basically around the castle Teck.) Lots of narrow roads, curves and my instructor was mad because a truck was driving in front of us and could not overturn him due to the road situation and we could not drive as fast as my instructor would have liked.  On the way back we drover via the Autobahn as we

Wishing I had a dollar for every time I burped on my back porch after dark and set off a neighbor's dog. The best part is that I'm sure everyone think it's my BF and not me, because it's surely not possible such a huge noise could come out of my body.
