And Just then, he learned how to Cat.

He's still perfecting eating like a big boy. The - stick your whole head and two feet in the bowl - is a popular method.  He's been given the *boop* of approval from the old man. They curled up in front of the fridge & took a cat nap.

Thorsday Activities!

I figured out how to brighten the video in YouTube!  I'm learning!   It's still a bit dark but you can see his climbing abilities.  He's finally getting the concept of lapping, not sucking, at the milk.  Hopefully we'll have a mostly weaned kitten by the time Little Hooman and I start back to school in a week or two.  He runs. He jumps. He climbs. He bitches at me when I don't pick him up in the kitchen!  He's a fuzzy little love bug that lets me rock him to sleep.  Yesterday's weight:  15.6 ounces!!!  Almost a pound!

Thor & his Housemates

We've had a full week of growing & purring & investigating the house. Her knows what the door is all about. As soon as we open it he knows to stand back a little & come around, toddling out & down the hall as though he knows where he's going. Inevitably he looks back or runs for familiar toes.  He's still so itty! But he's mighty. Not quite eating from a dish yet, but there is interest so we're getting there. He really loves snuggling in Little Hooman's bed, her bed is smooshy & warm. Tonight I offer snuggly kittens, milk face, & some candids of the big kids.   The fluffy calico is Princess.. There's an osculating fan behind her, she stopped grooming & sat there letting the fan blow her fur around like she's in a Beyonce video. And the old man, Texi. He's been with us 12 years. He owns everything.

Happy Birthday Thor!

Thirty days ago this little muffin was squeaking for his little life under the edge of my house. He was tiny & cold & his mama was no where in sight.  Now he zooms around the living room, potty's in his own litter box, and loves to have his belly tickled.  He grooms his own toes & loves to be rocked to sleep. We're currently working on eating from a dish; challenging to say the least. I've had pets my whole life.  He makes cat no. 3 and pet no. 10 currently at our house. This little cat has woken something up in me that I didn't even know was asleep. Honey & I are at the verge of empty nest with my Little Hooman headed into junior year & his talking engagement.  Having this baby cuddled up under my chin while I type makes every late night & early morning worth it. He makes me peaceful.  Thanks to everyone who has sent every kind word, advice, prayers, good thoughts, and anything I may be leaving out.  He beat the odds.

Thor Sundays

In two days my mini-muffin will be 30 days old by my best guess.  I found he and his litter mates on the 26th of June, four Sundays ago.  While Honey and I are still somewhat on the fence about whether or not he's actually a he or a she, the name Thor will remain no matter what.   I expanded the kitty condo in the spare room so he's got some room to stretch and play.  I snitched two jingly balls the older kitty's had tried to hide and Little Hooman gave a piece of a project she'd made a couple years ago in middle school (basically some craft cotton balls on the end of a small dowel).  There are little cute gentle pounces and he loves to play the belly tickle-finger nibble game.  Awake more than asleep, we have to make sure he's  either with one of us or near us.  I still haven't let the big cats have more than a long distance sniff...still haven't had vaccinations yet and honestly...my big cats are huge, gorgeous, and kinda bitchy.  They might cuddle him or they might eat him...it could go either way.  Hell they might cuddle till the tummy growls....**love love lick lick...chomp** An amazing 9.8 ounces!  He's over half a pound!  Tried a smidge of milk in a bowl lid today...not so much yet.  We'll work on it.  I did add an organic kitty vitamin to his food to help out the skin and coat issue.  The fur is growing in on his little paws but his tail is slowly sloughing off the old fur and new skin and fur is growing in.  It looks rough but it's fine.  The potty issue is much better, I do one day of sugar and one day of Pedialite.  Now he's pottying on a more even schedule and feels much better.  I took some candids today, he's moving so much now...it's like a little fluffy black blur!  Before he lays down to sleep, he cleans his little feets and snuggles under Mr. Bun Bun.   He feels allll the love you guys send, we have a happy jelly bean.

It's Thorsday!

Pics of a very active, very fussy little black kitteh.   I'm only satisfied when I'm either being snuggled or strolling across moms desk, tromping on the keyboard!

He POOOOPPEED!

Early this morning at 2 am.  It was a little thinner than I would have preferred but not full on diarrhea.  I had broken down and made literal sugar water, a 4/1 water/sugar mix and gave him about 2 ml's of that yesterday evening.  The teeny quarter teaspoon in his milk hadn't been enough to matter.  I didn't give him anymore this morning, a. because he turns his little black nose up at it and b. because I don't want to give him the runs.  I went back after he ate this morning and added half a tablespoon of pedialyte to his milk just make sure for later on. He's at the office today being safety kitty, a little miffed about being in his box again but he's snoozing so I only here a little peep when Honey and I talk too much.   I'm a tired but relieved mama this morning. Office kitty pics to follow later!

Vet Visit no. 2

Took the wee one in to see about treatment for either worms or possible blockage.  He was a little trooper and got snuggled in the waiting room.  He weighed in at 7.5 oz.  Doc took his temperature (not a happy kitty) and told me he's still too tiny and too underdeveloped to handle any kind of vaccination or medicine.  He didn't give him an enema for similar reasons:  too small, too much of a risk of causing the opposite effect and dehydrating him again.  Doc did take a look at the ick that was on the thermometer, seemed satisfied.  He didn't mention worms or parasites.  And the presence of ick on the thermometer is a good thing, it means no blockage up in his belly tract.   So advice for now:  Get a warm, wet cloth and rub him all over his belly and rear area.  Add a pinch of sugar to his diet so his body can do the job on it's own.  Home we went, a warm cat bath he got, and a belly full of freshlymixed milk with a pinch of sugar.   He went straight to sleep in his condo.   Today's candid is him in the truck snoozing on the way.  Moms big rumbly moving box kind of lulls him, he likes to ride around.

Thorsday came early

As per request, there is a new baby muffin video up.  I tore my director away from her *very important anime* and made her take kitten video!  (am I the only one who likes torturing teenagers?) Vet visit first thing in the morning.  He's doing well, eating, playing, and walking around but he's constipated again.  I don't want to keep home remedy-ing him at risk of making him sick.  He's so close to four full weeks anyway I want to see if he can get a preliminary shot or two or at least something to help boost his immune system.  His little feet and tail are all missing a fair amount of fur. One of the main reasons I believe they were premature, I would like the doc to let me know if it's going to be an issue later.  I noticed this evening after he ate that he's got the slightest bit of peach fuzz coming in on his little toes, his tail looks awful though.  So off we will go to relieve the tummy and see about some good meds.   Anywhoo, without further adieu, please forgive the product placement and my defrauding after workout cleavage and tattoos.

The 4th Sunday of Thor

Made it to 6.4 oz today! I've been adding bits of wet food fat/oil to his milk & he's eating 8 ml's at a time now. Still sleeping often but waking up & playing & purring more. We're going into his fourth week & I've noticed he can potty a bit on his own. I still stimulate just to make sure.  He's a total snuggle bug & loves to be cuddled up. He toddles around more so I made him a little condo.  I turned his box onside & left his heating pad in there. He's got some rug to explore & stroll around on. He's still so dark is hard to get good photos without using the flash which I try not to do. Thank goodness mommy has so many art supplies! Drawing pad walls yo! Sweet Little Thor with his sweet little face and that little licky tongue!!! Omg.

Growing Growing Growing

Growing by leaps & bounds. Weighed in early this morning at 5.1oz! We have officially doubled weight! He's about 20 days old and seems to be developing pretty well given his little bitty state.  He is awake for longer periods & likes when Honey rubs his little belly.  Walking & squeaking!

Toothless Thor Winchester

Introducing...... I got to looking at his little round face & the way hid little ears stick up.... he reminds me of Toothless the dragon from How to Train Your Dragon. We have him, Toothless Thor Winchester, Madame Princess Fluffypants, and... Texi.  (Yes I'm a Supernatural junkie) I had to go back and brighten every photo because he's just pitch black except for his white patch on his chest. He's outgrowing his bunny. A whopping 4.5 oz!

Chubby Little Thor

He gets all the milks & all the cuddles & my office when it's nap time. If I don't leave he whines until I cradle him.  I got a couple good photos after he ate today. Chubby little monster.

Kitten Video Debut

It's about 6 minutes, it was taken with my phone and I couldn't clip it down so there's a bit of dialogue, a bit of kitten, and some directors commentary.  Little Thor is so dark, and the lighting is so bad...he doesn't show up well on video   Please excuse my sewing/art room.   This is my first ever YouTube video.  I'm happy that it's my babies.

3 Week birthday

They grew!! I'm so happy! Little Thor weighed in today at 3.7oz & Little Hessie at 3.1oz. Two weeks ago they barely tipped the scale at 2.25. They're eating about 4-4.5 ml's per feeding & we've got open eyes & perky ears. They are little squirm worms with big purrs. I miss them when I go too long without a cuddle.  I had to make the half day trip yesterday to pick up my little hooman from the airport & was itching to snuggle my little marshmallows when I got home. (They've grown from jellybeans to marshmallows.)    Bunny is looking smaller next to them!

She's Got Bette Davis Eyes

Little Hessie's eyes are open!!! They started yesterday and they are fully open today. She's gained a couple tenths of an ounce & has fluffed out nicely. I got a pretty good pic without the flash.  Tried to take one of Little Thor but between squirms, helicopter paws & the fact that he's black as night.... well, you can see a blob with a mouth. Also.... I'm thinking Thor might be Thorina. The next few days will be the tell. I might have two little girls in my hands! And s/he's up to almost a full 3 ounces! 2.9 this morning!  The last pic is my husband's giant hand.... With babies.

Long weekend, Big appetite

The muffins did fine this weekend after their doc visit. Little Thor is eating much better, Little Hessie is trying. I've been subbing in half a milliliter of water here and there and it seems to make a difference.  Looking at pictures of new kittens online it stirs up wonders: were they abandoned immediately? Were they premature? Are they stunted? Having found them last Sunday they are definitely at least 9 days old today. Their eyes are still closed but their little ears have unfolded. And they move! Lawd have mercy do they move. Good thing they have a big box. Still very wobbly & still tiny, although I'm happy to report that Thor gained a few tenths of an ounce in the last day or so. Little Hessie is still about the same but she's not losing so I'm just keeping an eye on her.  Today's captive renditions are them just after the vet visit Saturday & this morning crawling up my husband's hand.

Babies Vet Visit

I took the muffins in this morning to see our family vet.  They hadn't gained any significant weight all week and I was worried. He said they were close to dehydration and gave them both some fluid.  They've been fed twice since the visit and ate a little better than they did yesterday. Dr. Lambert is an older fellow who still practices simply because he adores animals, honestly I don't know how he stays in business because he works with everyone who walks in the door. He told me to keep feeding them like I have been, with Pedialyte mixed into their formula. He also told me to feed them water to help combat the dehydration.  He was hopeful but honest given that I don't know the condition of their mother & what she may or may not have had going on. Please keep lifting them up & lighting candles for them.  The muffins and I appreciate ya'lls prayers.  New pictures coming soon.

Sleepy Beans

Sleepy little jellybean marshmallows. I gave them a stuffed bunny, it's not super fluffy but it's got some tuft to it.  They seem to like it

Jellybean Minions of Doom

The muffins are eating double what they were two days ago & their fur is starting to poof out. They're playing a bit more & like to be snuggled.  I have to wrap them in little kitten burritos so I can feed them. But Little Thor still wiggles like crazy but he attacks the syringe!

Apparently I am trying Bouldering on Saturday.  With the upper body strength of a flower, this can only end well... right?

Went to a writer's group meeting yesterday.  First time I've gone to this group's meetings.  Different from other groups I've participated in - this one was a series of prompts and exercises.  I was in a bit of a mood going in - Father's Day weekend for a recent widow is no laugh matter; several social/annoying things happened at Shabbat service in the morning, and one of our service leaders made a "somebody really should" statement of the writing variety and once I hear someone say "someone really should" I usually can't unsee the idea until I've had a try at it.  We did a word association map for one exercise, then wrote something based on part or all of the word map.  I picked a section of the map that had some references to knives and fancy dress balls to write from.  I'm pretty proud of what I wrote in 15 minutes but it's pretty clear that I was in a "mood."

The night of the long knives came and went as a plague on the first born of the land.  Men perfectly healthy went to bed only to be jerked from sleep with knives against their throats.  Here were the leaders of men, thrust against walls at the point of a stiletto, there the young men only following their orders, and over there again the family men who didn't exactly plan to pursue this path but perfectly content where they'd found themselves.  At the end of a blade, deep in the depression years, taking their payslips home at the end of the week feeling they'd done a good job, and a little extra for mother in the kitchen. The years of children, church, and kitchen. The good women. Most of them not owning a fancy pair of shoes or a party dress, for who had time?  The children needed their mothers at home, the men away at work.
The children of course, were not silent.  Soldiers burst into their homes, dragged their fathers out of bed.  Mothers clutching their husbands, children wailing for their papas. The ones who understood left quietly, reassuring the children on their way out - it's a special exercise, I couldn't know about it beforehand, otherwise I would have told you.  Hush child, I'll be home in a few days. They knew they'd be lucky to make it to the end of the block, of course, but let the children hope for a little bit longer, before all hope fell away and their eyes opened to the hatred their own fathers had taken part in.
Others didn't understand, resisted and fought against the soldiers who came into their homes.  They'd believed in the banners and flags, they'd stood and cheered, they'd enjoyed seeing fear cross the faces of those who understood.  Now they themselves fought back in fear. Fear of losing their lives for who could possibly know what comes next? Wagner wrote of Valhalla, their wives faithfully attended church; surely there was something to greet them when the heart stopped quivering, trying to pump blood flowing onto floors, and truck beds, and sidewalks.
