i want to thank @violynn that I needed Leif Garret circa 1970 something in my life.   No crushing on him even in the day, but I can appreciate great hair and a fun poppy cover of Runaround Sue. Leif is indeed on Spotify.  If you see a woman of a certain age singing along with him on her commute tomorrow...it's not me.  Way too dignified for thst.

Maudlin and sappy- Don't bother reading...I'm in a mood...

Something from Miss Manners' Guide to Rearing Perfect Children that's always stayed with me.  Just looked it up because I didn't want to bungle the quote above. Stuff I don't understand...

There are a lot of things I don't understand about the fundy mindset, but far and away the one thing I most want an answer to is how this belief system can override one of the most primal human instincts...to protect your child. You teach girls blind submission and you increase their risk of being victims of abuse by orders of magnitude...and who have no idea how strong and resourceful they can be even without an umbrella of protection. Striped Ice Cream...

I'm loving @Maggie Mae doing recaps of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and I've been thinking about the poverty depicted in the book.  It didn't really resonate with me as a kid, likely because in fantasy books it's easy to chalk everything up to exaggeration as things are never as bad, or as good, as they appear. Striped Ice Cream by Joan M Lexau was different for me.  I read that in second grade and four decades later I can still remember the emotional impact of that book.  As with all

That's butter lamb to us English speakers.  I admit I buy mine from the Polish market and my goal is to one year get it out of the package without breaking or swearing. If I really loved my family I'd hand craft this...but instead I'll just be impressed by those who do. Something seemed to have gone terribly awry in the life of this butter lamb...

Members of the Octopod family that won't cause carnage...

I made a comment in response to @Maggie Mae on my last post detailing some of the horrors of the giant squid.  Those who know me weren't surprised - I work those facts into a surprising number of conversations. But there are adorable members of the octopod family that would never eat you alive.  Let's meet them... Random Neural Firings...

Happy St. Patrick's Day

No interesting National Days today except for St. Paddy's Day and Corned Beef and Cabbage Day (someone was phoned that one in.) So here's a tip from this plastic paddy... Huge stock pot and cook your corned beef low and slow*.  Toward the end toss in the potatoes and when those are halfway done, the cabbage.  Flavors the veg from cooking in the same water and only have to wash one pot.   Or you could do this for di

I can't believe I blew my 100th post on Pebbles Flintstone when this is the real holiday today...
