About this blog

In my fairytale world all is perfect. Unfortunately they won't let me live there. So I dream about it (and then write about the stuff that is on my mind)

If it's syncopated rhythm...

Growing up I was only allowed to listen to 'wholesome Christian music'. It was a crazy rule really. One time I won a tape which wasn't by a Christian singer. My mother not only unwound it, but also cut the tape into pieces! Rules were rules you see. Except for one of my siblings, who was allowed to keep their The Real McCoy tape... I'm pretty sure that really didn't fit into Christian music, ymmv so I'll let you judge for yourself.   Listening to christian music wasn't all bad. I cou

A place in this world

For the second time in my life I have become blanket trained. It happened yesterday and I would just like to thank @WhatWouldJohnCrichtonDo? and @Palimpsest for helping finish off that job. I hope I never have to undergo it again.    In case you were wondering. Blanket training is not always bad   ETA: I would have thanked the person who helped the most, but I couldn't find an easier way to work that out without making a tally chart. Your blanket training of me did not

April Fools

I'm going to prank my neighbors this morning by washing my windows and shutters in summer clothing. It really isn't a prank because by now they should be used to me wearing what they class as "seasonally inappropriate" clothing, but you never know. I'm sure someone is bound to freak out. It wouldn't be the first time. A few years ago the neighbor a few houses down had the nerve to ask my bf why he didn't buy me a coat (I don't think Mr R-neighbor realized I understood what he was saying). Dude -

Spring is here. How do you think I know?

Yes! It is springtime, and it means garden time. Over the last few weeks I've been slowly spreading out the compost on the part of the garden we are using this year, and cleaning up a bit. Unfortunately my start-of-winter cleaning of the garden path didn't seem to help because it is covered in weeds again The weeds are flourishing too the grass has flowered already, which really sucks. So I still have to get stuff tidied up outside. But I have started sowing inside. yay! So far I hav

two a penny, hot cross buns

Umm so apparently I made 6kg( 13 pounds) of Easter bread. I say Easter bread because I got bored of shaping boring buns and decided bunnies are Easter too, and are a sign of integration. Originally I had planned to make two small bunnies. But you know how it goes Mr and Mrs Easter bunny get together and have 7 children or something like that. And the rest of the dough made 38 hot cross buns. The Easter Rabbit family: (photo alert) Buns! After two hours of baking(I'm meaning

one a penny

I’m a bit pissed because the last GOP debate was cancelled. I had it planned as my kneading entertainment. Now I have nothing, I’ll probably have to watch PP or something. That’s going to get me decently kneaded dough! When you start baking sometimes you read the recipe and see ‘soak overnight’ or ‘the night before…’. Well sometimes I decide that means ‘in the middle of the day’. I’m baking three recipes: A – Stout hot cross buns B – Milk infused hot cross buns C – Easy

Hot cross buns, hot cross buns

So, the day has finally arrived. I get to make my hot-cross buns. I'm a tad disorganized this year. Yesterday I made up my shopping list and worked out what I needed. Apparently I'm meant to use: upwards of 2kg flour 200g butter 5 eggs 600g dried fruit 250g mixed peel  plus a whole heap of other stuff like hot tea, stout, sugar and yeast.   I didn't have flour - not a big deal. Well it is and it isn't. I wanted bread specific flour, but without shitlo

Today they were playing "Heal the world" in the supermarket. Talk about flashbacks to when I was a kid and we did yearly music/singing collaboration concerts with the other local schools.  That was a song sung a few years in a row,at a time back when evil only existed in books and was far far far away. When the media  actually fact-checked and wrote quite dryly. Back before click-bait became a thing, and writing sensationalizing speculation wasn't a course for journalists. I miss that

Ladies, I wrote me a manual

What would happen if the Terms of Use on FJ were the 10 Commandments? Well it would end up a bit like this (but worded much better. God has not blessed me with the gift of the gab): Thou shalt not use FJ without first reading the rules Thou shalt have aged at least a minimum of 18 years Thou shalt be thyself, only thyself and not let anyone take over thyself Thou shalt not hate nor show hate symbols Thou shalt not steal identities nor information from your

Thanks to FJ I realized it is pi day today!!  In fact you guys let me know early enough that I actually made pie (unlike pancake day ) @Destiny - this one is for you, lemon meringue pie. It's not burnt it's just highly caramelized This one is pumpkin pie. And now I have my pavlova pie in the oven for the next hour or so. And because everyone needs a pi song:

You say that I misheard you But I think you misspoke

Every now and then my bf decides articulation is evil and shouldn't be done (That's my opinion, he might disagree). It can amusing at times.   Him: Down this street is where I had my first [mumble] job. Me: Your first blow job? [pause for thinking] Your first paid job? Him: Paint job. Painting for someone. Me: oh, that makes more sense Him: why the hell do you think I'd tell you about where my first blow job was? I'm not even sure if I know that.   Either

It is starting to look a lot like Easter

I'm getting just a little excited. It's nearly Easter!!!!!! No seriously, we are less than two weeks away from Hot Cross Bun Making Day. How can you not be excited? Just to be perfectly honestly I didn't realize how close Easter was until a few days ago. Now I have less than two weeks to get my baking supplies sorted. My favorite part of Easter is baking. Screw the chocolate milk made from hollow eggs, I want hot-cross buns. I introduced my bf to them a few years ago. He once said that me m

Who let the dogs out?

I love animals. I also like pets. We currently do not own any pets. I have had many pets in the past. We have a neighborly cat that I am trying to tame, which is one of about 10 cats I have seen in my garden in the last 4 months. While my BF would like a pet, I'm a bit more hesitant. I have a few things that need doing before we get any pets that will come inside: paint the rest of the inside of the house, get me allergy tested and create a good way of being able to fully shut off the kitch

You're not the boss of me now and you're not so big

When I was a child I had to refer to all older (25+ish upwards depending on how old I was) people as Miss, Mrs or Mr depending on their marital state and gender. Now I'm not that old yet. I mean I might have some gray hair, but that doesn't mean I'm ancient. I grew up in the period where(at least in my world) there was a movement to start calling people by the first names. Some schools started doing this: instead of the godly mentor being Mrs Alexander she would be called Mrs Lori. I, however,

Far away, far away in a foreign land

It has been over five years that I've been living in a foreign country. I've been home once in that time (and by home I mean to my home country and not to the house that I grew up in). In that time I have (among other things): learnt a new language worked crappy jobs because I couldn't get anything better been exploited in an illegal 'work' situation (because I was a foreigner and they deemed it ok) got a new degree struggled with bureaucracy been di

I have some basic needs when studying. One of my courses is basic financial accounting and balance sheets. I mean it's nice and all, I have a text book, I have an exercise book and some powerpoint slides. I read chapter one - which is a really brief and not so clear (I don't need 10000000 images, please just explain nicely!). I thought sweet I understand this. I went to the exercise book. We don't need no education, We don't need no thought control

Every now and then I do have to admit my mother did one good thing in my life. She did not home school me. OK, she really really wanted to with the ACE-curriculum but it cost too much and we had no money to afford it. Thankfully she couldn't get it all second hand from any church buddies so that idea was dropped and off to public school I went. I hated school for a long time. I'm not sure I ever enjoyed it but I'm forever thankful for some of the teachers I had: The one who even thou

Picking out a book, check it in, check it out. (version 2. FU firefox)

Once upon a time there was a girl who loved books. One day she discovered the magical invention called a library. She went there and lived in glorious bliss happily ever after. The END.   I'm an avid reader. There isn't much I won't read. I'm trying to encourage myself to actively branch out though in what I read. Genres that I tend to gravitate to are crime, thrillers, fantasy and historical fiction. Sometimes I binge read my way through an author/section of the library/genre other ti

i want to ride my bicycle, I want to ride my bike

Once upon a time there lived an avid biker. She liked to bike to church, to the grocers, to the butchers, to the market, to the town hall, to work and to play. She lived in a small town that had special bike paths everywhere that no one ever dared to park on. If  surfaces became uneven or holes needed to be dug, they were surely fixed by the next day. Never once did she feel in danger on her bike, never did she feel the need to dive into a ditch to avoid getting hit by a car. She loved biking an

You go back to school, it's a bad situation

I'm currently unemployed and finding it hard to get any sort of job (overeducated/language "problems"/not cool enough/born in wrong country/too motivated). I decided that instead of having a massive hole in my CV I would try and find some sort of course to do that would be either fun or useful. I managed to find a course that is business related and the bonus of being 100% distance learning (which will save me at least 3 hours a day). They marketed it as being designed and adapted specially
