About this blog

In my fairytale world all is perfect. Unfortunately they won't let me live there. So I dream about it (and then write about the stuff that is on my mind)

You're not the boss of me now and you're not so big

When I was a child I had to refer to all older (25+ish upwards depending on how old I was) people as Miss, Mrs or Mr depending on their marital state and gender. Now I'm not that old yet. I mean I might have some gray hair, but that doesn't mean I'm ancient. I grew up in the period where(at least in my world) there was a movement to start calling people by the first names. Some schools started doing this: instead of the godly mentor being Mrs Alexander she would be called Mrs Lori. I, however,

You say that I misheard you But I think you misspoke

Every now and then my bf decides articulation is evil and shouldn't be done (That's my opinion, he might disagree). It can amusing at times.   Him: Down this street is where I had my first [mumble] job. Me: Your first blow job? [pause for thinking] Your first paid job? Him: Paint job. Painting for someone. Me: oh, that makes more sense Him: why the hell do you think I'd tell you about where my first blow job was? I'm not even sure if I know that.   Either

You go back to school, it's a bad situation

I'm currently unemployed and finding it hard to get any sort of job (overeducated/language "problems"/not cool enough/born in wrong country/too motivated). I decided that instead of having a massive hole in my CV I would try and find some sort of course to do that would be either fun or useful. I managed to find a course that is business related and the bonus of being 100% distance learning (which will save me at least 3 hours a day). They marketed it as being designed and adapted specially

Who let the dogs out?

I love animals. I also like pets. We currently do not own any pets. I have had many pets in the past. We have a neighborly cat that I am trying to tame, which is one of about 10 cats I have seen in my garden in the last 4 months. While my BF would like a pet, I'm a bit more hesitant. I have a few things that need doing before we get any pets that will come inside: paint the rest of the inside of the house, get me allergy tested and create a good way of being able to fully shut off the kitch

When you know I can't love You love, love, love

This morning I got out of bed quite early (more than an hour before my alarm). It allowed me to go outside and do some gardening before it got too hot. I was planning to weed a bit, but that hasn't happened yet. There is a reason why. I'll give you a hint here, it relates to a 4 letter S-word. (I've put photos under spoilers so those who are grossed out don't have to look) So I was out early enough when the greenhouse was still a bit moist from the dew. Apparently that's the time tha

We don't need no education, We don't need no thought control

Every now and then I do have to admit my mother did one good thing in my life. She did not home school me. OK, she really really wanted to with the ACE-curriculum but it cost too much and we had no money to afford it. Thankfully she couldn't get it all second hand from any church buddies so that idea was dropped and off to public school I went. I hated school for a long time. I'm not sure I ever enjoyed it but I'm forever thankful for some of the teachers I had: The one who even thou

We are a special speck of dust

You know there are some great memes out there. Some apply to your life, and others don't. This is one of the ones I really wish did. I could have used it a fair few times. Instead I was the kid getting in trouble at school for telling others the truth: that Santa is a LIE! In my defense: I really didn't know any better. No one told me I should keep it a secret (I was never allowed to believe in such things). All I knew was that I had a memory verse that went something like ""Then you will k

two a penny, hot cross buns

Umm so apparently I made 6kg( 13 pounds) of Easter bread. I say Easter bread because I got bored of shaping boring buns and decided bunnies are Easter too, and are a sign of integration. Originally I had planned to make two small bunnies. But you know how it goes Mr and Mrs Easter bunny get together and have 7 children or something like that. And the rest of the dough made 38 hot cross buns. The Easter Rabbit family: (photo alert) Buns! After two hours of baking(I'm meaning

Those secret messages that spill into the air from far away

Happy   -- --- .-. ... .   -.-. --- -.. .   -.. .- -.--![Morse code day] If people wished to celebrate this properly they would ensure that all work communication today was written in Morse code. Thankfully someone created a nice converter so at least it wouldn't be too terrible. Of course if one did decide that having to communicate a whole day in Morse code was way too much, there is always this not-so-safe-for-work excuse if you are currently living in a snowy area.

They have their own role in ecology, Microorganism, microorganism, microscopic organism

Every now and then I like geeking out on weird stuff. Today's topic: soil science. I mean it has to be useful right? It can't make me much more garden-crunchy than I am. And at least I now I can claim "but it's scientific, I heard it from profs!" Cover crops are apparently awesome. Yay me! I do that. Or at least I try. Someone stole all my cover during the winter. So yeah, last year it didn't work. This year though! I have seeds, many seeds because COVER CROPS!!! (I use bee friendly ones

The horse, not the horseshit.

Actually this is about the horseshit. On Saturday I was gifted some horseshit. Not just a little bit but 4 or 5 trailers of the stuff. Before it came I had cleaned up the area it was going to, and then put some of the random concrete stuff found in that area next to the trees so they wouldn't get piled up with horseshit. My idea was to create a visual boundary of where the cleaned up area awaiting shit ended, but apparently that failed. I don't think the apple tree really appreciated waking

Sometimes I have to try really really really hard not to be a dicky smart-arse. Today is just one of those days. It really does make the 'New Page' button my best friend. It at least seems understands me, doesn't mind me poking at it a shitload, and has yet to tell me to bugger off. The awesomeness of its silence really is rather marvelous.   That said: I am hoping the tech crew get it sorted soon. Sometimes these sorts of tech problems can get really bad and and the error ou

Spring is here. How do you think I know?

Yes! It is springtime, and it means garden time. Over the last few weeks I've been slowly spreading out the compost on the part of the garden we are using this year, and cleaning up a bit. Unfortunately my start-of-winter cleaning of the garden path didn't seem to help because it is covered in weeds again The weeds are flourishing too the grass has flowered already, which really sucks. So I still have to get stuff tidied up outside. But I have started sowing inside. yay! So far I hav

Speaking foreign language, nothing I can translate

I have some basic needs when studying. One of my courses is basic financial accounting and balance sheets. I mean it's nice and all, I have a text book, I have an exercise book and some powerpoint slides. I read chapter one - which is a really brief and not so clear (I don't need 10000000 images, please just explain nicely!). I thought sweet I understand this. I went to the exercise book. sometimes it seems like we’re speaking in tongues

Many moons ago when I was a teenager, we went to a few different Pentecostal churches. Looking back it was quite interesting. They had quite different, yet similar views on spiritual gifts and things like that. It made for some interesting times. I did get quite a few free personality tests out of it. Apparently matching your MB profile to your spiritual gifts will let you enhance them and figure out just how to serve God in the best way possible. Church 1 believed that spiritual gifts are

Picking out a book, check it in, check it out. (version 2. FU firefox)

Once upon a time there was a girl who loved books. One day she discovered the magical invention called a library. She went there and lived in glorious bliss happily ever after. The END.   I'm an avid reader. There isn't much I won't read. I'm trying to encourage myself to actively branch out though in what I read. Genres that I tend to gravitate to are crime, thrillers, fantasy and historical fiction. Sometimes I binge read my way through an author/section of the library/genre other ti

one a penny

I’m a bit pissed because the last GOP debate was cancelled. I had it planned as my kneading entertainment. Now I have nothing, I’ll probably have to watch PP or something. That’s going to get me decently kneaded dough! When you start baking sometimes you read the recipe and see ‘soak overnight’ or ‘the night before…’. Well sometimes I decide that means ‘in the middle of the day’. I’m baking three recipes: A – Stout hot cross buns B – Milk infused hot cross buns C – Easy

Oh but you've overlooked just one item

Sometimes I overwork myself. Like that time I failed to read my course guide until today, and just found out I didn't even need to do half the 120 exercises that I did. In fact I don't even need to know over half the stuff I rediscovered. The sad part is: the really interesting stuff that is useful is the stuff not needed - what is up with that? How to change your text color from black to red? yeah - that is what I apparently needed to learn , oops, I learned that years ago. At least I should n

No Trespassing that's what it said At least that's what I could read

So I  wrote this a while ago. and certain circumstances recently have made me revisit it. I don't really think my garden should need rules. However over time I have discovered that without them some people are weird and do bad shit. My rules are based on real stuff that has happened in my garden in the last few years. *sigh* It is a bit of a forever growing list but here goes: It is never ok to spray Roundup in my garden it is not ok to do this without mentioning it

Mosquitoes come to suck your blood

Here's a thing to think about:   If you want to try and do your bit for the world and live a bit more aware of the ecological impact you have on the world, how far should you take it: Do you let slugs live in your garden to eat all your food? Do you kill mosquitoes that suck your blood? Do you let nits live in your hair, because if they make their home in it, that's where they want to live?   Do you take a milder stance and try to rehome them: Collect and

Ladies, I wrote me a manual

What would happen if the Terms of Use on FJ were the 10 Commandments? Well it would end up a bit like this (but worded much better. God has not blessed me with the gift of the gab): Thou shalt not use FJ without first reading the rules Thou shalt have aged at least a minimum of 18 years Thou shalt be thyself, only thyself and not let anyone take over thyself Thou shalt not hate nor show hate symbols Thou shalt not steal identities nor information from your

I do like numbers. And pretty graphs, ratios, and patterns. I half dislike having to manually gather all that stuff though, which does get me a bit sad sometimes. I mean seriously, why can't I have a stats panel that I can control so I can make pretty patterns out of my own stats? Just for kicks and giggles this is how I've spent my posting time on FJ. PM's aren't included because I have no desire to count them all So I noticed recently that I'm nearly up to a certain *leet* number of

Or so they say. It is starting to look a lot like Easter

I'm getting just a little excited. It's nearly Easter!!!!!! No seriously, we are less than two weeks away from Hot Cross Bun Making Day. How can you not be excited? Just to be perfectly honestly I didn't realize how close Easter was until a few days ago. Now I have less than two weeks to get my baking supplies sorted. My favorite part of Easter is baking. Screw the chocolate milk made from hollow eggs, I want hot-cross buns. I introduced my bf to them a few years ago. He once said that me m
