Pampered Pets & Toys!

Here's my latest from Pampered Pets. I love that book!  This is the page upon which my Copic Lipstick Red and a W&N ProMarker Cobalt Blue, both brand new, malfunctioned and spat excess ink onto the page. I whined loudly about this on my profile page in a status update.  I was asked to post both the original page with the ink blots and the edited version for comparison so this is the edited one and I'll post the one showing the ink blots on my profile page.  Thank goodness for photo editing!

Raise Your Glass

I'm finally coloring again! Today when I was out, I bought a new coloring book, Home Sweet Home, by Steve Duffendack.  I colored the page with gel pens. I'm a little disappointed in some of my color choices, but fuck it, I enjoyed the realizing quiet time.

Curious Owl Creatures

From my new Creative Haven book. Done with mostly metallic gel pens with a bit of neon thrown in. I decided to try adding a black background but had to get creative (no pun intended) when I started to run out of black partway through. All "black" is definitely not created equal. I was hoping the black would make the owls pop more but I think it ended up just making the picture look somewhat overwhelming. The metallic definitely does not photograph well. I took a bunch of pics but the colouring l

Curious Creatures with Mech Tree and Robots

Finally got to use my Winsor & Newton ProMarkers yesterday, only used them with this picture. I love them. There is a few patches on the pic and it isn't as smooth a finish as I had hoped for but I will have lots of fun practising with them. Ended up taking 7 photos and this was the best one of the lot, usual disclaimer, it looks much better and more vibrant in real life.

A Butterfly

There's not much to say, really.  I had a plan to use only shades of yellow, orange and brown, and I managed to stick to it.  It's nice enough, I think.  Not my best in terms of precision, though.  All W&N and Prisma markers, but too many shades to name. (And, now that I see it I don't like the photo quality at all!)

Ferris Wheel Fun!

This is my first page from Pampered Pets and I love this book!  Working on another page already.  Copic Sketch, Prismacolor brush tips, Winsor & Newton Promarkers, and Copic Ciaos.   Hope you like it!

Not pointing the finger at anyone, but......

I'll just leave this here shall I?   http://www.news.com.au/lifestyle/health/mind/the-300-per-cent-sale-growth-in-adult-pencils-and-colouring-books-has-created-a-global-shortage/news-story/e19d3e0e84f425bac0cd16c444e945fa

I found my little elephants' mum (or dad, not sure)!

This is my first non-disaster  from my new edition of Animal Kingdom.  I hadn't done this elephant in the original book, although the design is the same.  The stock is very nice and the markers don't bleed through onto the subsequent page.  I used minimal colours here: Prisma 'Canary Yellow' and Winsor and Newton 'Turquoise', China Blue', 'Lipstick Red' and, the delicious 'Mango'.  I also used a couple of fine line markers by Prisma, just for the really small details, so the shades differ a bit.

A Curious Barn with Mech Animals

It usually takes me a few days to finish a picture but I started this one this morning and was determined to get it finished. I used Staedtler triplus fineliners and Sharpies. It is not the best photo as the light was pretty bad here due to a overcast day but it was the best of a bunch I took.

Curious Quails...and a Hedgehog!

Finished this one the other day. Sorry for the less than great photo...took it inside and the light is not even.  From Curious Creatures, of course!  Copic Sketch & Prisma markers, Winsor & Newton Promarkers, and Staedtler fineliners.  Working on one from Pampered Pets right now!

Magical changing colors

In the grand "to color the background or to not color the background" debate, this time around my response was to color the background first. Actually I colored the whole damn picture in yellow before starting with the other colors. I did this yesterday and took the photo today. Before taking the photo I had to add in some more green because some of my greens had turned to beige-brown overnight. I don't know why, maybe it was the reaction with the yellow background?

Curious Creatures

I just picked this book up yesterday. I love it! I decided to try and figure out how to use these alcohol markers and experimented a bit with blending. It's a bit of a learning curve for me. While I like this picture better before I tried the blending I am delighted with the way they blended and see their potential!

Owls

I went out and got some markers for myself this past week. I didn't want to spend the money, so I got some cheaper alternative to the Copic markers. I got a set of primary colors which are Copic ciao, Artist's Loft which are Michaels brand, and some Spectrum Noir. Here are my results!

'Tropical World' elephants (with background, of course)

I liked this picture a lot. But, as usual, I decided to do the background, this time in black.  Black markers (Prismacolour in this case) are difficult little buggers.  It is almost impossible to stay in the lines and, when one goes over there is zero forgiveness.  Upshot is that I love it from a distance but it looks like crap up close. Give me your thoughts, please. My sensitive days on FJ are, I think, largely behind me, so I'm up for critiques.  (It looked great before and I seriously don't

To background or not to background? That is the question.

This is my most recent page. I do like this one quite a lot.   I seem to have difficulty leaving backgrounds white.  Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. But there's no going back, regardless, right?   Here's a side-by-side of before and after (I think both are really pretty): Here's another recent one.  I don't like the final page, I should have chosen a different colour for the centre I think. And, lastly, I posted this one in January I think, and it is

My first mandala

Finally took on the challenge of a mandala, I made a big mistake but managed to cover it up quite well but I don't recommend using tip-ex with gel pens lol! The gel pens were a cheap set I got at B&M. It took me 5 days to do this as my hands have been really sore for the last week so I only done a wee bit at a time, I'm feeling quite chuffed with myself for getting it done.

Two Travelling Cats!

Here's my latest...finally got it completed.  I really like the way it turned out and think it's one of my favorites.  Everyone probably knows that this one is from the Creative Cats book by Creative Haven.     Colored with Prismacolor & Copic Sketch markers, Winsor & Newton ProMarkers, and Staedtler triplus fineliners.   I just received a new coloring book called Fantastic Animals and am trying to decide what the next project will be.

Dreaming kitty

I managed to finish another kitty page from the "Cats" book by Mesdmoiselles. As usual, the model had to pose next to it (and sit on the book by the same occasion, which is one of his favourite things to do :)).

Mr. F. did a colour! And I'm pissed!

He's a better cook.  He's a better golfer.  And now he's a better colourist, too!  And this is his first effort! He has a more relaxed attitude than I do with regards to staying inside the lines.  (Case in point, I am currently employing a fucking magnifying glass in a futile attempt to achieve perfection. I mean, mine just looks so anal!) His style suits this picture, though, as this artist is annoyingly negligent about actually defining outlines!  I find this book (Fantastic Cities) a bit of a
